So... normallly I build as I go. Have a concept and the build at levels. Right now my fav toon to play (other than my Warchanter...) is my "Fighter-Thief" Build. I won't go into ALL the details...as I'd have to log in to get them...but he's capped at 8/8, is GTWF Kopesh build with a 30 STR and a 28 Dex.
Here's the dilema.... when I started him, he was going to be a pure 2.5 Fighter-Thief, however... with the PrE's available... most notably level 12 Acrobat II for Knockdown immunity... as well as Maxing UMD and Rogue Skills...or... Level 12 Kensai II with the Power Surge.
Right now I have a UMD of 32 (Skill Boost and Heroism Pot/34 with GH scroll) I have his Necklace crafted... put still have to Upgrade it for the CHA Skills and Haste Clickies
I can find and Disable every trap In Game... except Cabal on Elite.
So... is the Acrobat and extra UMD/Rogue SKills worth more than the Kensai Power Surge?
*edit* His Role is Mob killing Off-Tank wielding Min II and Radiance II as main weapons.
Thanks

This is such a hard question because so much depends on what you want - what you like doing.
Kensai - very clear, very brute force - the boost & specialization adds up to a significant DPS boost.
Rogue: Acrobat - I'm being specific. Add in a Radiance 2 Rapier with Immunity to Knockdown and you've got a DPS machine. You're strength based (or roughly equal) so you don't really have any disadvantages fighting non-sneak attack eligible targets.
To me, the Rogue option provides more depth. Kensai provides more focus.
ack, see your edit now and totally missed you already had a Min2 & Rad2 so you already know and how you self-describe as an off tank. Is that just because you need sneak attack?
I remember when I picked up a rad2 on one of my rogues - I went from having to be careful and using skills to avoid aggro to front line against sneak attack eligible targets with a single item. Crippling Strike is a huge bonus since it occurs on any sneak attack (unless that's a bug)

Off Tank because I'm Squishy.... REAL Squishy. But I'm not a Glory hound...The Build is based off 2.0/2.5 BG/BGII rules. Can't quite UMD a Heal Scroll (no fail) yet, but If I go 12 Rogue w/Acrobat II, that shouldn't be a problem.
The idea is to be an extremely Versatile Fighter. Do everything possible.... and then some more.

If you take the next 4 levels in Fighter to get to Kensai II, you wont be able to keep your rogue skills up and will fall into a boatload of annoyingness. You will be too short on skillpoints.
So if you want to keep up with your roguish ways you will and as a 12 Rogue / 8 Fighter. Which not a split to snear at.

That's what I'm afraid of... nothing worse than a Rogue type...that can't "Rogue"...
Thanks for your help guys. Will probably go Rogue out to 12, take Acrobat II, and Max the Skill points... AND the Crippling Strike.

I was thinking of going Fighter /Thief as well. Was thinking of the thief skills more for tinkering type, being able to open locks and disable traps and such. Not so much for the combat.
Is this something that is even worth the effort? Looking at it for more of an RP effort than min/max.

Absolutly!
Start with a moderate INT, 14 pre-racial modifier, and you will be good to be a tinkerer who can deal with traps, along with full fighter power.
Important: Start with your 1st level as Rogue, or you will loose a whole bunch of skillpoints!
If you take every 2nd or 3rd level as Rogue you will be fine dealing with traps, and have the nice sneak attack boni as well.
Keep Spot, Search, Disable Device, Open Locks as well as the all time favorite Use Magic Device maxed out. Spend the rest where you like, good candidates being Haggle, Jump and Balance.
