Hi there everyone. My name is Gary, my toons are in my sig and I have been playing on Ghallanda since before it was Ghallanda. I just finished installing DOOM3 on my computer. Why? you may ask. Well, it's +50% xp and +1 loot weekend. Something I should be and was excited about. That is until I actually logged in and tried to play. How in the hell does Turbine expect people to play a game that is basically unplayable? I've dealt with it for almost 3 years now. I've been in this place over and over and over again. Monday maintenance... shortly followed by Monday downtime. And the promise of Mod 9 Quiets us and our complaints. But what good is Mod 9 if the game does not run? And by not running I mean, 30 minutes trying to buy bolts from the House D vendor? Yes, that is why I am no longer logged in now. 30 minutes for bolts! Honestly, I would gladly give up Mod 9 for months if it meant Turbine could get the game running even slightly better than it is now. With the new mod on the way, and the bonus weekend, I expect/hoped that new players or old players would be joining in the try things out. But now, I hope they never considered it. If they have been around this weekend then they probably will run away and NEVER EVER COME BACK. ***? Why.............. WHY TURBINE WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? Is it self destruction? Do you perhaps want this to end so you don't have to deal with it anymore? Three years I've played and I love this game. I love the style of it and the interaction with others in it. But, its broken. Seriously, it is not running at even the slightest level of decency that would encourage someone outside of the game to join up and stick around. Hell I love the game and here I am, writing a horrible forum post about the state of DDO and now I am off to play Doom 3!! That my friends .................is sad.

I've had a lot of lag this weekend, but certainly not to the point of unplayable......
You sure its not your PC? Have you checked everything?

hecl, ive prob got about a mil xp this weekend.
Hmm, sorry for your frustrations. My PC is no where near top notch. It has 2 gigy things of ram, and a GTS 8800 320 mb video card, running on Comcast broadband, and I never have lag as bad as your describing there. I have sometimes when logging in and out takes a long time, and I get the rubber band lag every now and then. I even get the everything freezes up for about 2-5 seconds. I hope you find out whats going on so you can enjoy DDO.

It is something on your end. I used to really get mad with my old computer. I would load into the gianthold and it would take 2 minutes for cyodinie to appear. Now w/ a new computer everything is perfectly fine.

I have to agree I think its the OPs pc. Even when I was running my ols single core Athalon I wasnt having that much trouble.
So this time atleast it isnt Turbines fault (imho)

I did notice some lag this weekend, but was still able to get my (very, very non-uber) friends through Xorian Cipher and several other quests over the course of the weekend. I think some work does need to be done to improve playability for a larger percentage of the playerbase, but I'd also agree that anyone finding the game entirely unplayable (yes, 30 minutes to buy bolts counts) might benefit from changing something on their own end.

It's great to know that the problem was on my end. This has exposed a feature of my p.c. that I was unaware of. You see, sometime between when I posted this thread and 1am my time everything improved. I'm sure this whole situation had nothing to do with turbine not being able to handle a higher population of active players during the bonus weekend. Freaking awesome, my pc has a self reparation featuer that wasnt listed in my lil booklet. How long have computers been able to ya know fix themselves? GREAT!!
Honestly look folks, when these things were happening it wasn't just me. It was the people that sat there waiting for me to grab some bolts and meet them at a quest. Earlier it was my guildies that died in Madstone when everthing just stopped. Yea go ahead and defend Turbine on it. Fine. But the truth is there are more important issues with the game. Things that should take a priority over the Mod. I mean you honestly think that myself and 11 other people all experiencing the same lag issue at the same time is just a coincidence. Hey maybe all of our computers have the same problem. The only commonality in this was that we all had DDO running on our computers. But ok. It must be some type of nanobots that I didnt know were in the box here. Or gremlins? or or or...................... maybe, once it got late and people started logging off or just stopped running around and left their toons standing as they fell asleep, the servers could handle the fewer numbers active in game.

Earlier it was my guildies that died in Madstone when everthing just stopped. Yea go ahead and defend Turbine on it. Fine. But the truth is there are more important issues with the game.Possibly. Of course, it is still possible that one person in your group is causing your entire group to lag up.
Think of Turbine's servers as a highway. Everything goes well when everyone's chugging along, but what happens when someone suddenly stops? Everyone behind them is either slowed or jammed. This kind of thing happens all the time in computer network situations. Now don't get me wrong, lots of things on the developers side can cause this. Turbine might be to blame for this, but someone in your cluster with a bad installation or low-end hardware could be a factor as well. Odds are, factors on both sides of the fence have compounded to ruining your experience. Since you can only address your hardware & software, that's a good place to start.
Getting yourself some better hardware or optimizing your computer isn't the same as letting turbine off the hook. It is quite obvious that there are many problems on their side. Of course, not everyone is effected with them to the same degree.

That may be an indication of internet problems between you and turbine that cleared up when the busy time of day ended...
