View Full Version : New /stuck command!

Have you ever gotten stuck in a corner? Caught between a rock and a hard place? Hung up in a tree? In Module 9, you can use the /stuck command to get out of sticky situations! By typing /stuck, your character will be scooted out of the stuck spot to freedom! Don’t forget to submit a bug report if you happen to find a stuck spot so no one has to be stuck by that spot again!

This is not my usual type of post, but even my patience are being tried. No offense, but you are way too easily pleased.
I have been stuck maybe 5 times in 3 years and 3 of those times I found my own way out using a DDoor or some other thing. I guess some will find this useful and cool, but these little teasers are getting lame. :(
Please give us something to sink our teeth into. You gotta do better than this Tolero. :D

Well as I said in the vote threads, there is a ceiling on how cool my tidbits can be... I can't steal stuff out from under the press tour peeps oO
How exactly do you become unstuck? Are you moved forward a few paces or are you placed in a specific spot like a DD? Can you in turn maybe /stuck yourself into a wall instead of the normal path? Is there a time limit in between uses?
Can I /stuck out the abbots rock prison (If that still remains in mod 9 that is). Can I /stuck to cross a ledge? Can I /stuck to replicate a DD?
I'm just saying that in most games with a /stuck command you will find that it is used most often not for its intended purpose, what had DDO done to prevent this?

What it will attempt to do is scoot you back to the last spot you were that you were still running around freely (so to speak). If you are held by something in the game (like tripped or other such "zomg I can't move" circumstances) the effect will still be on you. You can only use /stuck once per day.

Merlask, I mean Tolero, once per day? I know this stuck thing is coming from Middle earth but there we can use this command 1 per HOUR. Do you love Middle earth 24 times more than Eberron? If we were Dragonlance or Greyhawk or Forgotten realms would we have gotten the 1x per hour? Just joking but odd it's only once per diem considering I have seen someone stuck and wait 3 hours after filing a ticket and still be stuck.

I'll double check with them on this, but the last info I had was 1 per day... mostly as a safety net against nefarious purposes. But I will double check it to be sure it's not sooner than that.

I can understand that but once per day seems pretty low. Could you consider raising this a little?
Two to four times per day would probably be a decent compromise.

I believe that it mostly has to do with the difference between the two games. LOTRO's stuck command takes you all the way to your bound location. DDO has a few other ways of getting you around, such as ddoor etc, that still keep you in your quest. This stuck command doesn't fling you back to your bind spot, as in DDO it's a bummer to have to exit a dungeon and take a re-entry penalty or have the instance reset on you and so on and so forth :(

And what are you doing with the other hand?
The problem is when you get stuck, especially at lower level when you don't have DD, it is a very long time to wait for a DM to move you. This is a welcome quick fix to that.
I agree the command needs to be allowed more than 1/day.
BTW - I think this tidbit was already mentioned so it doesn't count toward your three tips Tolero!

I remember the old Threnal loot runs and training all the mobs to end room and jumping up on the bookcase and getting struck there quite a few times and wish they had some sort way to get out, tumbling and rolling didnt always work. This wasnt the only place this happens as I was an exploiter... er I mean explorer of textures and terrains to find nice semi-safe spots to fight off mobs (IE-unabled to be flanked).
Am not referring to coward crevace in Reaver where all the cheesy soloers's hid because they didnt know how to deal with the Air Ele's from the ground floor.

Oh, I totally understand that but /stuck x3 per day would be that much exploitable than x1 per day?
Don't get me wrong, I understand the fear, but unless the number is currently low to prevent known unfixed exploits, I think it's a little too low. In the end, I have not seen the command so I cannot know how exploitable it is and I could be wrong but once per day sounds low. It's rare we get stuck more than once per day but since there is no cost to it, would it really hurt to be little more generous?
I am not comparing DDO to LotRO.

That would also have the interesting application of reporting it anytime it's abused, bringing it to the notice of the devs immediately.
Win/win if you ask me.

auto-sending a report would mean that anyone abusing it would automatically report themself, making it easy to catch them.

Dex was here.
I play a lot of PD. I have been stuck 4 or 5 times. A few times I waited over an hour to get out. On a non-PD toon this is less of a big deal, as at lev 16 I have ways of getting out and have no fear of death. This news excited me. Would I like more . . . sure, but that does not mean I can't like what little tidbits we do get.

Actually I think once per day is fine.
I have been stuck maybe 4 times in 3 years - happens very very rarely.
If you are getting stuck more than once a week - let alone a day - then you are doing something wrong compared to the rest of us.
AND let's be honest - there will as some point most liekly be some nefarious reason to use it as Tolero put it that once per day would be fine.

Thx for the info.
All info is good...thank you.
And it sounds like a good fix.
Could you guys make something that would move dropped keys, etc to another place?
Maybe back to the original location of the guy who dropped it?
It's been awhile but I think keys still end up behind walls...etc.

I know Eladrin had been working on some changes to try and keep breakable objects from going inside of walls, and whether or not that work carried over into objects from the boss monsters, like keys, I'm unsure. I'll see what I can find out.

Once a day seems a little low but then again most people know how to get out of stuck location as well.
Nice addition IMO and has the potential to free up some CS time for more 'important' issues.
Will there be an 'auto-report' feature that would send a bug report on the location? Might be a valuable tool.

One way to deal with the possible exploit issue and to make the /stuck command work better is to have it port you back to the beginning of a dungeon entrance similar to DD. When in an explorer area this could be a pain especially in the Sub so then it should port you back to the last portal entry point. When running around town it could be the closest tavern.
This would get the command to work as closely to the LoTR command from which this is stemming without, I would think, too much fuss. As for the number of times per day while 1x day is low much more than that and it will be abused to no end.
Also if you could get the command to automatically bug report that would be great for two reasons. First it would save us the players from having to deal with it and secondly the devs can see if it is being abused and by whom.

I dislike the once per day ... myself cause in the case of new missions when you might get stuck in one place mucking around as you wait for someone to come back from afk
and then use it then next mission something happens and now your waiting for half hour for support team to help you out.
Think its better if you do it once per mission instead that way people aren't using it as a exploit.
