According to the the pdf manual for DDO:
"Select an alignment from the choices in the drop-down menu beneath the Surname field."
I don't have this dropdown when I'm creating a character in the final "looks" UI panel!? What could I be doing wrong? How do I set alignment?
Thanks all.

They redid the character generator not too long ago, so the manual no longer reflects what it actually does. If you select one of the pre-generated paths, I don't think you can change the alignment. You have to actually customize the character. I'm not sure where the alignment choice is now, but it is still there somewhere.

It's the way it was, but he is probably using a path.
If so, which one are you using?

Yes, it's only available if you "roll your own" character.... After 2 weeks of playing, I'm probably not quite ready to do that yet. But makes sense. Thanks for your clues.

If you ever want to give it a try, don't be shy and ask help on the forums. :)

You may soon discover that DDO has more potential build depth than any other two MMOs combined! :) However, this aspect is not for everyone. I'm a hard-core "builder" -- always looking for the next interesting idea. Others do more of "concept characters" and still others focus on tactical and twitch skill, and prefer to mostly copy builds from the forums.
DDO is a great home for all of these folks and I hope it will be for you!
As Borror0 said, the forums are a great place to vet builds. Just make sure to put your thickest skin on first. And be careful to evaluate the advice. I'll put in a plug for Borror0, Impaqt, and Angelus_Dead as good people to listen to. (Of course, I don't take my own advice: most of my playtime right now is on a build Impaqt didn't like very much! Still think he's wrong, but won't be surprised if he's right.)
There's plenty of other great advisors out there, just be sure to put the most faith in people who tell you *why* they recommend doing something a certain way.
