In Black Mantis, I am known as a layed back and reasonable person, who will do whatever I can to help folks out. It is very rare that I get seriously irritated, much less p****d off.

On the forums, I have never, until now, started a thread in anger and full of negativity.

A couple hours ago, 4 Black Mantis members decided to do a Crucible run, Black Mantis style: well underlevel and who cares about group/class makeup. We had 2 pugs join us, one from a well respectd guild, and the other...well. 'Twas an interesting group: 3 rogues, a fighter, a barbarian and my non-healing specced twf'ing warchanter, all 9's and 10's. We started, and all was going relatively smoothly. In the fight leading to the trap shrine (can't remember the horn's name), one of the rogues die. No problem there, we collect the stone and after getting the horn, drop the stone at the shrine. Said rogue rezzez...and stands there. We think "ok, must be on a quick afk break", altho said rogue never says a word. My warchanter dies a few minutes later coz i wasn't paying attention to my own HP's lmao. My stone gets hauled to the shrine gate and dropped off. After several minutes of twiddling my thumbs I start sending tells, then spamming tells. After 15 minutes of this we get the picture...XP soaker. LOL we even sent a ticket in to see if he cud be removed :)

To make a long story shorter, the rest of us completed the quest after waiting a bit for a response.

I stayed in the instance an extra 15 minutes standing at the shrine gate to see if he would move. I finally recalled and dropped coz Black Mantis wanted to do POP next. ONE minute after dropping, I get a tell from said rogue saying "I'm sorry, i had somthing important to do".

Originally, I had planned on coming to the forums, and posting out in the open; his/her name, guild, and screenshots. Would that have gotten me infraction points? Most definately. Would I have recieved some sort of a ban? very possible. I didn't care at the moment. Fortunately for me, my wife chose that moment to have me eat dinner, and fed me my pain meds, so I mellowed out a bit.

Now, I am a parent with 2 kids, one of them 20 months old. I understand emergency AFK's. I understand bio breaks. I understand the need to grab a quick bite to eat so u can take meds afk's. I understand that this is a game and that real life takes precedence. And, so do the other 3 Black Mantis members with me in that quest. If something happens, just say a quick "AFK emergency" and we will make every effort to ensure that you get your xp and your chests...AND you will be invited for another run with us.

But, to disappear without a word and not move until we drop.....then go get ur loot and hop to your next quest??? Ummm I hate that more than I hate lag and air ellies mixed together.

So, instead of openly posting names and guild tags, I'll send a pm to any who ask.

(This will probably earn me my first infraction points.)

people seem to think that just because it's a game other peoples time isn't valuable and so they don't see it as being an arse to go afk without saying anything.

I have a guildy that does the same thing having a conversation on teamspeak with him he randomly goes afk and when i get ****ed he wasn't answering me he acts like it's no big deal for him to just walk away without simply saying afk a sec.

Seriously takes 2 seconds to say afk but it makes a huge difference.

I guess it depends what it is. I got a phone call when I was in slavers about a year and a half ago that my sister had died. I didn't say anything to anyone. My son has a habit of breaking glass things and one time he cut his foot very badly and I needed to take him to the hospital. Didn't say anything then either.

If he rezes at the end and goes to collect loot then that's a different story. In both of my instances, I was just logged due to inactivity. I apologized later to the folks that I remembered but I guess my point is that you never know what happened.

Edit: A typical zerg run is what 18 minutes in crucible?

I understand real life stuff can interfere with a mission. However, it had better be a compelling reason if someone doesn't have the time to inform the party or at least to drop group. Please send tell.

Yeah I mean one time during a shroud my son got his finger caught in a window, I was panicked but I blurted out over mic "Got to go accident" after I got him settled down I made sure to go back and let everyone know what happened. Bad things can happen with family specially with curious toddlers and babies about but I think people are way more understanding if you let them know whats happening then just going afk. Ive never been made to feel bad for something my little one does to pull me from the pc.

Not that I will shun this person altogether, for me it usually takes at least 3 strikes, but this clearly sounds like it could be strike 1!

I mostly agree with everyone else, but with one difference. I send a tell to the party leader explaining what's up. Usually, my AFKs are forseeable. Like when I had to pick my car up from the shop. I sent a tell to the leader letting him know I'd be gone for a while (we were in VoN 5). I offered to drop, but he told me to sit tight. I got back JUST before the golem fight. To the other 10 members, I was a piker to the extreme. For me, and the party leader, I was afk.

I don't feel that I need to justify my actions to 5-11 other people. 1 will suffice. It's their group afterall.

Please PM with the name, and guild name if you still have it.

I would say those both qualify for the drop everything without a word category. Hell I had to drop group once because my wife went into labor, after that it became the standard drop excuse for members of our guild just to mock me:D

Granted RL major emergencies do happen and can cause someone to not say anything before AFKing. But something you could do is to move the affendors stone far enough away that they cant rez, in this case, the other side of the doors to the rez shrine. forcing them to only recieve the XP and end reward(if they grabbed quest) but no chest. Someone isn't going to talk or type AFK emergency, then screw'm. Exceptions to this rule would obviously be for people you know(friends and guildies) and have grouped with in past(people not on friends list but have shown in other groupings not do this type of thing). People who pug with a mostly Guild group should make every effort to let that group know if/when they go AFK, if they dont, see above and screw'em. Your other option sucks, but also works, if after a period of time, you still get no responce, dont finish quest, leave good amount of mobs, leave quest, break group and reform. If he comes back right away, you know he letting you drag his worthless butt thru the quest and dont pick him back up, grab another player.

Well. . .

I think b4 you all go and Blacklist someone and their Guild, maybe you should ask that person what their side of the story is. Perhaps they said something on mic and the party didn't hear because of cross talk? Or maybe he was muted? Maybe he did indeed type something? Maybe he typed something--but in the wrong window? Maybe his/her side will further illustrate what a jerk they are. . . Maybe he fell asleep. . .You don't know, but there are 2 sides to the story.

In my experience, XP leeches don't send you a tell after the quest to apologize--they leech off you once, and never join one of your groups again. They aslo go afk at the beg of a quest, not the middle.

And also I would not judge an entire guild based on one player--if I did that, I wouldn't have anyone left to group with:) Including my own Guildies:)

So I was the rogue in this run. I was in the maze with everyone else, just about to get the horn when I hear a knock at the door. Fed Ex is at the door with a package, and it's the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pajamas I had been waiting for. You see, Dethe (leader of Caffeine) said that he has two sets of those pajamas (he calls them his "jam-jams") and wears them while he plays DDO. He said they make him feel like a kid again and they're soft on his tuckus. Well, I spent an hour trying to fit into my set but I don't fit into a childs XXL. By the time I returned, everyone was done.

Oh wait, I don't have a rogue, and I was across the country, must have been someone else. Sorry.

Thanks.

Hell no Mr. One Eye, don´t even think it was me.

2 reasons.

1) Gearofwar is a WF Barbarian, and doesn´t even hit Gianthold yet and;

2) He said "Well Respected Guild".

I´m off the hook and will not take the rap. :D

Our normal response to this sort of thing is to just recall, reform with a replacement, and just go-get-er-done. However, we had done quite a bit of the quest already, and the other pugger was getting low on time. We did NOT want to screw him; therefore we decided to complete the quest as is. Also, the rogue was afk inside the shrine room. The only way to get in that room when someone is inside, is for him to open the lever from the inside to let us in. The outside lever for the room next to the shrine is disabled as long as someone is inside :(.

Yeah I mean one time during a shroud my son got his finger caught in a window, I was panicked but I blurted out over mic "Got to go accident" after I got him settled down I made sure to go back and let everyone know what happened. I believe the key here is communication, even if it is just a quick AFK typed in party, or quickly blurted "got to go accident" over the mic. Even when I hear a crash and my son wailing, I still have the time to do 5 keystrokes as im pushing my chair back and standing. Whether we like it or not, everyone in the game gains a reputation (good or bad), thru the actions we do in-game.

Lol, I hate to break this to ya artvan, but Caffeine happens to fall into the "well respected guild" category in my book....even if ya'll are strategiCCally un-savy :D I love running with you folks, coz i never know what's gonna happen

Oh! Btw, can I have the link to those jam-jams too??? errm....uummm...ahem, for my sons of course

And I would love to see a screenshot of crucible in 18mins with 5 lvl9-10 characters, one DPS build only and no cleric:)

Why would you join a raid when you knew before hand that you had an appointment and had to leave? Emergencies and unforseen accidents happen, those I understand, but this is bad form IMO. I wouldn't even ask my guildies to do that for me.
