There is clearly some sort of communication issue going on with the new datacenter. I have been getting cases where it seems stalled when connecting to the web server, but then when I try to reload the page it comes right up. The same seems to be happening when logging into the game.

Trying to do a little analysis on this, when a web browser, or I suspect, the game client(program) attempts to establish a connection, there is something called a handshake, where the client may say something like, "Hello", and will expect a response. If the response does not come back, the client will sit there waiting a certain amount of time for a response before giving up, or asking again.

If the initial "hello" from our computers is getting lost, the connection will not be established, and we see the login failures and other problems we are seeing. So, this implies that either there is a server problem causing our "hello" to not be heard, or our "hello" just does not make it to the server in the first place. Latency does not appear to be the problem, but something like packet loss going through a router or switch COULD cause this, because "hello" might come in as "llo", and not be understood by the server.

Yes, this is a very vague way to explain it to those not very technical, but packet loss CAN lead to connection problems like this. Something on the servers, or in the hard drive array(s) could also be causing some of the server code to "stall" due to the hard drive not responding quickly enough(this is code dependent).

People will NOT be happy if they can't log in for the extra experience and loot this weekend.

The weekends are hard for me to game on because of newborn duty and family aggro

But..

Monday and tuesday It's just me and baby "no wife telling me what to do" so when kiddo sleeps, i get TONS of ddo time in.. .. I can actually take advantage of this xp bonus and push deadz past lvl 8!!!

I went to Iraq for 18 months and got back In Jan, got on my level 12 toons leveled them all to 16 in like a week and did all the raids... Do I have to go back to Iraq again for the next mod to be released?

Well my wife leaves for work monday morning at 5am, and comes home tuesday at 5pm.. my plan is to wake up at 5am, and pound coffee till 5pm the next day.. lol no sleep!!!

Baby sleeps about 3 hours a pop between bottles.. we'll see, but point is monday - tuesday is when i'm most likely to get any gaming time at all.. I'm glad it's through tuesday instead of sunday.

You know, him getting it all isnt always a bad thing. 99 percent, like us, he doesnt need it. I think of him as a one stop shopping center. if i need something he'll most likely have it. If he pulls it, he's gonna sell it most likely anyway. So, its really a win/win when he's shrouding or camping house d, cause in the long run, i'm gonna have a chance at it lol

How about a random w/p weapon next mod for the new gift. When I say weapon I mean battle axe, Khopesh, sickles, in other words slashing or bludgeon as well as pierce. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Chuckle now, but I picked up pierce proficiency on my dwarven fighter who would prefer to only use axes but has to use stupid rapiers for stat damage so I had to pick up pierce proficiency. How friggin' dumb is that. Why the heck should a dwarf use fruity rapiers. I have not seen any bludgeon characters have you. They changed the rules for w/p on these pierce weapon so why can't they change the rules and give them to slash weapons and bludgeon weapons.

If they went and introduced CHA damage weapons that would render you helpless at 0 CHA, that would be cool since I suspect CHA tends to be a very min maxed stat on many many characters. Like them dang spiders in Von2...

I had the same issue, twice now. The first time I selected and hit enter on the account name, and retyped the password. Got in. This morning I had to go out and grab an update, and then had to reboot. Made it in afterwards, and everything seems to be fine.

The KEY word here is "related". The problem does not have to be in the new data center in order to be related to the move. It could be related in a hundred different ways, but here is just one example:

1. They move the datacenter, which requires some config settings to change.
2. They notice something klugey about the way account verification works with DDO and LOTR (i.e. because the same verification system is used for both).
3. As a part of updating the config so it works with DDO's new location, they fix the kluge.
4. They test and all works great for both DDO and LOTR for a day or two.
5. Some automated system refreshes something that was dependant on the kluge.
RESULT: Even though LOTR didn't move, both DDO and LOTR start having problems that are *related* to the DDO datacenter move.

I'm not saying this is the case. I'm just saying that failure to consider the possibility could be a reason they have not found this yet. I think we can deduce that nobody actually knows what the problem is, because this is a business critical issue for Turbine. Therefore, if they knew what was wrong, one would think they would have fixed it by now. Therefore they don't know what is wrong. Therefore it is foolish to exclude the possibility that it is related to the datacenter move.

The surest way to fail in troubleshooting something, is to erroneously exclude possible sources of the problem from the scope of your examination.

That was kinda funny, in the middle of a loot weekend/weekday, they had several hours of "scheduled" downtime for maintenance. So on top of losing a couple of days of gametime during move and related issues afterwards, also lost a chunk of the xp time, loot didnt really bother me, but full xp time wouldve been nice. Oh well another instance of giving with the right hand and taking away with the left lol
