View Full Version : Introducing the Forum Hall of Fame!
Tolero
02-24-2009, 01:08 PM
Due to the increasing amount of threads that fall into the "sheer awesome" category, we've created a new forum: Hall of Fame! When a thread achieves a certain level of uberness (this can come from a combination of thread views, replies, ratings, fun density, planetary alignment, and chewing gum), rather than stickying it or letting it get claimed by the dustbin of history, we will move it to the DDO Forums Hall of Fame (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=169) and dub the creator with a Hall of Famer title on the forums.
Note that forum-specific uber-threads - like Off-Topic's "Cupcake Muskateers" or Thelanis's "Battle of the Bards" - are exempt and will remain in their homes!
Congratulations to our Hall of Famers!

If so, I suggest this thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=166202) for reaching 121 pages and becoming an undead without even needing to be necro'd.

Well you can suggest but the final ruling is done by our Hall of Fame committee which is sheltered in a special under-ground bunker deep under the mountain range in western Xen'drik... page count alone doesn't mean the committee will select a thread for hall of fame (I mean there are flame war threads that could run circles around the post and view count of some of the hall of fame ones, but the Cube has his own special place for those ... in his tummy).

"Hall of Fame"ing that thread is like admitting Failure. I don't expect it'll happen.

My nominations and why. Bear in mind I'm biased to threads I've posted in :)
This (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=158010) thread. You have to read a few pages in, but it introduced the concept of 'Person A' and subsequently 'Person Æ', along with some amazing pictorial contributions from Tanka.
This (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=160268) thread. Because so many of the cartoons are very well done.
This (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=153330) thread. Because it introduced +4 tomes (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?p=1792319#post1792319) into the game.
more to come...

Note that forum-specific uber-threads - like Off-Topic's "Cupcake Muskateers" or Thelanis's "Battle of the Bards" - are exempt and will remain in their homes!
Seems to me, regardless of the topic (or specific lack thereof ) that 330,000+ views and 45,000+ replies, all of those since the great Forum purge (and who remembers how many there were before?) might warrant consideration into your Hall.
Hmmm...

Tolero's job (as I understand it from an outside perspective) is the forums more than the game and the link between staff and customers (forum users). By the lack of posts from other developers, they're most likely doing exactly what you want (working on the game).

Is there anything bigger and better than what Chuck Norris began almost 2 years ago concerning Cats and Kittens?
Here's a link to Chuck's Adorable Cat Pictures Megathread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=124705&page=1).
It never got huge, but if it was in the Hall of Fame it could continue to get mega.

We get it. You're ****ed off like the rest of us and would like to hear anything about Module 9, like the rest of us.
I think Tolero got the message two weeks after Module 8. Repeating it won't help it. If she could do anything about it, she would. She's doing her job and that includes managing the forums. If you don't see the importance of that nor understand why she cannot make Module 9 come out earlier no matter how much you complain, let me know. I'll try to explain it to you.

Why do you make it sound like I got a personal vendetta against T ?
My problem is the lack of feedback concerning what is arguably THE most important mod in this games history.
Every day we come to the forums looking for some kind of information, not these feeble attempts at distracting us from what is really important for the players in-game, not the forum locals.

I know and if anyone at Turbine does not know that yet then his/her mental capabilities are so poor that he/she is never going to get it.
At least they are giving us community improvements, which is still valuable. It's not like if choosing which thread goes in the Hall of Fame took any time away from the person in duty of informing us. They are doing that because someone, somewhere thinks that keeping us in the dark is a good idea.
Being negative all the time ain't going to change this.

If I can be called a fanboi, then a lot of people fit in that description as well.
By the way, there is more chance to change anything by being nice and making strong points than by being insultive. People are more likely to listen.

I think that if posters here would be more civilized, we would have got a fixed Abbot much earlier than we did.
Obviously, Turbine have a lot on their side as well by the poor management that they did. Had they had done a better PR job, they would have had less angry players. But, if we would have has expressed ourselves with less anger then perhaps we would have had a more productive discussion with Eladrin.
It's not really interesting to stay in a discussion when you're being called names.

Ah.. such the fan. Afterall, it is the fans that will complain the loudest of all about a game. Why? They don't want it to suck, they want it to be vital and alive.
But borror0 is correct. All of your complaining and name calling won't get the next mod out any faster than what it is going to come as. It does show to the devs that people want the next stuff, but don't want it to suck. So therefore, they spend more time to try to get things right which delay it further. You only add to the cycle.
But the forums do effect game play, much more than what you probably realize. It is amazing how much the little things end up meaning to people.

Why is it that people constantly say that posting about your disconformity with the way the game is being funneled through the development process delays this task ? I really dont get it. Regardless of how many posts or arguments we put forth, they still have to do their job, after all, they are working to create a product the same way any R&D department does in any company.
And yeah I am painfully aware of how the forums influence game play. I am still waiting for the highly requested changes to the broken abbott raid (mod 5 content anyone ?) which apparently will be implemented in mod 9.
I just hope they dont forget to add whatever new instance they come up with as a teleport option.

Let's fix that.
Clanky thinks this is a great idea and is thrilled to get a shout out for the work Lessah and I put in on the MATH and MAYOR RACE. Thank you Tolero (and appropriate committee at Turbine). The "Hall or Famer" title rocks. It is a great reward for me--perhaps the 'casualest of gamers' that plays the game. I have probably spent equal amount of time doing 'game support things' (like those I got credit for in the Hall of Fame) as I have playing the game.
Great idea. Glad to be part of it.

Yeah, it stings a little. I'll admit that his indecypherable warblings probably put that Mayoral thread over the top and into the Hall of Fame. (Well, Memnir put in loads of great work too.) But, take another quick NatGander at the list, Kist! I think you'll see a second Hall of Fame listing in there for the Clankster that predated the Mayoral thread. Booyah! Or, to say it in Natganndish "Yus wuz a grandelp sho ta be sayen. But dohn be tinkin yuz wus allothat entyrle!" Get back on your pole!
