I have just unlocked 32 point character builds (thanks to all the great parties for their help) And I am leaning towards making a melee ranger (yes another one on the servers ha ha) anyway I am looking for some guidance/advice for a good build. Ac is nice, then dps. I do not mind splashing classes just looking for a good build that I can get into raids with at higher lvls it seems like any 28 pt build gets his a@@ smacked in higher lvl quests and I'm looking for something a little more surviveable and end game appropriate. I do not currently have millions of PP or +2 tomes. (my old PnP playstyle was a pally if that helps any hehe)
Thanks for all the help in advance

well i would say check the iron monk thread by illu or http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=1803036&postcount=11 << that build works well as well with and without the tomes

so many... where to start?

You can make your own, not that hard. Just take any of the following: 1-2 barbarian, rogue, fighter, or monk levels. All of their benefits are pretty easy.

If you want a build, look above, or check out "The Exploiter" (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=168687).

For dps, with a little ac, this is as simple as it gets: Human; Khopesh. Almost max strength, put rest into con and dex, with a little bit in wis. Done.

For no ac, I would reccomend WF with khopesh, pure ranger, or 2 barb/fighter levels.
Really, its hard to go wrong.

Well thanks for the answers so far. the two builds I can easily find are iron monk and exploiter that while they look like phenominal builds, unfortunately I do not have a single +2tome let alone 3 of them(or heaven forbid a +3 one) So I was exploring 32 point str build TWF Dwarf Fighter/ ranger with mostly ranger. Something along the lines of 1-2 fighter with the rest ranger. From what I can piece together I'm looking at fighter for CE/ armor mastery maybe??(AC). So I was kinda hoping to find a build along those lines for starting stat distibution/ feats etc. I like dps, but I don't want an A/C so low that I drop faster than mobs do. Thanks again and if anyone has an idea of the type build I'm looking for Please leave a link or build name.

Go with the exploiter and just don't use tomes (except for a +1 int tome, which is only 40k plat). Or, if you prefer, you can use the build I made for my wife (who doesn't have tomes). There are tomes at level 16 just to show finalized stats, but none of them are required to make the build work.

OP: I’d suggest the “Slim Jim the Grim” build. It’s much less gear intensive than the AC monk splash builds. I rolled mine up before Grenfell posted his variant and went base stats of 17/14/14/13/9/9. I only ate a +1 tome at level 1. I went this route to take advantage of +5 tomes (probably not going to be in Mod 9 but the highest inherent bonus in P&P is +5) and even if I don't get them the advantage of playing a human is that you can make any stat/tome/item combo work for you.

The main thing you need to remember about tomes and rangers are that the only one that might make a difference at character creation is an INT tome. So if you roll up one of these builds you can either adjust the base stats for a +1 or no INT tome. You could also adjust how you spend your skill points.

So I was exploring 32 point str build TWF Dwarf Fighter/ ranger with mostly ranger. Something along the lines of 1-2 fighter with the rest ranger. The AC based armored tempest dwarf starts off with a gear grind that is even worse than the monk splash grind. (Kundarak Delving Suit vs. Icy Raiment) And after all has been said and done, they still have a lower AC.

If you can find your way to secure a docent of defiance and plan out a way to heal yourself or have someone dependable to heal you - going WF and decking yourself out in damaging guards mixed with low AC (less than 40) is pretty devastating in terms of DPS. It also lets you skip the flavor of the month (possibly flavor of forever if nothing changes) monk builds and do something a bit different which will keep you busy for months. Just make sure you get that con score up, cause you're going to be taking a beating. Barb and fighter are good splashes - monk and rogue are sort of redundant because you wont' need evasion if you have 9 ranger levels.

thanks for the advice.
I think I am going to go with a dwarf variant of the exploiter.
starting stats: about STR-16: Dex-15: Con-14: 13(+1 tome at start)=14: Int -13: WIS-14: CHR-6.
My only other question is if my charisma is so low is it worth it to spend ap on intimidate?? or would they be better spent on something else (maybe o/l).
I'll be boosting con, toughness with dorf enhancements dex with ranger enh, and str at lvls. Tempest and axe enhancements ftw. Advice is always welcome :)

At this point in the game, with the gear available to characters, you're gonna be able to get a reasonable intimidate no matter what your starting cha.

Now, you're not going to be the guy keeping Sulo locked with intimidate, or being able to get big momma in the hound raid... But for almost anything else, your intimidate will do just fine.
