View Full Version : Request - New brokers for higher level items

I would like to request that some additional brokers are added with Mod9 to spread out the higher level items a bit more. When the game first came out with 10 levels they split the brokers up to 4 groups each taking about 1/4 of the level range of items. In those early days the highest end broker was often empty or had very few items since getting level 8-10 gear was something for the elite to accomplish. Currently we have gear dropping up to level 16, the brokers which were meant for level 8-10 gear are now getting level 8-16 (Weapon and armor), this is half the level range and will become an even larger range with the level cap increase.

It is not uncommon for me to travel to the broker to sell the less usable items to the broker and to find the list takes 10 seconds to fill in fully. I try and take the time to look through what other people have sold and have found some nice items from time to time. When the cap is increased to 20 the list is going to invariably become even more crowded and more of a pain to look through. I can imagine that if generating the list of items in the chests was causing some lag before they fixed it, having that even longer list generated each time someone opens the shop can't be good for the system.

I shudder to think of how big the current high end broker list of items is going to be on the weekend shortly after mod 9 comes out. I would like to request that, either more brokers are added to maintain the original balance is maintained (this would add 3-4 more brokers for mod 9 to handle the 11-20 gear) or a couple of more brokers are added and the range of values they carry would be increased.

I'm not sure what would need to be done to hold the additional brokers, expand the rooms they are in now or add another area for the higher value brokers to all be in. After all if you are doing level 16-20 quests the chances you are going to have something to sell to the current brokers would be low. You would need the new, higher level brokers to be buying your loot.

Thank you for your time.

Though lately posting any ideas except "New Content" or "FIX LAG NOW" invites an amazing amount of Flamage from many sources, I totally agree with this idea. The Pawn shops, more so for weapons, have listing so long it takes awhile to load them. I too grow tired of sorting and starting at the bottom just to see interesting things. Perhaps it is time to separate the lv 14 and above loot. A new High End broker in an easy to access area (don't want to make getting to it to hard) is a great Idea and probably wouldn't take much to get set up and going.

The idea I have had since to expand on it would be to split the brokers at the 12 or 14 range and use 2 of each broker for the new range for each of the 4 types of gear. Change the current high end brokers to buy gear in the 8-12 range and add 2 more, 14-16 and 18-20 (using armor and weapon lvls the break would need to be different for clothing and jewelry). The new 8 brokers would be put in one room near the mod 9 content in a relatively easy to access spot.

Considering the load from the lists of all the full brokers being opened and sent to the players might be part of the lag issue I don't see how this would hurt. It should also not be that hard to implement. The biggest issue being finding a good place to put the brokers.

I am actually trying to request that this be added as part of the new content. Its also a possible source of lag that they might want to check. It can't be good for the load when 12 people finish a raid and go to the broker, all open the list, and sell the unusable items they got.

For those that did not know or have not noticed the brokers where originally broken up by + to the item. With weapons it started at +2 and each broker handled a different + up to +5 which was the highest you could hope to get when the game came out. This resulted in the lists being a manageable size and allowed people to find gear of their level quickly. If you were level 6 or 7 and wanted to look for a new weapon you knew that you went to the +4 broker to browse for gear or to the +5 broker if you were close to level 8.

However as the level cap was raised they did not add new brokers. The brokers that used to just deal with +5 weapons are now handling +5-+9 and higher weapons. This is resulting in a very long list of items being sent to the players every time the list is opened. I'm sure its also not helping their database as the entries for the +5 and greater brokers are probably much larger then all of the lower level brokers and its being accessed much more as well. When the level cap is increased to 20 that list in the database that must be sent to each player every time the broker is access which inevitably grow even larger which would result in an even greater load. While the ideal might be to add brokers for each of the +s from 6-12 this would result in an additional 5 or 6 brokers for each of the gear types. 20-24 more brokers would probably result in crowding wherever they are added unless it was in a new branch of the marketplace.

Building that big of a place would probably require a lot of time which is why I suggested just 2-3 brokers for the higher level items added into a single room somewhere with the new material.

What are peoples thoughts on that? Do you think that having so many items in one part of the database accessed fairly often might cause problems?

It would be nice if someone at Turbine could at least look at this. It would have been a problem that just sort of creep up on you if you did not think about it.

Probably the best bet would be to change the levels of weapons at each current broker. (ex. Rusty Nail Broker carries ML2-4 stuff, House Brokers are split up into ML:6-8; ML:10-12; ML:14-16) Then add access to level appropriate NPC brokers in the common areas. (ex. Zawabi’s Refuge, Gianthold, Meridia, Reavers Refuge, etc.)

I'd rather have all brokers buying my weapons and have them sorted in different tabs if I want to buy.

Then, placing brokers for easier access would be cool. It's pretty annoying to have to go to the right houses to sell our gear.

I was just thinking today that they're should be more brokers for the higher level stuff.

I like this a lot.

Even if they don't add a new broker, at least redistributing the gear across the ones we have would be an immense help. (1-5, 6-10, 11-15, and 16-20+).

This has been brought up before, so they've heard the idea. Just hope it's part of the quiet little behind-the-scenes goings on that we're not privy to yet.

And yeah - ALL the brokers should be somewhere in the "Marketplace". Just seems obvious.

I like this Idea too!
Think of it as one Mercantile company buying up all the smaller shops!

Either would be better than current.

I'll second the notion.

And this would be a small scale addition hardly comparable to fixing lag/adding content so I don't mind a little effort put in to this.

I would prefer one broker for weapons and a simple filter for weapon type and level.
