Hypothetically speaking, if you make a pally and 3 levels in decide you want to splash ranger for 2 levels to get twf, do you still get the feat even if you dont have the minimum stat requirement?
Twf requires min 15 dex but the pally only has a 12, when he gets to the second level of ranger does he get the feat just because hes a ranger? Or does it simply not function? What happens?
A guildie hit me with this yesterday and I cant find the answer.
Im trying to see if what hes thinking is even possible.
Thanks!

Yes, rangers get the combat style feats whether or not they meet the pre-reqs.

Ranger bonus feats (Two Weapon Fighting, Many Shot, Precise Shot, etc.) do not require you to have the prerequisites.

If i'm not mistaking, I think they are they only class they don't need the dex requirements for them. Keep in mind at level 16 you will be getting 83 attacks with your main hand and only 33 attacks with your offhand if you keep it at just TWF.

That is going to really be bad for DPS.

Improved you get 50 attacks
Greater Two Weapon Fighting, you get all 83 attacks.

My first toon had just TWF, I was way behind everyone else in the DPS. I ended up converting him to a Two Handed Greataxe Fighter (much better damage then just TWO)

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I'm also going to suggest that it's a mistake. Ranger/Paladin is a good combination, but you need to plan out the stats ahead of time. If you want to drop Dex, you need to take at least 11 levels of ranger to get GTWF. 12 is probably the best breakpoint. Otherwise, you have to find a way to get a permanent 17 Dex for ITWF and GTWF. You can use the granted feats to buy time to aquire a tome though.

I would suggest that Ranger has 5 real breakpoints for multiclassing with Paladin. # 1 is level 2, you get more skill points and a free TWF feats. You will need 17 dex though.

#2 is 4. 4 gives you the above benefits, but also Diehard and Ram's Might. But if you go this far, you should probably just go to 6 .

#3 is 6. You get a 6 min Ram's Might, ITWF and Diehard. Just make sure you can reach 17 Dex. This also leves open the options of Paladin 14/Ranger 6 or Paladin 12/Ranger 6/ X 2.

#4 is 9. Level 9 gives you Evasion, which combines nicely with Paladin saves.

#5 is 12. That gives you all of the above and GTWF. This build can drop Dex and concentrate almost entirely of Str. ( Though Con and Chr are also important.

Two last words of advice-- always take the class with the most skillpoints first. So for a Ranger/Paladin, start as a Ranger. In fact. unless you plan to take rogue as well, Ranger is the class you want to take first. Also, make sure that you can Reach 17 Dex if you take less than 11 levels of Ranger. And finally, make sure you can reach 13 Dex. That's a requirement for Dodge, which is required for Tempest.
