I recently have read some posts about plat farmers and the various solutions to this issue. I do not agree with an eve type of solution, its not bad but i dont think it would work with ddo. The thought was also expressed for a capped amount bought directly from turbine to help new players who want to move a little faster. Thats also ok.
I think a nice solution, which turbine already has in lotro, is the nice amount of class based crafting. Each individual element that is collected leads to a greater item. Say a ranger could make great light armor or be an amazing cook with food that could give roc's strength and a "tasty ham " type of healing. A mage in lotro seems to make dyes which are used to paint and customize armor. I could go on but would rather hear from the group on ideas:). Anyway after making some of the more rare itmes they could be sold on ah for some nice plat or traded obviously. I think a capped farmer would be alot easier to detect then level 1 outlet sellers. Only because to really make use of this in ddo it should be a higher level function giving them some more fun.
So You like? maybe?

Saw this over on ddo.enterwiki.net and can't wait. Not sure how "true" this is though, but it would be awesome.

Full Crafting System
"Implementation of a full crafting system is underway. We don't have a release date yet, but we are working hard on it."
"High level powerful items will certainly be one of the material goals of crafting, but characters will also be able to make all sorts of items that can be used by characters of all levels."
"To begin with, the crafting system will focus on the making of equippable items like weapons, shields, armor, and accessories. Magic arrows and potions certainly may come later." - Piloto, Stratics dev chat
Armor Dyeing
"... we will continue to monitor the demand. Once the crafting system goes live, you will be able to dye parts of your armor and monk outfits pink to your heart's content." - Piloto,

I wouldn't hold my breath for this.

Oh, wait, I already did this rant:

I've made this point before, but the examples keep piling up, and I'm bored at work, so now I'm making a thread of it.

Asking for things from Turbine is like making a deal with the devil, or making a wish of a genie. They may very well grant the literal interpretation of your request, but at the same time miss the target. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, as evidenced by the "Corrupt a Wish: DDO Style" thread. Here's a list of examples to date that I can think of off the top of my head:

Example 1
Players: We want crafting!
Turbine: Granted, but it is at the expense of named loot and raid loot for this mod. Additionally, the crafted goods will be many times better than what exists in the game. I hope you like beating on portals, suckas!

Example 2
Players: We want armor crafting! But this time we're smart... we want armor crafting, but not in a raid and not as a substitute for raid loot.
Turbine: Granted, but it is random. You get the goodies you need by running Stealer of Souls, which is not a raid! Oh, by the way, while it's not a raid, you do have to key for it. This is accomplished in part by running old content that you've already run to death. But it's not a raid, as evidenced by the fact that you can only run six people in it! Have fun doing 2x the runs, suckas! By the way, some of the best effects of this random crafting armor won't stack with stuff you already have, like the chattering ring.

Example 3
Players: TWF AC is getting out of control. S&B is useless.
We'll change things like VoD elite so that 84 AC is the same as 44. This will make AC pointless and bring back the meatwad or hound-shield guy. Never mind that anyone can use the hound shield. Yeah, S&B AC still sucks, but we're back to "AC doesn't matter", which has always been a favorite for you guys, right?

Example 4
Players: We want content!
Here, have some lowbie quests. Also, we added some low- and mid-level outdoor areas.

Example 5
Players: Dammit, we meant we wanted high level content!
Okay, here's some more revamped lowbie stuff. We changed every single raid.

Example 6
Players: Dammit, we meant we wanted high level NEW content!
Sheesh. Here, have two raids. Make sure they keep you entertained for 6 months.

Example 7
Players: I am going to kill you
OKAY! FINE! Here's three quests with four outdoor areas and a non-raid raid and arguably useless crafting. Make sure they keep you entertained for 6 months.

Example 8
Players: Shroud exploit! Waaah!
(flips switch) What Shroud? (Okay, I sort of agree on this one. Let's see how much "waaah" we get next time)

Example 9
Players: We want solo content!
Since our summoned monsters work so well and are so welcomed into groups... here, have a hireling! You can now "solo" stuff!

I'll be back in half an hour, gotta go suit up. New flamesuit just arrived.
