I just got finished in the Tangleroot slayer area where I've been attempting to take down the named Troglodyte Shaman for the umpteenth time with my rogue. Every time he pops, he moves just far enough forward that he's camped in the deep water, where a player gets forced into swim mode and can't hit him, but of course he can blaze away like a champ.

Come on, devs. It's a small room with no cover, he's got unlimited SP, two minions as fodder, you can't sneak in, you're at a level where 10 elemental resistance is likely all you have ... at least let the player hit the bugger. He's bloody tough enough without having to rig his script so that he moves to an area that makes melee characters useless.

Here's a thought ... how about if the mobs get forced into swim mode, too? Fair is fair. If the water is too deep to fight, it's too deep to fight.

I got so frustrated after three attempts that I just quit. I'll come back some time next week when I've cooled off.

Use a ranged weapon till he moves out of the deep water - keep moving to avoid his spells.

And his minions? By the time I wipe the minions, I'm **** near dead because he's sporked off a couple of lightning bolts already while I'm tied up.

Jump back into the water tunnel, swim back to where he cannot get to you, and heal up. You can use healing potions underwater. Heck, you can even recall back to the tavern to heal up - and so long as you are not in there for five minutes - the zone won't reset and any damage done to the Trog will still be there when you get back.

It's cheesy - but I don't have a problem fighting a cheesy mob tactic that the Devs won't fix (they can fight in deep water - we cannot) with a cheesy tactic of my own.

tangleroot slayer area, there is the problem.
But it is fun and challenging the first time though, just makes it better.
I think it was designed for more than one player, like 4 or more I think, of an appropriate level.

So, maybe you are pretty good to get that far with him.

I find that going to the back of the cave you can sometimes corner him as he will follow. It's not foolproof, but it is the best way I can get him on a non ranged character.

But yea, he's a pain in the butt.

He's one of the hardest encounters for that level because of these reasons. I normally just avoid him until I'm higher level

Yes, I have died on him also on my squishies. Sometimes you die and your stone drops to the bottom.

Go in with some resistances and SHIELD

My strategy

The swim hole, you go behind it not towards him, forcing him to come to you. Get your whacks in and DIVE! DIVE! DIVE!

Heal up go back in.

Sounds like a good a time as any to remind the Devs that it's about time they implement some underwater combat rules!
