Not to completely contradict you OP, but IMO who cares? It's about quality not quantity. If I wanted I could run around Korthos rounding up every newbie into a new guild and then I would have the biggest and worst guild on the server. I know of a few guilds that have like 5-10 people and they run great together. Then again, I've seen guilds that seem to have gotten so big that no one knows who anyone else is...

Then again, this is just my opinion.

From what I have seen in every MMO you should avoid the largest guild on the server like the plague. The largest is so because they care about being the largest.
It also tends to make grouping in your guild worse than a standard pug run. I like a guild to only have good players in it that why if I invite all guildies I know things will work well.

I can not say this is definately true of their guild but is has been in every "largest" guild I have ever seen on any MMO

Could not agree with you more Brae. I have been a member of large guilds in the past and it really is not for me. Yes you can run with guildies all the time, but IMO it turns out to be little better then pugging. When a guild becomes too large you don't know folks and the comfort level of playing within guild evaporates. I have left guilds in the past based on that. Give me 2 dozen strong capable players over that anyday.

That being said, based on what I have observed online, I would think that the Stormlords are Thelanis' biggest guild.

Your % chance of getting a good players VS the server average depends entirely on the recruiting standards of the guild in question, be it big or small.

Since Legion has a very demanding screening process and that our recruitement policy is based upon skill, then our average player would be considering good to great player in almost every guild, but it is entirely due to our dedication with finding good players in order to be able to short man raids and quests. As Brae said, quality VS quantity is our modo.

I disagree that there are poor players in every guild. I'd agree that there are poor or average players in many guilds. I haven't run into poor players in many of the guilds specifically listed above. There aren't any poor players in my guild.

I'd also agree that being part of the largest is no better than pugging. Tags don't make the player for sure. Some tags do help you get an idea of what you are getting.

I totally agree.

I like being in a large guild for the sake of having many people to play with. But i'm all about quality. If I always have 6 people I can definitely rely on; I won't have any trouble completing any of the raids or quests in the game.

Easiest way is to simply to check the who panel...I don't think it's something you need to ask on the forum.

As for the rest, all successful guilds struggle to find a happy medium between quality and quantity. Become too insular and elitist, you shrink and disappear. Become too accomadating and mass recruit everyone's friend, pretty voice and mom, and quality disappears. Balance is key.

I've run with players from most guilds, including all of the listed elite guilds. I've run into below average players in all of them. However, the chances of it are much lower in certain guilds, especially the small elite ones. Of course, remember that everyone has off days or off quests. Also, remember that different guilds have different purposes.

Small guild advantages: you know everyone and you can more tightly control who enters
Big guild advantages: you have to pug less and have more variety of people to play with

As for the biggest guild, who knows. Check the who panel and sort by guild. It's not perfect, but it's as good a measure as you'll find.

I think most people get the picture , its all about numbers for some people nothing else matters nothing is worth to get booted no one ever gets booted ....Everyone gets invited rangers killing trogs in part 1 with 3 casters braggin they're doing great gets a guild invite ....The portals were taking 60 seconds to take down but the ranger was killing trogs with the 3 casters UBERRRRR...

I even witnessed someone trading a supreme shard for large ingredients in some of those big guilds with their guildies lol ....

Some people doesn't like to play with Legion cause they feel useless while runnin behind. Some people like the conquest and every endless bonus. Legion mostly do the main objective quick and loot. They'll probably be able to do the quest 2 times when another group collect the bonus of the 1st run.

If I had to choose a guild, I'll choose one like Legion. But I also respect the people who take it easy and do everything in a quest. In fact, the quality is a question of opinion depending of your taste. :)

I have to agree on the quality over quanity thing.
The guild I am in is small but we know each other well and work together well. We lowman most raids because of the unknown factor we get from pugs. Then again we will bring friends from other guilds along cause we know and trust them or guilds name.
Being largest guild can be both a benifit and a bad thing, the more ya have the more chances of having a bad player in the mix.

I would say bane has upwards of 75+ active players, since I asked this question days ago and the numbers I was told is 100 somewhat active accounts and at least 50+ play very regularly

I try to play with everyone I can - I tend to enjoy PUGing. Legion runs usually aren't very enjoyable though for me, because most of the time it's silence as they are on vent...unless it's a MANRAM run I guess. Throw a bush on their puzzles though and they speak, heh.

Probably the most enjoyable groups for me, besides my own guild, would be Maelstrom. Healthy mix of entertaining chat, screwing around and skilled completion. Not sure how big they are though.

I have characters in Vagabonds and Bane. I'm not sure about total characters in guild but for avg # logged in at once when I play (~11pm-2am Eastern) I'd say Bane is larger. I don't think either cares about where they rank in size however, just looking to attract players that are good as well as fun to party with.

Wow, from a simple question of What's the biggest guild on the server, to people expressing their personal opinions. GOTTA LOVE THE FORUMS!!!

Well, I'm thinking it is definitely between Storm Lords, IFV, Pestilence and Bane, as they seem to raid a lot on their own and don't seem to pug as much... on avg and everytime you look in the who panel... the list goes on and on.

As my guildmate and friend Ilundel stated, for many of us it's not about the size of the guild, it's about the avg level of quality in the guild.

This was not the original question, but for the OP and anyone else reading, the avg quality of play / player is critical for making teams / raids.

When I'm making a raid team I immediately look to my guild and then friends list and other mechanisms w/in the game to find players I like to run with. Then I post my LFM and watch for either players I know or guilds I know to be solid... not the biggest always. There are some smaller guilds like ATD that I know very well and will accept immediately, even if I don't recognize the toon name. It's their quality of avg player that means the world to me. We all know the top players in some of the larger guilds and I will immediately accept them based on their toon names, not their guild name. In effect, I actually avoid the larger guilds if I dont recognize the name, for a smaller - tighter guild where I don't recognize the name, but know the avg. quality of their guild.

It's great to be in a big guild because you know that you will most likely be treated very well because you are a guildmate, but as mentioned a few posts ago, someone did see people in the same guild trading shards for larges. Hell, I don't know how many larges I've given to guildies and friends for nothing over my time.

When I was in "X" on Thelanis... it was great to be in such a large guild, but a number of us split because (no offence to the brothers that run the guild becaue I have tonnes of respect for them) the quality level was very watered down. We split to form more of a raiding guild, guys that who had already pretty much formed cliques anyways.

As Narizue / Kyrian stated, I would rather be in a guild with a couple dozen of the top, bad ass mofos in the game then be in a guild that is just BIG... and well, I'm there.

The larger your grow, the better chance you will attract some top line players, but the larger you grow, the less controls and the higher chance you will either attract less than top line players or some top line players will fall out of the inner circle because you can only have so many people on a guild raid.

In the end, big is good and bad, but quality is always good.

And the proof to this story is... my shroud speed runs, where I had Maelstrom, DWAT, IFV, Legion, ATD and a couple other guilds represented. I had 12 of us on the team, but if memory serves, we had 7 different guilds on the run.

Big guilds are good, but great players no matter where they are are the best.

Seriously, have you looked at Semy and Pete from Ground? A very small guild, but passing up any of their guys just because they are in a small guild would just be STUPID!.

The one thing we haven't discussed is the little known guild names or those with bad reps or players with bad reps. I generally avoid accepting the little know guild name players, but not nearly as much as I will avoid a player from a guild that I know has a bad rep or a player or players with a bad rep. This is probaby even more critical. I've seen some very good / great players in some guilds that have either a leader and / or some officers that have such bad reps, that have dire effects on that very good to great player.

As a matter of fact, I led a shroud raid saturday night and accepted a player from a guild that Legion DOES NOT GET ALONG WITH AT ALL... But... it's not the whole guild we don't get along with, it's the leader, and in this case is bad enough to literally ruin the guild's rep worse than I ever thought possible. So, in saying that, once again, the guild name (big, small, great or bad) is something that you notice, but a very good to great player can stand out above a Great, Good or even VERY BAD guild rep.

correct as I had many toons in Bane in the past, they are very open to members and have a very large stable of players especially morning/ daytime which many guilds such as maelstrom and Legion the midsize are some day, but all show up for night raids.

We do have quite a few folks in our guild and on a slow night, we have about 20+ members on. I know myself and a few others have all toons anonymous, so the "who's" list wouldn't be accurate.
And it really isn't about numbers, it is about having fun with common people. No strict rules, no need to be uber and have epic gear. JUST HAVE FUN! We have all kinds of guildies from all walks of life, hardcore players and raiders, casual gamers etc...
The great thing about being in a decent sized guild is that when I want to raid raid raid...I can play with player XYZ...and when I just want to relax and BS and have fun I can play with player ABC.
oh yeah and sometimes we have potty mouths and we BS too much. but oh well!

I personally wouldn't mind being a member of a larger guild but when you play on the best server in the game (ours, of course) what does it matter? ;)

The game is ment to be fun, not recruiting for the CIA.

Ones personality and character is what we look for. Sure good players help ya through quests, but we wont put up with egos that many people in this game seem to have.

I would rather fail 1000 quests and have fun doing it, than make the game work and all about the "uber loot".

Sure at the fury we get the job done, but we have a hell of alot of fun doing it!!!!!!

I would just like to say , IFV, IS, Legion and SL are the top guilds on thelanis imo, for quality and quantity. There are also many small guilds that are very good. To each there own , whether you want a larger raiding guild or a smaller buddies guild , DDO offers all flavors!

It is hard running any guild, small or large. so kudos to any guild leaders , great work.

for the record SL has around 110 active players , and is no longer recruiting. Me personally, I like to have the guild at around 100 active , which still gives that closeness between members and good raiding opportunities.

Generally speaking players within guild with a solid name are better than the non guilded players , as they get more support, training and are accountable to the guild officers for their actions.

SL is about fun and friendly , and is not directly concerned with being the most uber of uber. I cannot speak for other guilds.

In regard to the thread title - largest guild , well as i say 110 active members , puts us up there , can't say for sure if its the biggest.

Can't say Ive ever run with ya, but yeah we have some really good players in SL, I concider myself average to just above average. I'm not great or uber but I get by with the gear I have(which is far from the best). Hope to get the chance to run with ya in game.

Once again my dear friend, it comes down to preferences and personalities and bias.

To say that legion goes in the quantity category and not in the quality category would make anyone who knows anything about this game laugh hysterically... plain and simple.

There are many great players in so many of the other guilds, ATD, Ground, Storm Lords, IFV, Bane, Amen, Pestilence, United, DWAT, Inferus Sus, GSI and others that I can't be bothered to name because I'm getting tired, but when all is said... no run goes better than when I have Legion members at my side.

It goes faster, there are no headaches, tonnes of useless chatting about people's mama's and ALWAYS a completion. No matter what pug I can put together with some of the best people online, no one impresses me more than my Legion mates.

I am welcome in many guilds runs and I always appreciate that and them for that, but no matter how good they are... run with a full team of Legion and you will see the **** scariest ***** out there... hands down. If anyone can say that Legion is quantity (umm... no chance... I think we may have 30 in guild) and not about quality either has hate or jealousy for us ( I LIKE THAT ) or are just so out of touch with reality that it's not even worth noticing... well... I'm sure that everyone has a different opinion, either way it was not the question. I would just like to thank everyone who answered my question; especially Ministry (**** was that a surprise:D) and Raidon, my guild leader. Both outstanding people who have land-marked this game. Does that make me a Legion Fan-boi? No...Storm Lord? Yes, but I am kind of biased in that regard;)

...and for all those who took this thread as an excuse to put down DARPA....Don't think for a second that just because he's not in my guild anymore that I won't shadow-jump you when you least expect it:cool:

Just about every answer to every topic this post has sub-spawned, outside the aspect of what guild is numerically the largest, are so laden with personal biases as to be irrelevant. Which guilds/players are "quality" and which guilds/players are not depend on a person's own internal calculus, and no two people will judge the same way. Play the game enough to form your own opinions about things - don't rely on what other people may tell you. If you need others to spoon-feed you what they think in order to either frame your own opinions or to justify the ones you already have - all I can say is I hope you find a good shepherd in life because you will always just be another sheep in the flock.


As for the guild with the most members... pop open the Who panel, and watch for a few days. It ain't rocket science...

Rebutle; Any guild can be quality no matter how many people are in that guild, find people you get along with... who you can share a laugh with or make fun of, thats what makes this game fun and enjoyable. Sometimes Im in the mood to run quests 5 levels above the quest reccomendation in 5 minutes... and sometimes I like running things solo, or doing a 45 minute WW run with new players. Its the great thing about this game, group with who you want when you want... heck they dont even have to be in your guild.

As for your statements on Legion, I concur. I don't think I've ever heard them mentioned for 'quantity' but I often do for 'quality'.

To the person that said that there are average and poor players in every guild (of size I take it), I would disagree. I could name a few off the top of my head that I've NEVER seen or heard anything that would indicate that.


...and I was going to point out that the OP asked a question about size (hey, size sometimes matters!), not quality etc. It's like someone asking about how much a new car costs in Atlanta and people start debating the Euro vs the Dollar. :)

I know Legion has a skills based enrollment, but I know for a fact that I personally have booted more members for their attitudes clashing than their skills. Yet skills and attitude, can go hand and hand. If you were a total newb in a guild such as Legion, Pestilence, Inferus Sus, Heavens fury, etc.....you wouldn't have much fun, and soon you'd have a bad attitude. It's all in the play style and fit.

I actually think its interesting to know the general # of active player in the guilds, but for anyone who plays much its very obvious who the 2-3 largest active guilds are, how this turned into #of active = > < talent is a product of competition. I find the large guild spend more time trying to sit around and figure out who is gonna run a raid.. by the time they have it all worked out we already pugged the last couple spots or completed if we have #s.... its all what ya like

Just looking at the runs I was in and not things everyone else was doing:
Vision on hard twice (23 min each) and normal once (17 min)
Hound 4 times on hard (5-6 min each)
Shroud 3 times on hard (times 40,40,47) and normal twice (30,35)
We're the only guild in the game that consistently plays at this level. Even Pestilence who's core are former Legion members do not yet have the bench strength to pull this off.

Agreed. Drama control is our main focus. We've recently declined 4 people. 3 were outstanding players and one was a mix of average play and clashing personality.

Deval: I would rather fail 1000 quests and have fun doing it, than make the game work and all about the "uber loot".
I would rather have my ballz pounded flat with a wooden mallet than fail 1000 quests.

Depends who you run with. Some Legion folks stick to Vent and it's quiet for the rest. Sometimes though, puggers will get flooded with ingame newb voice maniacs. On 80's night, you'll get serenaded by drunken guys singing Tiffany, Bohemian Rhapsody and TV Theme Songs. In all cases, we're having a blast in Vent.

its not fair to bash legion because of a few ultra arrogants. i run with those guys semi regular and while i think the bragging has no place, they are friendly people who never have a problem guiding new players through something.... they just want to know that yer inexperienced so they can monitor and control yer screw ups. I believe I've run with a few times Braegan and a few other Legionairs. While comepared to some I'm not leet, nor uber. I'm a causual gamer do to RL, but I hold my own. Would be nice to get more in, but it just doesn't seem to happen for me. Ohwell, it gives me something to look forward to doing gaurunteed 2 nights a week. Working toward getting better loot for my toons as they are all lacking.

No bloodstones
No Girdles
No Chaos Gaurds
Very little GS items(average 2 per main toon which number 4)
No real uber loot, sure i got some vorps, disruptors, smiters, banishers but they are +3 or lower weapons. Now if the loot tables weren't so screwed up to begin with after the first week a new mod launches(which in my view, Mod launches should be on fridays not mondays so casual gamers can get an equal chance at the good **** too), myself and many others would have better gear. But ohwell, a gaming I shall go, a gaming I shall go because I like this game anyways.

We certainly have the accolades that show we are the best guild in the game and not just in New Xoriat. You can call it ego, I call it facts. Take Monday for example. Just looking at the runs I was in and not things everyone else was doing:
Vision on hard twice (23 min each) and normal once (17 min)
Hound 4 times on hard (5-6 min each)
Shroud 3 times on hard (times 40,40,47) and normal twice (30,35)
We're the only guild in the game that consistently plays at this level.

I know I've been on times when I've run 5 Shrouds (other folks with more flagged characters run more) with a few Titans and maybe a Hound or VoD and a bunch of Reavers. And that's usually something like once a week.

I'd think most guilds that have ~25 or more active players (with likely 10 characters each) would run a similar schedule as most people's timers will be fairly synchronised.

Storm Lords, Legion, IFV, Golden Night, Bane, Maelstrom and many others I'm sure could easily throw together over 200 capped characters in any of them. Mercs Only could field that many with just Trissa.


I dunno though, I wouldn't personally class any of the guilds in DDO as "large." most MMO guilds I've experienced (EQ, WoW, SWG, CoX) that have been large have player numbers (not characters) into the hundreds and more.

I think its a benefit to DDO that guilds are a lot more personable.

I'm talking worldwide. I do know of Free Companions on Khyber and have a lot of respect for them. They are serious about raiding like we are. But to my knowledge, we're the only one's the consistently knockout Vision and Shroud on Hard and with the times I stated and not skipping Shrines, Chests, etc.

I'd really like to see some of the elite players pidgeon holed in the other lesser servers come over and join Legion. I've spent some time on the other servers and there's just too much mamby pamby nonsense and drama. Please come over and send me a PM. We'll power-favor you to get 32 pt build then help you level and gear up. No wannabees though please. I'd like to see a top guild grab their best players and give me a shout and see what kind of mayhem we can help you cause over here in New Xoriat.

If I had a copper piece for every time a player posted their disdain for me displaying my trophies in my sig I'd be rich. Oh wait, I am rich. Anyway, I see nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments. Certainly RL accomplishments are the only important ones, but we're playing a game, so you shouldn't get butt-hurt at someone sharing their moments of personal in-game satisfaction, whether thats soloing Vision or getting your first toon to 1750 favor. Don't quash the fun and excitement. And as far as nobody caring, you at least seemed to care enough to read my sig and post about it. Instead of the sour grapes attitude, why not use it to challenge yourself to do something you can be proud of.

Bane doesn't seem that large to me, probably because more than one member has multiple (full) accounts but we do usually have a solid regular player base on nightly.

And while size is useful at times (like for putting together an all-guild raid), quantity is undoubtedly the most important factor if you're looking to join a guild. I don't know about the other guild's recruiting processes but if you get a blind tell from someone you don't know asking you to join their guild, I'd stay far away from them! As for Bane's recruiting criteria, I can assure you (guild) size isn't a factor. Ahem. In my opinion, probably our most important criteria is your attitude and compatibility with other guild members. If you've got a crappy attitude and are a **** in general, you probably wouldn't be a good fit. But players who play for fun and ARE fun we like! I always say you can grow your game skills but you can't grow a personality if you don't already have one.


In the end, it really is all about fun. It's a game, isn't it? So if you want quality (but not uber-obsessed) players, like dirty jokes and swearing and are over 18 (because we're dirty) then quest with Bane! :D

Actually, it was Mekkah and Deval that threw the first punches in this thread. Ministry and the legions of Legionniares (and guildies) batted back. You just fanned the flames a little more.

Yes, Legion has some issue players. Most medium sized guilds probably have a few. BUT THE MAJORITY of Legion are really nice decent people who on occasion NEED TO SLOW DOWN IN MY TS RUNS... (please?) DO I play with them all the time? No. But most of them I have met are far more flexible and nice than you realise. Even Ministry, who used to terrify me until he helped me on a TS quandry. They REALLY know the game well, and if I have questions or issues, they are usually the first people in game I ask.

I dunno, maybe it's my personality, I seem to get along with them just fine. Do I agree with their playstyle? NO. But I am not in their guild. BUt I AM their friends.

You can complain about attitudes maybe but you cannot disparage their results.

Legion has done more for reputation, records, and accomplishments than any other guild on this server. They have earned respect and recognition for some pretty amazing play. They certainly have more name recognition than any other guild and definitely any single player (with a couple of possible exceptions) on the server.

I have made many runs with Legion people and have to say I learned a lot. You might too, if...

They might come off as arrogant sometimes, (sorry guys) but they have the skills and knowledge to back it up.

They are a huge asset to the community and a ton of fun once you get to know them. I have enjoyed running with them in raids and hope to do so again soon.

Ministry and gang, I salute you!

Firstly I can't believe this thread is still active :eek::confused: So I thought as the OP I should say something...

Bane doesn't seem that large to me, probably because more than one member has multiple (full) accounts but we do usually have a solid regular player base on nightly.

And while size is useful at times (like for putting together an all-guild raid), quantity is undoubtedly the most important factor if you're looking to join a guild. I don't know about the other guild's recruiting processes but if you get a blind tell from someone you don't know asking you to join their guild, I'd stay far away from them! As for Bane's recruiting criteria, I can assure you (guild) size isn't a factor. Ahem. In my opinion, probably our most important criteria is your attitude and compatibility with other guild members. If you've got a crappy attitude and are a **** in general, you probably wouldn't be a good fit. But players who play for fun and ARE fun we like! I always say you can grow your game skills but you can't grow a personality if you don't already have one.


In the end, it really is all about fun. It's a game, isn't it? So if you want quality (but not uber-obsessed) players, like dirty jokes and swearing and are over 18 (because we're dirty) then quest with Bane! :D

Remember kids, your coolness factor and ingame skill is directly correlated to the amount you post on the forums and get other posters to give you the verbal reach-around. Just find your place in the circle and work the person to your left...you'll be "uber" in no time.

I think we are less "touchy" (interesting word in light of your interest in reach arounds) and more amused. In our amusement we reply and a conversation evolves. I know it is a strange concept for a conversation to start on one topic and then move to a different topic. Perhaps that is why people enjoy running with Legion as we don't hold a conversation to the "starting point." The master of that would have to be Scars, imo, but it sure makes for entertaining times.

As for Mr. Nigel, I am sorry that you have had bad experiences with Legion. We are all bad people, uninteresting, unhelpful, unkind and un-evolved (Womps knuckles still drag on the ground!) please continue to avoid us in game and I look forward to your continued avoidance of reading and replying to our posts. Actually this all started with me having a go at Ministry.

However we met up in game and sorted it out. (i think we were both deaf after all the yelling at one another), but sorted it out.

If you have a problem with a legion member (or anyone else) have it out in the right place, and not on the forums.

I admitted this was the wrong place to do it.

I respect legion, partly yes they are good players, but more importantly to me, they are good people. (from my experiences). Also having ex guildies in legion now that know what sort of person I am does help break the ice i will admit.

Sometimes good friends can come out of having a huge fight with one another.

These forums are all just words, words mean nothing, have it out in game you will feel much better and its gets sorted out a hell of alot quicker.


Come on move onto the next subject, storm lords would be the biggest guild, but is this important, not at all.

Play the game for YOUR reasons, and your reasons alone.

The most important thing to remember (and yes I forget at times), IS THAT IT IS JUST A GAME!

UNITE!, and keep Thelanis the best DDO server.

Anyway, I see nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments. Certainly RL accomplishments are the only important ones, but we're playing a game, so you shouldn't get butt-hurt at someone sharing their moments of personal in-game satisfaction, whether thats soloing Vision or getting your first toon to 1750 favor. Don't quash the fun and excitement. And as far as nobody caring, you at least seemed to care enough to read my sig and post about it. Instead of the sour grapes attitude, why not use it to challenge yourself to do something you can be proud of.

i dont hate you at all. and there is nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments. there's even nothing wrong with pasting everything you've ever done on yer bio or sig. but thats not straight up bragging like im talking about. there is an attitude with some members of yer guild that if yer not one of us, ye suck. these people (and they're not by any means exclusive to legion) use terms like "have nots" to describe people not geared to the **** or who just dont use certain strategies. (any who follow my posts[not that any do] know that none of my toons use stat damagers... ever. i think its a broken system and personally avoid them for that.) but instead of accepting these things, people are termed as whiny "have nots" and dismissed.

Maybe i singled out yer guild. was not meant to be a guild wide comment. its more of a criticism to the serious gamer who has no time for the casual gamer and is full of attitude. I abhor attitude problems and get a little nit picky and offensive at times when i encounter them. (ive quit 4 jobs over it in rl :) )

But as Braegan says , Yes you 'know what you are geeting' as you put it but I would add to a certain %, your odds of getting a top player from guilds are better with smaller guilds that of course the huge 1000 guild member one.

Im guessing someone True Rezzed it. That glib remark being said... Guilds come and guilds go. Changes occur and factions split off. That's how you get some of the better guilds. They go from huge guilds with SOME awsome players to smaller guilds with ALL awsome players.

I tend to look more at players myself these days. Been around since BETA (and yes Ive showered) and, with rare exceptions, players remain more of a constant then guilds do. My own guild has retained it's core membership since day one. Of that core membership none have left for other guilds. They are either still here or have left the game. We retain an excellent relationship with the majority of the players in game and most guilds. We are well known for getting things done, even if it isnt how others think we should do it.

The most important thing? DWAT, and many of the small to medium guilds, TEACH new members and support them. This is not to say large guilds do not. Some of them do. With a larger guild you're mathematically guarenteed to have more chances to have selfish players who only joined that large elite guild for themselves. In a smaller guild, so long as they have solid core values and leadership, you don't see that and when you do have members like that you tend to see them get a cold shoulder til they leave.

Long story short. Play to the best of your ability and be willing to learn and teach. Avoid the rest of the garbage.
