Hey all I am a new player to DDO and have a few quick (or maybe not so quick) questions.

1. How viable is soloing in this game? My play times vary so it's hard to be on the same times as the few people I know in game so I solo a lot. But it seems painfully slow currently. I am sure I am doing all the wrong things as I can't imagine they would punish the solo player this hard.

2. If soloing is doable what class/build works best? I am totally open to any class that works well.

3. Is there a solo build that will still be decent in the occasional group I get in?

Thanks in advance to any help you guys can offer.

DDO wasn't really built around solo play, though the devs have spent a lot of energy adding solo-friendly features in the past 3 or 4 mods.

Some of the features they've added are the "solo" difficulty, explorer areas, and hirelings. That being said, it is harder to progress quickly in this game if you are a solo player unless you are very familiar with the quests and/or can twink your character.

I solo quite a bit, and my favorite toon for these purposes is my lvl 16 WF sorc. Unfortunately, WF Sorcs are not the easiest toons to start out with.

For low-level play I would recommend running a cleric. They're ability to self-heal is extremely handy. They can wear heavy armor and cary a shield and at low level are capable of meleeing creatures fairly well due to their decent BAB progression.

Also, as a cleric, you'll have very little trouble getting into a group.

My quick $0.02

Thanks for the response man. That sounds good to me, is there a particular build you recommend? If not I'm sure I can find something that will do on the forums somewhere.

What server are you on?

There's pretty much always parties to be had all the time on Khyber; we're pug friendly :).
