Is it even possible to build one? I noted that both need class Hide II and class Move Silently II.

It's certainly possible to build one after Mod9 (Rogue12/Ranger6) but you can't use the assassinate ability with ranged weapons.

It is NOT possible. The reason is that taking Rogue Hide 1 will prevent you from taking Ranger Hide 1 (and vice versa) (just as Bard Charisma 1 and Sorc. charisma 1 are mutually exclusive). This means you will not be able to have the prereqs for both at the same time. Not to mention the fact that you cannot assasinate from ranged as someone else pointed out.

I believe that a Dev posted somewhere that it was supposed to work with either.
Although that is probably not fixed either.
