How hard would it be to have your icon to show up as something other than your main class? (that is a real question)

I was thinking it would be cool to be able to choose icons that describe your character rather than your main class.

Tank (battleclerics, war wizards can pick this one)
Intimitank
Traprouge
Healer
Assassin
Instadeath caster
Fire, acid spec caster
warchanter

for example

It would just be nice to be able to hide your true class make up if you choose. And be helpful for some battle cleric, warmage, assassins, to actually get groups without confusion.

just my two cps.

as in be a fighter/rogue with a fighter icon and change it to a rogue icon?
Or have different icons for every class?
I like both ideas, but I dont know if Turbine would update something like class icons since they only really put in quests/enhacements for updates, but i'd like to see more choices for icons in game.

exactly.
I just think you could easily come up with some icons that would more reflect what the character can do, than just what his or her major class is.

I support this idea, partly. I can see the good of it. for instance fighter/rogues who are mostly rogue, but picked fighter for level one for instance. Instantly let potential group leaders know "I can pick locks/disable devices".

I can also see potential problems with it. For instance, in the past I ran into an in-game aditude of "If your a level 8 sorc, never ever ever have anything but buffs and crowd control spells". I got booted from many teams for dareing to do such simple stuff as cast a scorching ray to take down the hobgoblin cleric that's messing up the party. other parties would boot me the instant they learned that I took fireball for my first 3rd level spell, and not haste. Or that I didn't have the funds (or inclination) to completly replace all my spells for their convenience, as well as all my feats and enhancements. This idea would give such people that do that even more ease picking out the damage dealer casters and avoiding them like the plague. Non-standard 'gimp' builds would also be avoided, even if the build works really well. People tend to label a build as 'gimp' if it doesn't min/max to reach the absolute peak performance in an area.

Ok, so I get a bit cranky about that subject.

I definitely support the idea of more and different icons, but I would rather a player not choose them but they were given as an achievement or something along those lines

Even without new icons, I have always been a supporter of being able to chose wich class icon shows up in the party list. There are just times (and builds) where the class that gets choosen for you is not reflective of your duty for that party (or build).

I don't know if this would work technically, but I have long thought this would be how I would do it:

Create a box on the Character Sheet next to where levels are listed.

Allow the player to leave the default class icon, or...

Allow the player to drag any icon to the box which could be placed in a hotbar.

So a Sorc could draw a spell icon, like FW or Hold Monster or Haste, to indicate their specialty.

A Cleric could pull over a Daxe. You wouldn't have to call yourself 'Noheals' anymore.

A bard could pull over his Spellsinger, Rage, or Virtuoso (LOL) icon.

A rogue splash could pull over his DD icon, or not as the case may be.

What ever you pull over would show the party how you built/play your toon.

Yeah it would be nice for that 12clr/2pally/2fighter guy to have the fighter icon displayed since he doesn't plan on healing anyone other then himself.

Maybe they can make a gimp icon and an uber icon as well....

haha gimp Icon. I have a few toons I could put that on. Or maybe instead of gimp, a picture of a mule since that's what they've been relegated to.

Still like this idea.

How about starting this Thread over in the Suggestions forum?

I also believe its LONG overdue!
Should be 3 or 4 selectable class Icons depending on Character level makeup.
Interchangable whenever wanted, its like a mini Avatar.
Fire Sorc? Flaming Sorcerer Icon, Hmmm... Gonna respec Enhancements for Electric.
Don't forget to Pick that Alternate icon!
Or perhaps it'll change itself depending on enhancement choices, which already reflect multiclasses because of offered choices of Enhancement.
