View Full Version : Named Loot from a RAID that is pointless and why

For me, the Ruby Encrusted Gauntlets from the Dragon Raid. If they might have had 3 per rest, they might have been okay.

I pulled these on one of my Dragon Raids on my first character.

I thought "Cool, I can cast a 15th level spell and do some damage."

Why do the gauntlets stink?

1. Slow Cast time, by the time it comes off, the fight is over or the target moved.
2. 1 Cast per rest.
3. If you cast on a mob, you are now the primary target of a mob.
4. if you cast during a small DPS battle, the battle is over before the flame strike hits and your quest mates get to hear a nice flame strike that does nothing.
5. When you cast on a target that is coming at you, it dodges it on about 99.9% success rate.

Only time it was good was on the archers and gnolls that cannot move from their locations in a few quests or slayer areas. It did not kill them, just annoyed them.

But at one shot per rest made it very expendable and after about one month of carrying the item, I decided, I need that inventory slot so I can grab stuff and sell it.

Any other truly unawesome items?

The Battle Coin from Titan is second on my list. BUt that had 3 per rest on some sort of wacky timer.

There is a ton of raid stuff in the game now that is ****. Pretty much everything from the dragon except the helm (+6 wis) and Sword of Shadows are now worthless.

I know a few who covet the delving stuff, but thats even **** these days.

More than half of the Titan and DQ raid loot now also fall into this category.

It's time to update the loot tables with some new, more uber stuff!

The belt isn't bad, especially for a WF. +6 Str and Moderate Fort (Heavy for a WF) all available at level 9 or 10. The gauntlets were always pretty useless. Most of the other stuff was pretty good for the time, but time goes on and the cap goes up. Of courese dome of the stuff will become outdated.

I hope that the devs look at what has remained popular, what was popular but no longer is and what was never popular in the first place. Then give us updates on those those that were popular, or at least new items with the same properties but improved and in different combinations.

The single best thing they can do for raid loot in mod9 is add a ring of Dodge +3 w/ better mods than the Chattering ring, or at least other ones (spot is actually really nice).

Enslaving every ac build to one quest the way that the Chattering does rather blows and is a big reason I don't want to start a 2nd ac build (though I run the titan enough as it is ..)

Actually, I'd prefer to see them add a hard limit of +5 or so to the amount of Dodge bonus that can be gained through items and then spread the locations around. I think giving the Rainments a +4 bonus, then limiting Dragontouched to +3, which doesn't stack with the Chattering Ring is a mistake. Raid Armor with a +4 dodge bonus is another option, but I like the cap better.

Give varying amounts of Dodge bonus on different items in different slots and mix and match as you want to get to the cap. Robe wearers should not have a +4 advantage in Dodge bonuses over any character wearing armor.

ruby gauntlet can break doors if your character does not have the strength. I used it in titan a lot till I got around to finding a method to increased my strength more.

Dunno if they're the most overpowered. But I'll say they're the most underrated.

I wouldn't say every item, but many of the named raid items were some of the best at the time the raid came out. Obviously as more raids came out and the level cap was increased the major items to get from these raids weren't so sought after.

The gauntlets seem silly today but when they first came out, it was a clicky of a spell that I do not believe was in game yet. IT had alot of appeal at the time as well as the fact that you could only get two raid items per run and no there was no 20 run list back then so people were proud to get them back in the day :P

I think that the Kunderak Delving boots are also one of the most unappreciated too. Considering that Freedom of Movement makes it so that you can not be webbed, held tripped, danced, greased) I think that is one nice benefit to say the least. I am shocked that more people do not wear them now.

Flame Strike was always available. I had a character that received the gauntlets back when the cap was level 10. I recall using it once and then putting it in the bank. Basically, it wasn't much use even then.

However, the Kundarak Delving boots are unique in that they're not dispellable (except probably by Mordenkainen's Disjunction, soon).

Hmmm.... Delving boots..... Irreplaceble... Undispellable freedom of movement... well until disjunction hits... But nevertheless.. Still a much sought after item...... :D
