Mod 9 will not be out this week. I'm sure that is a huge surprise.
Mod 9 will also not be released after the two weeks of bonus XP. Well it will, sometime after, but not immediately after.
I know this isn't going to satisfy all of you, but it's the information that I can tell you at the moment. There are great things coming, and we ask that you all continue to be patient as we finish everything up over here. I wish that we could tell you more, and one day soon™ (I had to), we will!
So hang in there, enjoy the anniversary, and keep being awesome. Tolero, myself, and the rest of the team couldn't be happier to be part of this community, and trust me, this game isn't going anywhere but forward.
Just wanted to make sure no one misses it err i got the name wrong *sigh* it was Tarrant.. *hides* how do i edit my post title?

Well.... I knew everyone was hoping that it would be out this weekend, myself included, but am glad that we are at least getting some sort of news. You can't really blame them for not giving us a date because if they did we would all hold them to it and throw a fit when that day came and went. Now if they gave us another character slot to go with the big 2 week XP bonus that would be clutch ;)

This is what I've been saying. I'm looking near the end of March as the release date. I'd rather have them do it right then screw up the mod like they've done so many other times.
I just wish they would give us some more information on what they're working on other than the interview with Kate that was released a few months ago. We've heard next to nothing about what's going to be comming other than Level20 Cap, new raid, and the continuation of the deamonic invasion. Please at least give us a preview within the next week or so.

I'd say don't worry to much about grinding out 1750 on your first toon till you cap. Turns the game into a grind fest before it has to be.

I would rather see them take another month or two and do it right. In my opinion we have not had very good mods in a year now. Mod 7 was alright, I do like Hound and Vision and the revamping of the newbie area even though it came from LoTR is still alright by me as we can't just focus on end game all the time. Mod 8 was a joke to me, you go in run the quests, get what you want on your armor and never go back.
I would like to see more much more end game content. Mod 9 is allot of work for them. All the new spells, the new enhancements, the new levels of items/weapons, the new level cap with enough content to make getting to cap interesting, etc... I can totally understand this mod taking them awhile to have it all together and working correctly. If you think about it there really is allot on their plate.

I'm thinking May, ;-) this week bonus two more weeks after that puts us at the third week of March and "not immediately after that but "soon"" so figure another 3-5 weeks so that's late April, last minute changes a week of preview, week of rollbacks after live beta testing = epic failure, raids dropped due to unforeseen "exploits"....:-) Not that past history every dictates future results but.....

I don't get the big veil of secrecy thing, but I admit it piques my interest a bit to hear about the great things that are in the works.
I think the key for me is just the mod itself. I'm definitely willing to wait for good stuff. But it's harder when you have no idea what that stuff is.
Then again, I can also understand not telling people about unfinished things. You want to reserve the right to change them without consequence while they are still in development.

I figured the silence was a reflection of Turbine scrambling to get the final touches on Mod 9 and just simply not being quite ready yet to release on the anniversary. I'm sure they wanted to get it out this week, but for whatever reason felt that the Mod just wasn't ready for release. Thanks Tarrant for the heads up!

Plain and simple, the most reasonable way to interpet this bonus xp/loot weekend and the 2 weeks of bonus xp to follow is that Turbine is buying time to a major review or announcement date for the release of Mod 9. Note, I did say announcement, so after the 2 weeks of bonus xp, most likely, sometime that week we'll get either an announcement of the release date or at the very least, some previews/write-ups of Mod 9, with an announcement date for release following the next week. So, look for Mod 9 to hit by the end of March. I believe that's what Turbine is shooting for atm.

That also lines up well with my "patience" limit. They hinted at the anniversary, but we all know mods tend to get delayed (in all games not just DDO). But if it gets pushed more than a month, that's a little rough.
So, for me, if its in March, Im fine with it. Just keep feeding me info on it, even if its a little at a time. A little more pace than the current pace would be nice though.
If the mod starts getting far into April, then Im gonna start getting frustrated.
But frankly, all of the forum gabbing about this becomes irrelevant. The quality of the mod itself is what truly matters. If its great, no one will care about any delay, real or percieved and we could really see what DDO is like in a more finished form with more content. If it's poor, prepare for a forum meltdown and a big turnover of many long time players.
If it's in between, we'll probably see what we see today...those that are tired will leave slowly, some new players will come in, many of us will hang around because we like the community as well as the game, and the forums will still be the forums...with a lot of people too addicted to leave but too disappointed to be happy...so they will complain endlessly. You know who you are :p

Well honestly we all knew that since you wouldn't give us 2 weeks of +10%, please tell us something that we don't know and isn't plainly obvious. You have to have set additions already, just don't tell us how they work. Let us try and try for weeks to figure things out, that still gives you plenty of latitude to change things if necessary.
I'm still gonna hold to my 2 months rule of thumb. Just add 2 months to any date they give you. Since they said Anniversary (Feb 28th) I heard Last week of April or First week of May.

I have alot more patience for waiting for the Mod than I will have if we are given a subpar Mod. I intend on waiting out Mod 9 and giving it's day in court...if that is a month from now, I will survive.

So this makes two dates (with give/take periods of 1-3 weeks) given by the DDO team that turned out to be a lie. Tarrant, how many more are we due since you and the DDO team just can't get your work done? Go march into Paiz's office and smash her desk and demand we get some information other than the "This is the best we can give you" pass it off as if we're your lab rats approach.
There's a point where you need to overthrow the leader of something in order to actually make something succeed, and it's getting to that point where you need to override the higher ups for this game. Either that, or get them in here to give a message about the game. Not some stupid State of the Game address, but an actual corporate/project directors report on why this game just keeps getting F***ed.
Even at a lowly retail store, I was able to give customers more information about product availability and when to expect what they were looking or inquiring for than Turbine/DDO team has decided to give to its customers. This is F***ing ridiculous at this point
Mockduck
02-26-2009, 05:59 PM
Since there was never an exact date given for a planned release, just statements about when they would hope to release the mod, there's no "lie." But I'm not going to argue it or get into any kind of debate with people who take every statement as written in stone. If Turbine had said in October "Mod 9 will be released in February", that would be one thing, but saying "We're hoping to release it around the third anniversary" doesn't set any "must meet this exact date or you LIE!" precedent.

I'm guessing there's been a whole lot of, "Ok, got it working, let's try it out. Ok...ok...and now we...oh, fudge!"
...these sorts of fudgy moments tend to muddle release dates.
Or the infrequency of new content releases has gotten them so out of practice they're having trouble remembering how it's done.
Either way.

note the give or take window I put in there. I don't take anything they say as set in stone anymore after they've shown a tendency to not care about what they get published and adhering to it or remembering it.
In all honesty, after the blunder that mod 9's been, I wouldn't want to write anything on DDO on my website if I was to be viewed as a liar later on due to their inadequacy. I bet the websites who wrote articles after speaking with Kate Paiz at (it was gencon right?) don't want to publish anything anymore if the producer for a game is going to tell them something (be recorded and get it written) and they later find out its a crock of excrement including what they tell their own customer base. I didn't take February anniversary as set in stone, but to hear that it won't even be happening in almost a 3 week window of the anniversary? yeah.....
If I recall, didn't you even record Kate originally saying New Years on a DDOcast?

I was taught verbal judo to deal with difficult customers so I can avoid the sales / CSO double speak and see the underlying subtext.
I have been developing SW (and leading a dev team) for some time now (I recorded my first program on a cassette tape, ever seen one of those?) so I understand DEV speak.
Let me translate...
Mod9 has not even reached QAT.
Mod9 features have not been finalized (what will be delayed till later releases).
Mod9 has not got a release date, which is set at least a month in advance (once features are releatively stable). For 4 lvls, at least two months IMO to allow for all that regression testing.
VaM is not ready and may not be ready for some time. Turbine wanted it out sooner but has been unable to do so with the limited resources.
VaM is delayed till Mod10, barring divine intervention.
Turbine believes / knows many will cancel / suspend our subs if Turbine tells us the true details.
I expect Mod9 in late May or June, if we are lucky.
Time to put my sub into hybernation.
