I understand that Tumble is a manually used skill; ie., I hold CTRL and a direction to use it. I am building a rogue, and took Tumble for the first 2 levels, but am starting to wonder how useful it actually is in game; especially given the fact that I have only used it a few times. Is it a necessary skill? Also, my main playing time is going to be with my friend and we are duo rogues -- we likely won't do a lot of larger group or raid stuff.
Thanks in advance!

If your character is under melee pressure (and others in your party are too, making life difficult for your party's Cleric), using Tumble means the mob trying to hit you has to move to do so. When the mob is in motion, it receives a -2 To-Hit. If you have the Mobility Feat, then your A/C, while Tumbling, is increased by 4.

generally tumble is most useful in:
1. reaver's fate - reduce falling damage
2. shroud - fast sp regeneration from trees and pools

I find tumble pretty useful on my rogue.
Tumble reduces damage taken from falls, so in many cases when I want to escape an attacker I ll leap off a nearby ledge and take no damage (if your tumble is high enuff). Yeah u can jump off and feather fall down but in some cases the lingering fall just makes you a target for that much longer. The AC benefit was already mentioned and just for the benefit off being able to retreat or dive to the side faster and further than someone without tumble..... for twitch gamers the tactical benefit is very valuable.
And when your tumble is 34 u start to look really cool :)

You just need enough so you can roll with your armor on.
The most useful thing about Tumble is to keep moving after suffering a speed debuff like:
Sicken
Slow
Crippling
Defiance
Wading
Devil Chains
Hamstring
However, it is unknown if that is a feature the devs enjoy, so they might remove it someday.
