Okay so I've decided continue playing this str based tempest ranger/ftr/barb 11/4/1 build. I'm not sure on the benefits of going 12/4/4 or 15/4/1. Basically is it worth going 15 in Ranger for the fav enemy and 4 lv spell or should I go Barb to 4th for additional Rage enhancements and con.

Please advise oh wise people!

Thx

I decided to delete my 11 ranger 4 fighter 1 barbarian. If I would have kept it I would have gone 12 ranger 6 fighter 2 barbarian. The second best option in my opinion was 15 ranger 4 fighter 1 barbarian.

Edit: reason for 12 ranger 6 fighter 2 barbarian was kensai 1 enhancement.

I deleted mine.... thats what I say you do. On the bright side you get +2 to hit from the pathfinder set:rolleyes: If you cant bring yourself to kensai 1 might be the way to go.

I´d go 12 ranger / 6 fighter / 2 barbarian.

Get access to Kensai I.

No need to reroll. This kind of build is still a very good fighter. Not just the über-flavor ofthe month anymore.

I compared a 12 fighter 6 ranger 2 rogue to a 12 ranger 6 fighter 2 barbarian and a 18 ranger 2 something else. The biggest advantages for the 12 ranger build was it had the most potential hit points(about 30-40 more then the fighter build or 50+ more then close to pure ranger) of the three builds and barbarian run speed. The biggest disadvantages is it had the lowest dps of the three builds and it lacked in utility in comparison (the rogue build had umd and lock pick, the close to pure ranger had more spell points/spells and could splash the other two levels with whatever it wanted giving it more ac or umd or lock pick skills or perhaps even barbarian run speed).

I agree. You'll pick up Tempest II and Kesai I. You should still be a pretty tough melee character.

My math must be wrong or else you've invented yet another form of new math....

12*10+6*8+2*6=180 while 12*8+6*10+2*12=140 --> that is, 12 ranger gives 40 hp less than 12 fighter.

OTOH, 12 ranger should give better DPS with the TWF line (although, depending on DEX it should be possible for any of the builds to go the whole TWF route -- it is just easier for a ranger because there is no DEX requirement).

With respect to AC, 18R/2M should give the best possible of the 3 builds you "compared".

I suspect the real issue in your "comparison" is that the base stats differed. The problem there is that it isn't a true comparison because you change the start point. If you do that then any build will come out "better" depending on just what it is you want it to be "better" at.

However, on face value, your "comparison" makes no sense at all.

Yeah your math is wrong for the hit points for the following reasons. Dex is basically a dump stat for the 12 ranger because it does not need it to qualify for twf so it has a higher average con score then the fighter. It gets +1 to con enhancement for the 2 barbarian levels and it also has barbarian rages that will last about 4-5 min between shrines which add more con. Oh and it is only short 1-2 toughness enhancements.

I suspect that somebody is bitter about their build being gimped. Dps will be less for the 12 ranger build which is a fact anyway you choose to calculate it. Max strength for all three builds of course.
