View Full Version : Developers regarding Clerics - wheres the love? Mass harm?

So we are getting 5 new level 9 spells?
Where is the cleric love? Is mass Harm not being included? I remember Eladrin saying that everyone would be getting 'new' stuff this mod. The melees, like previous mods, get enhancement lines. We were getting new spells... WHERES THE NEW SPELLS!!!
All of these are simple replications of existing spells!. Implosions like slay living centred on yourself. The Mass heal is obvious. Energy drain - heeeelllllooooo enervate? Res - bleh. Summon - junk. So we are going up four levels and seeing...what exactly? The level 8 spell list is weak too.
Our top tier spell lists are extremely lacking. Please give us some more options.
Level 9
Mass Heal - Nice
Implosion - Unsure yet will have to see how it acually works.
Energy Drain - Very Nice
Summon 9 - Junk
True Res. - Meh.
So pretty much all lvl 20 clerics will have exactly the same spells... i.e drop the useless summon line.
Level 8
Death Pact - Nice
Holy Aura - Love this spell.
Cure Mass - No thanks not spending 3 item slots getting this.
Inflict Mass - Love this line but just without potency 8s.
Firestorm - Junk. No Potency, no enhancements - useless.
Summon - As with all summoned spells - Junk.
Symbol of death - Bats in vod, kobolds in water works. Otherwise useless.

Oh yeah cleric divine might?
The Single Most Useless enhancement line ever introduced. How do you expect a cleric that can actually hit things (str), take a beating (con), have decent dc's(wis) manage to hit a 20 BASE cha.

For 36 point characters it will be easy. Didn't anybody tell you that the next favor award at 3500 are 36 point characters?

U have a warped sense of humor matty:D. Im not complaining about most of the changes, in fact i agree with nearly all of them (not so much the regenning thing but w/e its not gonna impact most people). We just really havnt had any cleric/caster love for quite some time. Im getting bored swinging a sword.
Bleh.

Read the level 9 list. Not much there that can be implemented in an MMO without an almighty ton of headaches.
Granted, I would have really liked to see Storm of Vengeance, but I suspect that would be implemented much like Ice Storm, which is more of a pain than it's worth!
As for what we have...
Energy Drain gives a very useful debuff option that clerics never had before. Mass Heal makes group heals so efficient that you may actually have time to do other things than spam mass cures. Implosion just sounds... wicked fun. True res is a lot more significant now that the various clickies have been nerfed.
A small selection? Sure. But some very nice options, much better than the level 8s were.

I dont disagree, in fact I said as much next to the spells. But variety is the spice of life:rolleyes:
At least they didnt give us token but useless spells this time to pad it out. (Firestorm im looking at you.)
Oh well except for the token useless summon line.

I wish theyd listen to you, you seem to understand what many of us clerics are mulling over. I never thought id consider multiclassing my pure clerics before but not to impressed with the spells or capstone right now. Many have brought up great ideas including better deity enhancements that actually make us divine warriors instead of heal bots but it seems to fall on death ears :(

Hey no disagreements with you. I may actually roll a battle cleric if they released the cleric prestige enhancements and I found the cleric one to my liking. I am hoping that in future mods they fluff up the 8th and 9th level spell lists which are both obviously lacking.
One big issue with 9th level spells for clerics is so many of them in the player's handbook do not translate well to a computer game. Storm of Vengeance, Miracle, Gate (it would be cool if you could summon old quest bosses to do your bidding, but totally unpractical), etc. are difficult to put in game and since we don't have domains in ddo we can't put in the domain spells either.
A follow up question for you is whether there is any consideration for putting in domains in ddo again? It would be a good time to try to get domains out for when they release druids.

According to some the person you yell "HEALS ME" me to while they are rushing threw a quest.
And the person that they fear the most when we pull out weapons ready to fight instead of said healing ;)

You're being kind of narrow, Nick: firestorm sucks now, sure, but what if we have greater or superior combustion VIII next mod?
then its ..uh... pretty useful.
Remember that the best spells in the game are about to change: a lot of common spells cap at 15d6 (blade barrier, cone of cold) whereas less used alternatives continue up to 20d6 or higher (delayed blast, cometfall).

Firestorm has a horrid casting time just like its cousin flame strike.. They need to fix the casting time too.. Also add a fire enhancement for clerics to up damage etc..

since they do partially fire and partially unblockable good damage they should be enhanced my the good/smiting lines no one -ever- takes.

I understand where you are coming from, but without enhancements and the way they are seeming to introduce high level potency items (i.e 2-3 item slots to hit useful levels) I just cant agree with you.
Also as matty said the casting time is not fun. Add to this no enhancement lines.... its really not worth the sp. BB might cap at 15 but its persistent. Clerics dont have the sp pool of sorcs.

They already have superior Devo VIII in the game.
How much is mass cure critical used?
Blade barrier may cap at 15d6... but I think they fact that it can hit twice completely negates the extra 5d6 that firestorm has.
And then when you think that blade barrier can actually hit more than twice... that it can actually hit 40+ times...
Yeah... how is firestorm useful again?
