Happy anniversary, DDO! I send big congratulations to the whole community and Turbine team on this, our third anniversary! I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all who play the game, as it is your love of the game that brings it to life and makes what we do as developers so rewarding. It has been a real pleasure working on the game up to this point, and we’ve been able to get so many great things accomplished in the last year – the whole Shavarath invasion storyline, the level cap increase to 16, and of course, the introduction of the Hirelings system! To read a full recap of our 18 free releases (!) to date, please click here (http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Category:Releases). I’d love to know what your favorite feature or content of the last year is – I think I am torn between the amazing tent explosion and the hireling system – even though my main is a cleric, I also always like having a cleric buddy around, just to keep my back covered and to allow me to be a little more battle ready. I love those offensive cleric spells – there’s nothing like a little righteous vengeance!
I wanted to talk a little bit today about some of the features coming out with Module 9. We’ve put a ton of work into Module 9, and as you know, there are features that we can’t talk about yet (but I think we’re closing to announcing soon…) so, in addition to the sneak peeks on the Official Discussions forum (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=166), here for your reading pleasure are 5 changes / improvements that are coming in Module 9 (drum roll please):
To start off, we’ve made two changes that have been often requested by our players. The first is the shared bank tab (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=174321). All subscribers will be able to open their bank, click on the new tab, and place items from your inventory that are bound to account inside this bank tab (bound to character items, mostly raid items, will not be transferable to this tab). Then any other characters on the account can login and pull any of those items into their inventory (note: each bank tab is shard specific – only characters on Argonnessen can reach the Argonnessen shared bank).
The second popular request was to combine the chat channels (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=174323). In Mod9, all instances of a public area, like the Market, will be routed to the same general tab, and we’ve added an advice and trade channel to each of the public areas as well. You’ll even still be in the public general channel if you enter a dungeon in that area, like the Quickfoot Hideout in the Market. You can customize this in the Options Menu if you don’t want to still hear public chat in the private instance, but the option will now be open to you (and will default to include you in the larger community). This change should help players find groups, get advice and sell things during non-peak hours and just improve overall the general access to other people in the area.
We have also made some great enhancements to our combat system. First, we have updated the targeting system (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=174325) to help out newer players or those who are annoyed by the need to hit tab so often to keep monsters in their focus. When you are close to an object, like a monster, NPC, door, or lever, it will automatically show up in your focus orb as your soft target. In game, your soft target is marked with a light ring, its floating name, and a floating hit points bar, for monsters. As you walk around a space, your soft target changes as you get closer and farther from things. You can make any of the soft targets into a hard target by pressing the tab key or clicking on it, and you can use your old targeting reflexes anytime to achieve exactly the same results as before. If you don’t like the new targeting system, you can toggle it off and on anytime by pressing the G key. We’re very excited to see what you think about it, and look forward to your feedback when it comes out!
In addition to displaying the target’s hit points over their head, we’ve vastly improved the combat feedback system (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=174326). Buffs (and debuffs) applied to your character will display over your head and damage you take will appear in red numerals (like -15) while healing will appear in green (+25). To help identify monster weaknesses and strengths, the damage they take will show up over their head with symbols displaying the damage type (fire, cold, etc.) and a corresponding color that shows the monster’s resistance to that particular damage type. The color types are: purple (weakness), orange (normal), and yellow (resistant). Floating damage can be turned off in the options menu.
Now, you already know that we are raising the level cap to 20 with this release, and we’ve been letting you know about a few exciting enhancements and abilities that will be coming. Check out the Official Discussions forum (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=166) for a recap of what we’ve said already, and here is a preview of some of the spells (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=174328) that are going to be added in Mod9:
Acid Spray (Level: Sor/Wiz 1) A cone of burning acid shoots forth, damaging targets in the area of the spray for 1d4 damage per caster level (max 5d4). A successful Reflex save reduces the damage by half.
Chain Missiles (Level: Sor/Wiz 3) A missile of magical energy darts forth and unerringly strikes its target inflicting 1d4+1 force damage. For every 2 caster levels beyond first you gain an additional missile, up to 10 missiles. After striking your target, the missiles explode outwards, striking other creatures near the primary target.
Prismatic Spray (Level: Sor/Wiz 7) A brilliant cone of multicolored light projects from your finger, blinding weak targets and producing one or more random effects.
Repair Critical Damage, Mass (Level: Sor/Wiz 8) Transmutes the structure of living construct allies to repair 4d8 +1 per caster level damage.
Meteor Swarm (Level: Sor/Wiz 9) Causes four 2-foot-diameter spheres to spring forth and streak in straight lines toward a target, leaving fiery trails of sparks. The meteors explode on impact, dealing fire damage to targets in the area. Unlike most other projectile spells, the caster can arc these meteors if they have no target selected.
Mordenkainen’s Disjunction (Level: Sor/Wiz 9) A powerful force disrupts magical effects on the target, removing ongoing spells that have been cast on a target. You must make a caster level check of 1d20 + your caster level (no maximum) versus 11 + the spell's caster level to remove a spell effect, and your target must make a Will save for each equipped item or all magical properties on them are temporarily disabled.
Power Word: Kill (Level: Sor/Wiz 9) A single word of power is uttered, instantly killing a target creature with 300 or fewer hit points.
Wail of the Banshee (Level: Sor/Wiz 9) A terrible scream kills creatures who hear it. A successful Fortitude save negates this effect.
Summon Monster IX (Level: Clr 9, Sor/Wiz 9) Summons a hezrou to fight for you for a brief time. Casting this spell locks out casting any other Summon Monster spell for 5 minutes.
Energy Drain (Level: Clr 9, Sor/Wiz 9) A black ray of crackling negative energy suppresses the life force of any living creature it strikes, granting an enemy 2d4 negative levels. If the target has as many negative levels as its hit dice or levels, it dies. Each negative level gives a creature a -1 penalty on attack rolls, saves, skill checks, ability checks, and effective level. Negative levels stack.
True Resurrection (Level: Clr 9) Resurrects the target, restores all of the target's hit points, and preserves current spell points.
Heal, Mass (Level: Clr 9) Casts Heal on multiple targets. Channels powerful positive energy into allies to wipe away injury and afflictions, restore 10 hit points per caster level (max 250hp), and remove ability damage and the conditions blinded, confused, dazed, dazzled, deafened, diseased, exhausted, fatigued, feebleminded, insanity, nauseated, and poisoned. Against undead this spell acts as Harm. Undead who make a successful Will save reduce the damage by half.
Implosion (Level: Clr 9) You create a destructive resonance field around you, causing nearby corporeal enemies to collapse in upon themselves, killing them instantly. A successful Fortitude save negates this effect. Every few seconds, an enemy within your aura will be affected by this spell, but you are free to perform other actions while it is active.
We’ve also talked a lot about taking the fight to save Xen’drik to the Devils on their home plane of Shavarath. The Plane of Battle hosts a large wilderness, several dungeons, and a multi-part raid that pits players against a new Pit Fiend, General Horoth, and his spectral shadows, fiends that are feared by devil and mortal alike. Here is a sneak peek into the people and places of Shavarath (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=174329), the Plane of Battle:
http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/81/96/96/97/1549.jpg (http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/33/07/88/63/1546.jpg)
Amrath is the fortress of the Arcanaloth and currently the only safe place in Shavarath.
http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/45/76/51/96/1551.jpg (http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/96/90/16/26/1548.jpg)
General Horoth is feared and respected by denizens of Shavarath as a warrior and a leader.
http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/93/16/58/66/1550.jpg (http://ddoimages.level3.turbine.com/files/34/64/58/49/1547.jpg)
The Arcanaloth have agreed to provide the allies of The Twelve the resources they need to quest into the lands of Shavarath.
There are a lot of great features coming in Module 9 – we know you are eager for it, and we very much appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make the release the best we can! Feel free to join us over in the Official Discussion forum (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=166) to talk about Module 9 features! Again, thanks for all of your support over the past three years and I’ll see you in game!

A 300HP cap on Power Word: Kill? Really? Have you guys not learned from your other Power Words that the cap is just absurdly low?
I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of Weird as a spell, but two mass-instakills would be a bit overpowering.
The shared bank idea is nice. No more mailing rare/expensive items and accidentally gifting it to someone that happens to have a name similar to your mule.
I eagerly await more information, Turbine. It's about time you started talking about M9. Now how about a new preview server?

Thanks for the info, keep it coming or we'll be back to crabby mode in a jiffy.
Consider taking another look at the power word spells. It seems that you're letting PvP concerns impact the PvE game, something we were assured wouldn't happen.

Finally some hype! And good hype at that!
A little unsure if the amount of dungeons is going to be small again, sounds like it. especially for 4 levels.

I love the new spells, I do have to agree that power word: Kill has a low HP in consideration with how high most enemies HD will be in at that lvl. Bank space is very nice.

The shared bank status sounds like a certain magical item someone once brought up in the Hall of Fame. Taking binding to the account level is definitely taking it to the next level along that idea. Nice job... ;)
And I believe this takes care of the greensteel deconstruct and full character respec thread. Outstanding fix.

Read again, Kist. It specifically mentions bound-to-character gear as being ineligible (y'know, most raid gear). They have yet to make any bound-to-account gear drop, though they may with the next mod, or they may make some current gear bind-to-account.
This does nothing to "kill" greensteel deconstruction or respec discussion.

Actually, for a recap, here (http://ddo.enterwiki.net/page/Modules_and_updates) would be a better place. Sadly, Turbine don't have all the Release Notes on their Compendium.
I'd also like to point out the M8 Release Notes are quite incomplete and that many fixes and additions are missing.

I find that unlikely, and while it would alleviate many of the GS decon or respec concerns, it would certainly not kill the discussion.

I find that unlikely, and while it would alleviate many of the GS decon or respec concerns, it would certainly not kill the discussion.
Indeed, because there's still other raid items which are sometimes considered necessary to certain builds.
Let's also take a look at M6's greensteel choices for THF users: greatsword and maul. TWF was even more pooched thanks to the lack of axes, rapier, picks and a few other less optimal weapons (bastard sword, kukri and scimitar come to mind). It took another several months for them to get in gear and give us all of the above.

So will disjunction turn a GS weapon into masterwork? Or your DT armor with Greater false life and Con+6 into plain, no bonus armor?
I'm not saying doom or anything, but I don't play pnp, so I'm curious as to just what this spell will do. It sounds like dispel magic for items, but if it is, I am worried that the mobs will use it the same way they use dispel magic (which works much better for mobs than it does for players.)
Thanks in advance for any further explaination of this spell.

This is great. Looking forward to it, and thanks for the info.
I also do not understand the logic behind Power Word, Kill. 300 hp max means the spell has lilttle to no value. We have also added another instad-death spell with a fortitude saving throw (Wail of the Banshee). Why not make Power Word, Kill a will saving throw: death if they fail, 300 hp (or lower) damage if they save. This keeps the automatic kill for low hp creatures, but makes it useful and compliments FoD and Wail.

RE: Mordenkainen’s Disjunction:
You don't want to lose your items abilities while its active? Simple:
Kill casters first. You should be doing it anyway. Now you have no reason to ignore them.

Yeah, pretty much removes all enchantments from your equipment. I am pretty sure this is permanent in pnp and most people never use it because of that. I can't imagine them making it permanent in DDO... the content that has mobs that cast the spell would be deader than the Abbot.
This was discussed at length some time ago, but i am too lazy to find the post.

I'm pointing out not the discussion, but the obvious intent (no soup for you!). If they were going to make things transferable between characters or invite full character respec, this would have been the kingpin point to lean forward.
This does lean towards reincarnation, however, minus bound gear and used tomes.
Anyway, another thread. I like what is shown.
Lots of good stuff in there Kate!
I'm especially interested in the shared bank and how it will work. Specifically, will anything that is currently bound to character become bound to account or will it only be new items?
Spells - look interesting - is that a sample or all of them? There doesn't seem to be much for clerics in there.
Mob targeting and such sounds like an improvement - hopefully the sift targeting wont change your hard target though, it would be annoying to be casting a spell and have it go off on the wrong mob.
Damage type display - will help us casual people figure out what effects are working and which are not.
MDJ -What is the timer?

I'm lazy, but I believe it's been stated that the disjunction would be temporary for our gear, though it will still hurt to loose it for however long. Which is cool.
And I can't say how much I love the shared bank concept...
Think they'll make the rainments bound to account? I'd actually join the Sub-T runs that have one monk (the leader) and seeking nothing but casters and clerics

seriously though my main will be playable again with many of the spells coming now I really dont regret having a force and repair specced caster. To clear up and use characters as examples from your sig;
Kalari could place non-bound item A in the shared account and Kamari could log in and take the item out of the shared account.
At least that is how I read the information. If I am incorrect I welcome the correction.

Awesome thanks Hendrik man it was a pain in the butt trying to figure out who was holding what this will be great. Though with the cap increase Kal wont be the holder anymore lol mules will be made so I can start playing my wizzy again.
Glad to help out another Sarlonian.
Now with this new tech I hope Turbine can proceed with looking into Guild Banking in the near future.
Have a great Anniversary Weekend Kalari!

"bound to character items, mostly raid items, will not be transferable to this tab"
I think you misunderstand.

Finally some hype! And good hype at that!
A little unsure if the amount of dungeons is going to be small again, sounds like it. especially for 4 levels.
My #1 concern from the start. I predict there will not be enough quests.. for two new levels let alone four... prove me wrong, turbine...
Thank you, seriously. This is the best news all week for me :)

a BIG THANK you! Shared account options REALLY save me time, and was an unexpected plus.
But, two things I simply cannot ignore about the potential updates:
1) Power work Kill's 300 HP cap. Can you name me ONE creature a L 9 spell caster can use on this? I mean NOT going to "Durk's Got a Secret" or so forth? I believe even "Enter The Kolbold"'s normal quest has Kolbolds that exceed 300 HP! Are we expected to find any beings on Shavarrath that do?
Either Fix the Monster's Unnaturally high HP or raise the Cap. 'Nuff said.
2) The "Mastery of Archery's" Ranger Capstone.
I said enough on the official forums. To summarize, ridiculously powered and NON balancing to ALL ranged combatants.
But I give Turbine props to many of the releases here.
A pity the shadow of the above two leave a bittewsweet taste in my mouth.

Doesn't mean that can't add more spells in the L1-6 range that might be useful

A 300HP cap on Power Word: Kill? Really? Have you guys not learned from your other Power Words that the cap is just absurdly low?
It's really more of a Power Word B-Slap..

We have also made some great enhancements to our combat system. First, we have updated the targeting system to help out newer players or those who are annoyed by the need to hit tab so often to keep monsters in their focus. When you are close to an object, like a monster, NPC, door, or lever, it will automatically show up in your focus orb as your soft target.
The UI changes that just happen to make the game more playable with a console controller keep on coming.

Thank you so much for this! The spells look fantastic!
I'm just sad that My Bard (who has an amazing voice...) can't get Wail of the Banshee too. That would have been sweet. :( Oh well, my wizard will be happy, and my cleric.
I wonder if Shadow Walk will have any neat effects in another plane?

It works on all of them. You just have to get them down to 300 hit points first. ;)

To clear up and use characters as examples from your sig;
Kalari could place non-bound item A in the shared account and Kamari could log in and take the item out of the shared account.
At least that is how I read the information. If I am incorrect I welcome the correction.
Well, from kate's message, you can only put "account-bound" items in the shard bank.
So kalari would take a non-bound item to the stone of change, do a ritual to make it account bound (similar to the character binding routine), then put it in the account/shard bank. Kamari can take the item out and use it but cannot pass it on to another player or put it on the AH. Some future items might come as "account-bound" on equip or acquire as well.

Why do my Dev senses tingle and tell me "VaM has not been finished and may not make it into the Mod."?
Because....
Still no mention of a release date, only that 'soon' Turbine will tell us only _what_ VaM is.
Being _told_ what VaM is 'soon' means playing VaM is a LONG way off.
No mention of the number of quests, landscapes or raids.
So all we got was just a few features, that have previously been posted by the forum staff.
All these MONTHS of 'soon' makes me feel like a kid in a long car trip, asking
'are we there yet?'
'Soon'

'Soon'

to hear it from the top. I hope it all goes well, and smooth. Good Luck.
Let's keep DDO around.
I kinda like the buffs where/how they work now, this 'over-the-head' thing, I hope it is innovative and intuitive, or at least toggle-able.

while i dont have a problem with capstone, what rangers realy need is a one shot kill. wiz and sorcs, clerics, rogues and even tempest builds have a chance for one shot kills like pk, finger of death, vorpals for malee but nothing for the true ranged ranger. now there is yet another spell power word kill. what about the ranged ranger?

Why WHY do rangers need a one shot kill ability (other than the Arcane Archer's Arrow of Death)? Do they have them in PnP?

lol was the exact same reaction here. but looks good so far and im really looking forward to mod 9. although a little sad since no estimates to the date it comes out have been made except for the too common "soon". i hope it is worht the wait.
btw some more screen shots of teh new explorer zone might tide some over (me mostly :P) for a few days to get a little more of a look into what is coming up :D

Yes yes. I saved both that one and the one of the fiend to my pictures folder to use as backgrounds. when i did so, they came up a little dark, really couldnt see anything to appreciate the graphics.
when you double click on the picture, in my pictures folder, at the top left is a "fix" tab, click on that and some options pop up on right hands side. (note; i never new this, so sorry to those that did already lol).
What an absolute difference it made, these two screenies look even better than i thought they did.
Well done on the graphics, best ive seen bar none.

Actually, every class already has a similar ability... key your mic, stare at the critter you want to kill, and yell "Die, you mangy &#$*&#$*#(*#$ eater!!!!"
Cost: 0 sp
Effect: Will instantly kill any creature. Creature with more than 0 HP are immune to this effect
