View Full Version : Eladrin - Thief: Acrobat Questions

A couple quickies for you if you have the time...

1. Since quarterstaves can be made of wood or metal (I have seen Type:Wood & Type:Steel in the descritpion) is there a reason we don't see any of the metal types being produced on staves?

Ie. No silver, adamantine, flametouched iron, etc. We should be seeing holy cold iron staves, adamantine staves. etc.

Is this something that can be looked into modifing in the loot tables perhaps?

Since with the changes to transmuting, now Acrobat Rouges only have 2 possible weapons that will bypass boss dr from mod 6 on... Transmuting of Pure good/Mineral II. It is literally the ONLY choices. Since we cant get a SILVER Holy Staff...etc.

2. Are there currently any plans to make more slashing/piercing type staves in the flavor of the shining cresents? Once again now since the changes to transmuting we can no longer bypass slashing Dr... although spear tipped staves would be a fantastic addition for monks and acrobats.

3. I know they are not slated for mod 9 but is there any chance that we can get the "unofficial" versions of Thief: Acrobat III so that we can build accordingly now that the level cap is going up?

TIA

Yeah, I always thought you could get 'shod' quarterstaves...basically little metal caps on the end...like this iron-shod quarterstaff:

Im interested to know the answers as well.

problem is eladrin does monsters I believe. dont think he does combat so he might not see this unless the lazy dev who's assigned to this part of the forum(interest-wise) brings it to his attention.

Coulda sworn I have seen him comment in the combat section before... hmmm

he's commented in many other sections too, as have other devs, but my point is that they are more likely to see a post directed at them if:

1) the post is in the section of the forums that pertains to their expertise

2) people like tolero brings that post to their attention

3) enough people start flaming in the post. (sad but face it, we've seen more RESPONSES from devs that way regardless of how much they read)

Can we please get a little hint about what we might need for acrobat iii as Mod 9 makes respeccing feats (if any are needed) much rougher. Thank you.

I'll add my name to the list of curious people. I love quarterstaffs, and it would be great if they could be made of the "special" metals.

Even how the staff mechanic will shake out will be huge to builds. Any tips would be useful Devs:P.

I have a 14 rogue/1 ftr/ 1 monk and i love qstaffs, but I too would like to know about Thief-Acrobat III.

Also any chance of more cool named qstaffs. Dreamsplitter is awesome, but most named qstaffs are for spell casters.

Totally unrelated, but will 'Holy Aura' spell ever get fixed and have a chance to actually 'blind' the enemy as the description says.. this spell has never worked.

I see no reason why we couldn't have shod staves of alternate material types.

2. Are there currently any plans to make more slashing/piercing type staves in the flavor of the shining cresents? Once again now since the changes to transmuting we can no longer bypass slashing Dr... although spear tipped staves would be a fantastic addition for monks and acrobats.
I'm sure that "curious weapons" will make an appearance at times.

Thank you, Eladrin, for finally chiming in on this, at least now we know that TA III will be coming down the road at some point, even if you don't have a preview for us yet.

And....

since monk weapons are not being added to the game - staves really should be made finessable if they are going to stay "One staff to fit all types".

There are a number of slightly smaller much faster/finessable staves in the books....

Also - how about adding a way to add the staff to both weapon hands like a two weapon style? So you create a two weapon set, add the staff to both, and when you equip it it uses two weapon fighting instead of a two handed weapon mechanic.

"I'm sure that "curious weapons" will make an appearance at times."...really? Spears are a 'curious' weapon?

Spears are one of the most basic, primal types of weapons reaching back tens of thousands of years....'curious'? And a heavy pick that is two handed...because no miner before today has ever thought of making the weapon to break rocks and armor just a little bit bigger and heavier? (And as long as only one type of spear is added, it should also be finessable - to take into account monk styles with lighter spear types)

Seriously, players have been begging for more weapon types for 3 years. We still dont even have a halberd or spear after 1000 posts begging for it. No one cares if the animation is the same, they just want to be able to use it, and not as a 'only one in the game because its raid loot' - but added to the tables as a general weapon.

Excellent, thanks... hopefully sooner rather than later, in time for mod 9 maybe? n I would love a +5 holy burst silver quarterstaff of PG for example.... wanna just pop that in my inventory :).

Excellent, a piercing staff would be fairly useful for a few situations... call it spear of the "xxx" can't wait to see what you guys cook up.

No preview for that one yet, sorry. :)

What if I beg??? (sneaks a 6 pack under the table)

small finessable staves, usable by monk?

Nunchuku or nunchuka of course ;)

Would'nt be acceptable though since it'd need a whole new animation sequence just for itself. I'm sure people would much rather see 1-handed or 2-handed piercing animation sequence a long time before a special one like a nunchuk.

I'm still waiting for the diremace, double-sword, diremaul, double scimitar (that use the quarterstaff combat animation)- will we ever see them? :)

A one handed 'staff' would in fact be some type of 'club', or 'stick'.

Yeah a nunchaku animation would be cool, but in the end the vast majority of people just want new weapons added, and dont really care about the animation (proven my your last sentace 'using the staff animation I want a new weapon added')

If the animation is in fact the barrier to adding new weapons as opposed to say - apathy.
