I'd love to see this one: paladins, sorcerors and bards (and clerics) should make better hireling controllers with their higher charisma.
To do this you'd need the charisma stat (or lack thereof) cause your hireling to not follow orders (ignore your command to use abilities), or suffer temporary morale fear (1-3 seconds) when you get overwhelmed with enemies or powerful foes. (higher level)

Interesting idea, but I think they need a lot of improvements in other areas relating to hirelings before we add things that make them behave worse.

Instead of a penalty, a higher charisma could benefit you by allowing you to control more than one moro... err hireling at a time. That way you could have your haste and heal it too. Maybe 2 hirelings at 20 cha, 3 at 30, 4 at 40.

I wouldnt go with the extra hirelings, the 6 max per party should still be the limit.. and 1 per person, it's hard enough to keep 1 alive.
I'd definitely make them more effective and loyal with higher charisma though... to do that maybe some negatives need to be put in for lower charisma.
Some 6 charisma warforged isnt going to make a good leader of even 1.

How about this...
Make the master's charisma affect how many user controlled abilities they get.
You'd just have to put them in order so the most useful spell was the first one.
6-9 charisma - NO user controlled abilities, but they will do stuff on automatic.
10-11 1 ability
12-13 2 abilities
14-15 3 Abilities
16+ 4 abilities
For clerics, the ability #1 for charisma 10+ characters would be their maximum healing spell

I think the charisma stat is already too powerful.
Would it really be fair to have it do 2 things?
As we all know it currently provides a chest loot bonus.
Then to increase it to provide for better/more powerful hirelings, would really just push it over the top.

It provides a loot bonus? thats silly...
Charisma is a stat based on how you can influence other people, a hireling isnt going to like taking "suggestions" from some alien mindset warforged or some smelly sour dwarf.
They're much more likely to take commands from the charismatic paladin, bard or sorceror. (or some other class that has reasonable charisma)
Notice that at 16 charisma (even modified) you have full functionality of your player selected hireling abilities, it's not that high. Later in the game a +4 charisma item is commonplace. and An eagles splendor spell or P-buff wouldnt go astray.
You just want to use it as a DUMP stat and leave it at 6 or 8. **** powergamers! ;)
I say make it make sense when it comes to hirelings, charisma should also change the pricing of hirelings really too, not just your haggle skill.
