I believe it depends on whether you opened it or not. If it's never opened I'm pretty sure it gets returned. I did this once with a character I was rerolling with the same name. I actually got the items returned immedietly but the system may not work this way anymore. This was when the mail system first came out.

ok ty, but im going to play it safe and get out of korthos, mail the items back myself, then reroll. dont want lose lose a +2 tome :p

I just did this recently. Mail went right back to the sender with the subject saying something like "This player does not exist any more."

Unopened mail goes back to sender and opened mail disappears.

I mail minor stuff to random low characters that look like they might be new players. I know that +3 Full plate was something very cool when I first started. A +2 heavy Mithril shield, I find way too many of those, off they go.

I only mail to toons that are not in a guild, sometimes the mail comes back to me. The character was deleted. Most of the time, I get a thank you.
