Launcher Freeze

I can't get the game to launch from the desktop icon. Intro screen comes up, then freezes. Been working on this for days, I'm getting really discouraged, especially because my account has already been activated and I'm now paying for something I can't use. Please help me.

Also, I've been trying to figure out how to enclose my launcher logs with code tags to make it easier for whom it may concern, but my computer skills are limited and I need the directions spelled out for me a little clearer, lol.

When you're looking at the screen for making a post, you click the # on the second line of characters above the text and it puts in <code></code> tags with [] instead of <>. Anything you want to post in code tags goes between the two tags. I'd recommend copy and paste. :)

So, I have tried starting the program from both the desktop shortcut and the start menu.
What happens is that the small yellow and red screen comes up it looks as though the program is going through the process of loading and then it stops and I can see, in white text, "Opening main something something".
Then the screen just stays like that. Forever. No error messges, the program does not terminate.
A button does show up on the taskbar. When I mouseover it, I can see a small screen shot of what appears to be the opening/login scrren for DDO. When I click on it the red and yellow screen sometimes gets more and more transparent until it disappears.
When I check the Task Manager, it lists D&D Online Stormreach as Running.

Your security software might be interfering. Are you using McAffee's, Norton's, or something less mainstream? You may need to tell your security software to allow DDO access to the internet.

I'll give it a try. I've given DDO permission through Norton now I'm going to reboot and try to launch

Did you grant turbinelauncher and dndclient permission? They both need unhindered access to the internet for the game to function properly.

Find your Launcher logs.

They should be somewhere like:



C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher

There should be a file called LauncherUserSettings.xml

If you can't find this directory then just search your whole computer for the file.

open that in notepad and find the line that reads



<option key="splashForm" value="True" />

and change that to False instead of True so it reads:



<option key="splashForm" value="False" />

This will disable the splash screen. Then you will be able to read the errors that are probably appearing underneath that you currently cannot see.

Post those errors here.

Found this in the DDO FAQ while searching for something else:

My DDO launcher is hanging on "Opening Main Form".

If your DDO launcher is hanging on the 'Opening Main Form' stage, please make sure that you have Internet Explorer installed and open, as Internet Explorer is the default web browser for the DDO launcher.

You do not need to make Internet Explorer your default browser, but Internet Explorer must be installed and turned on in order for the DDO launcher to proceed past the 'Connect' stage.

If you are still stuck at 'Opening Main Form':

1. Open your userpreferences.ini file (default is C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\My Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online
2. Change Graphics Core=d3d10 to Graphics Code=d3d9

Doing so may resolve your concern.

If you are still stuck at ‘Opening Main Form’, it is possible that the last patch did not apply correctly. In order to attempt to install the patch again, try the following:

1. Clear the Temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer (regardless of which browser you have set as default)
2. Open your Dungeons and Dragons Online program folder (Default path is C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online - Stormreach)
3. Open the "Backup" folder inside your DDO program folder
4. Copy the entire contents of your backup folder (Ctrl + A to highlight all, Ctrl + C to copy)
5. Go back to the Dungeons and Dragons Online program folder and paste the files you just copied in to the folder. (Ctrl + V to paste)
6. Click "Yes to all" when you are asked if you would like to overwrite the old files

After this is done, launch the game again and let it download and install the patch.

If you are still stuck at ‘Opening Main Form’ after trying the steps above, please try the following:

Note: You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. When you restore the settings, the functionality will be restored. However, the original error message or behavior may return.

Windows Vista

1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. -If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup
3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box
4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All
5. Click OK, and then click Restart

Also, try turning off your User Account Control settings in Vista.

If the above doesn't work, and you are a Vista user, please try creating a new standard user account . You can do so by following the steps HERE.

Windows XP

1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup
3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes: Load Startup Items
4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All
5. Click OK, and then click Restart

After the computer starts, test your game and see whether the problems occur.

To restore the computer to use a normal startup:

1. Start the System Configuration Utility
2. Click the General tab
3. Click Normal Startup
4. Click OK
5. Restart your computer

ive tried everything my minimum is at the right spot i had packets and ddoclient and still i get stuck at alerts and news and i dont know why it wont start my brother and his friend get on fine but i cant Please HELP!!!!

the spla thing the guy before was saying might have worked but i found that if you make the main.form windowedit doesnt freeze up.
