View Full Version : Side-by-Side Item Comparing

Deciding what item to use can be a difficult decision. Is the item you're looking at better than the one you're using at the m (http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt283/itsapuzzle/01101101.jpg?t=1243551531)oment? We've added a small feature to help make this deliberation process a bit easier - side by side item comparisons!

In Mod 9, whenever you mouse over a wearable item to inspect it, any item you're currently wearing that uses the same inventory slot will be shown along side it so you can more easily compare and contrast the items.

Example: You loot a new helm. You can mouse over the helm in your inventory, and not only will the item details window appear, but the detail window for the helm you're currently wearing will also appear beside it!

This doesn't really seem too necessary, as item stats in DDO are pretty static. It's not like other games where I'm going to pull a helm of stat+155 and want to compare it to my helm of stat+143. Unless maybe you're giving us like 50 new effects in the next mod? :D

You're just making it too easy for the unwashed masses and dumbing down the game.

Some people might like to do this with items not yet in inventory, such as auction sales and binding raid loot.

On a semi-related topic, many players would like to be able to put bound items in the trade window so that someone else can see it.

Cool.

Question: Currently, Mouseover has a little glitch where sometimes you can hold the pop-up open as long as you're holding the mouse over. Other times, the pop-up disappears almost instantly.

Is this known, tweakable, fixed, etc?

Im glad to see this one get in.

on a similar note, it would be super cool if we could link items into chat...since we can already examine other players loot from the chat window, i don't imagine it would be too difficult...most other games use the 'shift+click' method on the item during text entry. This would be really handy for sharing neat loot pulls with guild, or asking your friends if an item is worth keeping/selling/AHing.

Maybe you will not use every feature in mod nine but the variety of things they have been showing us is pretty cool and will enhance many a players enjoyment in the game.

If you want more/quicker development maybe spend some time promoting the game to others so they get a larger player base (therefore more money) instead of putting worthless comments in this forum.

Ok we can already do this by pressing the lock button on the examine window for both items to compare.

What I am reading here is you are now doubling the windows that show up on my screen when I examine an item.

Don't see why this is more helpful.

If nobody has yet given a answer to this, I have a fix for this when it happends to me. I go into my options and find the slider that tells how long a window to stay open, I move the slider to the maximum and then I look at a item, it whould stay on and not dissapear, then you can move the slider back to your preferred time for such windows to stay open.

no, it wont work like that, if they make it like LOTRO, which is where the tech came from, it will be txt in another color below the items text. What we are seeing here with a lot of this stuff is the trickle down effect of the shared engines

When I've seen this happen, I've noted that the item examination window is appearing on-screen between the mouse cursor and the item I am hovering over. Since the item is no longer under my mouse (it's now the examination window under the cursor) I am no longer 'inspecting' that item and the examination window disappears.

That would be acceptable, but Tarrant's Example says that both "Windows" will be there side by side.

I hope you are right and its just the text added at the bottom, but if two windows pop up boy would that clutter up the screen. Some clarification is in order I think.

This new feature works for items in chests, on end reward lists, in trade windows, on the auction house, in broker or vendor windows, in your bank, and mail attachments. It does not show up when hovering over your toolbar or if you disable tooltips.

Yup - experienced players are going to know what enchantments are on their current equipment set so the extra windows are just something to get in the way. Maybe we could turn this off in options also?

I'm sure some newer players will like this feature but it's not something most people on the forums here will appreciate.

Developement time seems minimal on this one too though so 'eh'.. no big deal here.

It's nothing we NEED, but it is a nice feature that probably didn't take much time to do. AND it is at tidbit of info, so all around nice.

What you spoke was not "truth" for anyone but yourself, therefore making it an opinion. Your first response is trying to say that "no one" cares about this feature. That is a falsehood, as evidenced by other posts saying they like the idea.

As with most Mods, there are going to be parts some folks will like, and others they don't. But the overall picture is that there are parts of each mod so everyone gets a little something added to the game they will enjoy. For me, anything to do with PvP is pointless - To Me.
But others are going to like it, so even if i voice my opinion of it being a non-perk for me, I'd be out of line to say it's pointless for everyone.

Folks always seem to lose sight of the fact that the game is being made for a LOT of people, and needs a wide variety of things added so that as many people as possible get something in each mod.

Anyway, that's all I got to say about that.

How useful/irratating this is gonna be depends if it's like LoTRO (1 window with both stats) or 2 seperate windows that do nothing but clutter up my screen ever time i try and loot a chest.

We definatly need some clarification on this before people get worked up over nothing.

With this much tech coming over from LOTR, I am guessing that we are going to get one of the following-

A) All dungeon layouts are now going to be shared, with monsters/challenges from the appropriate universe. New content will appear in both games, and make it easier to roll out, QA and they will just wall paper the differences with some UI.

or

B) All DDO players and LOTRO players will now have access to each others game, at the same price. One monthly subscription, two games.

As people get bored with LOTRO, they can come to DDO and visa versa. Similar to what COH/COV does.

Keeps your people paying, gives more content to all.

This sounds great. I often compare items to learn the game and individual classes. I learn constantly about the game while having my character sheet up and checking out loot items. It will also be nice to know what's currently equipped when trying to decide what kind of item you will need to find another slot for when looking at loot. +25% striding when you've got a +6 stat item on in the equipment window, that sort of thing.

somehow I think we'd end up stealing more players from LOTRO than them from us. Not that Turbine would care, paycheck is a paycheck. I think alot of us are here b/c we've rejected the typical MMO slow combat. Having a dual subscription would allow more people to give DDO a shot.

You know what dude, this is another great feature for NEW PLAYERS. Not every single addition can be for catering to old jaded players desperate for new content and only new content, they can not alone keep this game around. Every single new feature scoffed at by the "since launch" playerbase has been detrimental to attracting new players. I know a lot of people are just constantly running the shroud totally ignorant to the fact that this game is finally starting to attract people outside of its current core playerbase, but its time to wake the hell up and realize that the game REALLY REALLY needs this type of sheen to get this game where it needs to be...and its working.

So sit back, have a **** beer or whatever your vice is, and chill the f out while turbine implements a few random features that will help take this game off of life support.

It won't be useful for a capped character with named loot that they had to farm for weeks to get in every slot. But it will be useful when you're raising up a character. I don't know know how many times I've gotten a character up to level 7 and then realized that I'm still using the protection 1 ring from Korthos.

I'm excited for this. I still do this at level 16, weighing in the pros and cons of one sword to another. This is going to save me a lot of time and hassle, and it'll allow me to sort my hotkey bars in order of weapon type, and then efficiency/usefulness from left to right.

I like. Nice feature. :D

I'll be turning this option off. I hate the way it brings up 2 boxes when you hover over items. In the rare case that I need to sit and study items side-by-side, I'll lock the windows open.
