the information drought this week makes me think they are in major crunch mode. which sucks, hear me out.

imagine working 16 hour days and then logging back in the very next day to work on the same stupid lag bug that you can't even reliably recreate or find a root cause for, but in addition to that you have your manager breathing down your neck because there are 10 other launch-critical bugs on your plate in addition to whatever trash you think you may be able to put off until mod 9.1.

tolero comes over to your cubicle every other hour and is all like, are we there yet? are we there yet? your fellow developers are ****ed because you're pushing patches that are breaking their stuff and backlogging their bugs, your wife is mad at you because you haven't been home this week, you stink like a sewer and you think you're starting to see things

and then you got the forums, which you should probably look at except they want your head on a plate. you don't even wanna get near those

so guys, have some courtesy, have some sympathy have some taste; these guys are (hopefully) busting their asses :)

I have often wondered about their development cycle and how it works. I would expect the Q/A folks to be all over Mod 9 and the primary focus of the devs to be on Mod 10 and the primary focus of the executives on beyond Mod 10. But, perhaps Turbine doesn't have the staff to handle that sort of process so everyone gets locked into helping on the current problem de jour.

Probably all hiding away in their cubicules....pushing Tarrant out to the forums to find out what's going on. He always gets the dirty work. :P

Q/A folks

Turbine has no QA folks that work on DDO. I know this for a fact. But of course none of you will ever believe me.

It's Friday...everyone called it a day, after a 2 hour lunch, and hit the bars early =D

No happy hour in the home base/state for Turbine sadly these days. Happy hours joined the dodo birds many many years back....too many people got too happy:eek:

there are however a ton of things on lamannia which we were asked for feedback on. Some of that feedback was critical of the current implementations (and many of those might only involve a change to a multiplier table, not core code to tweak), but some of them are pretty nasty and I am sure require some core coding tweaks to fix or undo.

Item compare for example is horribly borked with no way to shut it off in the current build.

Active/passive targeting has numerous issues as well and seriously needs some ability to tune it to individual perference. Imagine running Threnal and everytime your mouse moved over Coyle you started up a dialog window in the middle of your screen and your mouse is now over the 5 page/click dialog....it gets ugly.

and so on...

Yah. True. But...
At the risk of being labelled a DEV stalker ... here goes a summary of this week's activities.

We have hardly heard a peep out of T n T. (Tolero and Tarrant). Tarrant gave us one "cheeky" remark (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2172315&postcount=3)this week, which I thought was in poor form under the current circumstances, but I am glad some had a bit of fun with it. Tolero made one only post (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2172444&postcount=2)that I can tell, to have a bit of fun with the fun that some had with Tarrant's comment, but it was under the radar (off of the dev tracker). Only one developer, Keeper had a few minutes to have a little fun talking about "spas" and "fountains". (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2169530&postcount=10)Tolero was obviously on the forums, because her usually interesting and informative signature only references a spa video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsHsxvx2XyI)that was commented on by Keeper in her contributions to the forums this week. Otherwise, her usually informative siggie is quite dull.

Why... even puddin' face itself (The big Green "you wouldn't like me when I am angry" blob of thread-devouring uberness) has not made an appearance that I know of.

Now, as far as I know, Keeper does landscapes, so maybe she is not as impacted by the Llamannia bugs. As far as I know, T n T aren't coding and debugging. So, we can't explain their absence in that. I know they have other tasks besides interfacing with us (the "Community"), but last I checked, their forums tags still slate them as "DDO Community Specialist" and "DDO Community Team." Thus, interfacing with us is a big part of their gig. I know when we get whiney, we are not all that interesting to interface with, but who knows why we are getting the silent treatment.

In any case, where are they? What are they doing now? I am beginning to wonder if a rescue party is in order???

Dex was here.

Hope they did not have Mexican vacations recently....cough cough...

you know what the VP said about hanging around with "sick" people in confined spaces like office cubes...

Of course not sure the typical "sickness/afflications" of a D&D geek are contagious....

If you've played on lamannia - I bet the Dev's are breaking a sweat every day fixing everything that isn't broken and making the interface uglier... then they sit around and talk about how much fun the abbot raid is to beat... then they play Coal Chamber for fun... then they finish up a day of hard work by playing lotro.
