There is nothing compelling for a ranger beyond lvl 18 for enhancements/feats besides the 25% alacrity if you are pure ranger.

Now, the question really is do continue to take levels of ranger (assuming you are multiclassed already) or do you further your splashed class? I am leaning towards 3 lvls of ranger (18 total) for the extra spell and tempest/deepwood/arcane archer III and 1 more level of fighter (2 total) for HP and a feat.

25% more ranged attack speed, especially when using manyshot, isn't a compelling enough reason for you? my ranger almost exclusively melees but that still seems pretty good.

His problem is that the build already has a splash level, rendering the capstone consideration moot.

Like my Jareko below, but with that build I am doing what I want with it. Full ability to handle traps/locks etc at any challenge level, and some pretty serious melee/ranged ability as well. Long ago accepted that by splashing I would be giving up high end ranger perks.

My observation is that there is nothing beyond lvl 18 that is worth taking if you are already a splashed character. There are a ton of 1 lvl rogue rangers out there as well as 1-2 lvl fighters/monks/pally/ whatever that may have the opportunity to get to lvl 19 ranger. What I am seeing is that there is nothing at lvl 19 so you might as well take 2 lvls of splash instead of 19/1. To me, I am a little disappointed that there is nothing at lvl 19. That was the point of this particular thread. Now, there are plenty of other threads discussing how silly it is to implement a fix as a capstone, but not this thread.

I have a pure lvl 10 ranger that I will also start lvling up, but he doesn't 3 years of raiding invested in him and I have no real attachment to that new toon as compared to my current 15/1 ranger.

My ranger is 14 ranger / 2 fighter. I am a little bit dissappointed about not getting the capstone with him, but he is getting all the tempest enhancements. Had I known about the capstone back in 2007 when I made him, I still would have done the same thing. The 2 levels of fighter suit him better, as he was designed to be a melee character. Being that I am a huge fan of ranged combat, I have already started leveling up a new pure elf ranger, to give DDO another shot at the ranged game. I used to play a 3 school archer back in Asheron's Call and it was the most fun I ever had in a MMORPG. Too bad it's soooo outdated. I did like the sounds and annimations durring the buff dance though. :)

The only other thing you get at 20th is another favored enemy and the +2 bonus to all current ones. Nothing special at 19 though so if you are already splashed go ahead and take 2nd splash.

What about another favored enemy? That's why mine is staying pure. (Not enough dex to hit with a bow and a pocket bard).
