Well i played the PnP version of DnD, we never got so deep in that i learned all there is two know. And i already have a lvl 3 fighter on the very first sever. But my question are as fallows.
1. i know i need favor of 400 to unlock drow and 1750 to get +32 skill points. but how do i earn favor where do i go what quest do i do. and how do i know how much favor i have?
2. I dont want to play a wizard or sorce, b4 i unlock the drow becasue of their cool racials, but witch one is the better one to play for damage vs. self healing.
3. Im not sure how things work, but i have been sort of running around met a pirate girl went to some cove, is stormreach the main city and everything else more or less just explorable areas? if there is more to this let me know?
4. Why is it when i make a caracter..fighters recive an very good solo rating and battle clr get excellect. cause i have a battle clr to, and the only reason i dont die is becasue i heal myself, but with my fighter i might drink one potion of heal the entire time i am running swers or some dungon..where with my clr i get hit more, and have to self cast heals to keep from dieing?
5. Why do things cost so much moeny on the auction house, full plate cost 1000 plat or even 6000 plat. swords range from 500g to 9000 or more plat for lvls 1-3 items. i saw a few lvl 16 things and they were 40000 plat.. and quests and selling off garbage only gets me so much? witch is not enough.
6. Why is it the Auctions i have posted are not selling when they are half to 3/4ths the price other ppl are posting for? if it wasnt for running into some nice ppl who saw me for the newb i was. i wouldnt have any of the gear i have? they actually bought me stuff off the AH best they could get for my lvl, and gave it to me i was humbled? and i their debt.
any answers to these massive qustions would be most helpfull. and thank you all for your time.

There is a button on your main bar at the top of you screen that looks like a 4 pointed star. Hit that and it wil bring up the quest list. There should be another tab that shows your total favour.
2. I dont want to play a wizard or sorce, b4 i unlock the drow becasue of their cool racials, but witch one is the better one to play for damage vs. self healing.
Warforged are healed by repair spells that wizards and sorcerers get. You may want to try that. At low levels paladins and clerics are good for self healing.
3. Im not sure how things work, but i have been sort of running around met a pirate girl went to some cove, is stormreach the main city and everything else more or less just explorable areas? if there is more to this let me know?
Essentially yes. But there are a lot of explorable areas. Some safe areas outside of Stormreach include; Meridia, Zawabi's Refuge and the Necropolis.
A low level cleric can get almost the same AC as a low level fighter (except tower shields). If you have the right gear and your cleric really is a battle cleric (has high strength and attack bonus increasing items/spells) then you should be finding them similar at the very low levels. In case you are, don't be using tower shields without having the feat.
Money gets more plentiful once you get higher levels. On normal quests at the level 1-5 will be easy enough to finish without having all the best gear. Make sure you party with other people occasionally this makes quests so much easier and faster lowering your individual resource requirements and will show you more areas of how the game works. Don't be afraid to say to people that you are new. (PS. Khyber is the best server. If you are on Khyber send a pm to Steeles)
Nobody wants low level gear unless it is very good for low level characters e.g a weapon that is +1 of pure good is much much better than a +2 weapon. Also many players have been here for a while and are able to send their characters items for low level and are usually up to level 5 or 6 within a few days so they do not need very low level items for long enough to worry about buyin any.
any answers to these massive qustions would be most helpfull. and thank you all for your time.
I hope that helps a bit.

1. All quests give favor, and each difficulty level completed ups your favor from that quest, to see how much favor you have and how much favor you have achieved for each quest click on the star icon, and you will have a list of quests and what difficulty you have finished each on and your total
2.To be honest these days the best wizards are WF because they have self healing built in. A sorc can use UMD better because it is a charisma based skill and sorcs tend to have high charisma.
3.Yes stormreach is the main city, but at the higher levels there are other staging areas like the desert oasis, gianthold, the Necropolis, Meridia in the vale of twilight, and the Reavers refuge. All are smaller, but contain taverns, mailboxes, auction houses, bankers and vendors.
4. Because you can self heal with a cleric without using resources, that is really the only difference
5.Auction house values can be a little skewed, and at the lower levels unless you are gifting your lowbie cash you will not be able to buy much. As you get to higher level you will sell stuff for more, and you will learn the meaning of loot runs for cash
6.Generally those prices were not very realistic so being 3/4 of unrealistic inst helping you. Also it has to be something people want, and alwasy have a buyout

1. i know i need favor of 400 to unlock drow and 1750 to get +32 skill points. but how do i earn favor where do i go what quest do i do. and how do i know how much favor i have?
When ever you complete a quest for the first time, you gain favor for it. You receive additional favor for a quest for finishing it on hard and elite. If you get 2 Favor from the quest on normal, you will get 4 on hard and 6 on elite, capping the quest at 6 Favor for which ever faction sponsored the quest.
2. I dont want to play a wizard or sorce, b4 i unlock the drow becasue of their cool racials, but witch one is the better one to play for damage vs. self healing.
Neither of them are exceptionally good at self healing unless you invest heavily into consumables. A Warforged Wizard is able to self heal by spells (Repair 'X' Damage). Many sorcerers have UMD as a cross class skill to use Heal scrolls, but it's rather money dependent to do so.
3. Im not sure how things work, but i have been sort of running around met a pirate girl went to some cove, is stormreach the main city and everything else more or less just explorable areas? if there is more to this let me know?
Stormreach is the main 'hub' of the game. There are a few other 'City' areas, but none as expansive.
It depends on how you play the character. A cleric wears plate armor like most low level fighters, and that needs only 12 dex to fill the bonus, so long as they have a decent shield, they should do fine. Cleric's also gain offensive spells they can cast on their targets to cause them damage, to make them lie prone to be easy targets, and to heal and buff themselves.
The Auction house is a poor way to price items. You're best bet is to just play as you are. Items will come as you do more quests and explore the game.
A lot of people just dump their junk on the Auction house, very little of what goes up there actually sells. The best rule of thumb for any sort of item going for auction, price it more than what a vendor will give you for it, but if it's a tradeable item, do so instead of putting it on the Auction house

I can't answer all of your questions but i can answer a couple of them.
1) You gain favor with every quest you run. The higher the difficulty, the more favor it is worth, though you can only get favor for a quest once on each difficulty. I can't remember exactly which tab, but you can check how much favor you have and how much you need in the tabs at the top of your game screen.
2) Stormreach is the main city in the game. All other areas are explorable areas.
unfortunately i can't answer the rest of your questions because i honestly don't know the answers.
I hope this helped a little bit.
raistlinmajere
1 you get favor each time you do a quest for the first time on a dificulty, when you do elite then that is all the favor you can get from that quest, you can click on your quest list and click between the quest list and the favor list
2 the only way you can self heal is if you play a wiz/sorc warforged, but other than that the wiz gets more spells and can change them easily at tavern or shrine, the sorc gets more sp but less spells and has to pay a trainer to change spells out
3 stormreach breaks down into 6 "citys" korthos village, harbor, market place, house p, house d, house j and house k and then there are some explorer areas scatered around from there that you will learn as you play
4 this will change the more you play depending on your play style particularly at higher levels when your cleric spells change
5 things cost so much because of there rare value people can charge it cause people will pay, but until you get to higher levels your just gona be broke :) i recomend finding and joining a guild, they will take care of you and help you learn the game faster
6 the reasons your not selling anything is because the stuff your posting isnt wanted by people at that time, sometimes thing are more popular than other times, but make sure the stuff your selling isnt stuff thats not as easy to come by

run quests, on normal hard and elite, or run as many quests as possible, there is no right or wrong way to gain favor, just how you want to do it.
2. I dont want to play a wizard or sorce, b4 i unlock the drow becasue of their cool racials, but witch one is the better one to play for damage vs. self healing.
how do you mean self healing? between wizard and sorc? if you run a warforged a sorc can heal him self damage everything and still have more to spare. my first character was a halfling wizard who has full dragon marks, so to sum up this answer. Nuke bot is sorc, choice in spells is a wizard. sorcs also have less feats than a wizard
3. Im not sure how things work, but i have been sort of running around met a pirate girl went to some cove, is stormreach the main city and everything else more or less just explorable areas? if there is more to this let me know?
no you pretty much get the just of it. korthos island is to let you learn and kind of get the basic mechanics of the game. then you are allowed in stormreach. if you dont know where a quest is, just ask and most people will tell you house... or in the market place. honestly if you ask, most people will do one of two things, ask if your a newb, or if you have been drinking, answer either and it will be fine lol!
4. Why is it when i make a caracter..fighters recive an very good solo rating and battle clr get excellect. cause i have a battle clr to, and the only reason i dont die is becasue i heal myself, but with my fighter i might drink one potion of heal the entire time i am running swers or some dungon..where with my clr i get hit more, and have to self cast heals to keep from dieing?
will leave this to the battle clerics, but i imagine because no matter what a fighter will need to depend on how they are at higher levels.
5. Why do things cost so much moeny on the auction house, full plate cost 1000 plat or even 6000 plat. swords range from 500g to 9000 or more plat for lvls 1-3 items. i saw a few lvl 16 things and they were 40000 plat.. and quests and selling off garbage only gets me so much? witch is not enough.
inflation, lol! honestly some people when they make new characters, like to what what is called "twinking" and it essentially means that they are spending money one of their high level characters make to fund and sponsor the new lowbie. so some weapons and armor go for lowbies is worth some cash.
6. Why is it the Auctions i have posted are not selling when they are half to 3/4ths the price other ppl are posting for? if it wasnt for running into some nice ppl who saw me for the newb i was. i wouldnt have any of the gear i have? they actually bought me stuff off the AH best they could get for my lvl, and gave it to me i was humbled? and i their debt.
because people are weird, and dont understand when they see a good deal, or maybe that item is just not in demand at the moment. but little things can effect sales value of some auction items in weapons and the like, but honestly i still dont have a full grasp on this and i have almost 3 capped toons lol!

Thanks for the answers guys, first off now i know where to find the favor tab.
second at least i am not the only one who thinks those prices were a bit ********.
thrid. i played world of warcraft for four yeares. so this is a major chance. everything is loopty loop diffrent.
PnP DnD never seemed so complicated.
but then again when i ran a long campaign i may have only ever gotten to lvl 4. before the campaign ended. and we started a new one. and re-rolled caracters.
and we finally started one that were were going to take our caracters to dragon lvl, but ppl moved and other stuff happend so it all ended one night.
between my friends and i we had every DnD book that had come out since their parents played. we had books from 1980 just sortly after the game came out. witch was around 1977.
then we started running PnP, call of cathulu and star wars, and world of warcraft campaigns. but it just wasnt DnD.

If you can get your group of friends to play D&D online with you, it will probably end up being the best online game you've ever played. There are lots of nuances and gotchas in D&D online. They are sure to bite you at least a time or two. But don't sweat the small stuff. Plan on rerolling after about level 6 once you got a feel for the game. I don't think anybody (even a PnP vet) gets it quite right on their first character.
WoW is no substitute for old school PnP games. Not even close. DDO gets close though.

I would say the old pnp vets are the ones that have to reroll most often when they start.:D

I would also suggest looking into your server mentor program. Many people there would be more than willing to give some advice and help you get started. If you are on Thelanis feel free to send either a PM through the forums or contact me through any of my alts in game.

I agree with Gorlock about the server mentor program. Also most servers (although not all) have a help channel that is monitored by veteran players from that server. I know the one on Khyber is extremely active.
If you wish to join the help channel type
/joinchannel help
then you just need to type /1 before you message to speak in channel. Assuming it is your first custom user channel.
Welcome to Stormreach :)

Well, first off, i am PnP vet sort of, i played with my friends for at least 7 years. not the 1977 vets who still play.
And you were right about one think i keep making new toons and testing them out, and if i dont think i got their stats right i re-do em.
I made a Soccere, or however u spell that. started with 230 SP, and 30 HP, i was like not bad. but went into my first dungon on easy..and took a beating. What was worse is that casting spells is rediculous hard..HOW THE F do you do it right?
Also the damage the spells did was laughable, i mean i would either miss alot or not do anthing. i burned righ though the SP and had to use my quater staff to beat the bad guys down. witch almost ended in me dieing. What did i do wrong.
Also i set up a battle clr, put even number points into WIS, CON, STG, DEX, he was doing well becasue of that self heal, but then it went all wrong when i went to dule weilding, he couldnt hit he was missing alot, i was having to heal more often. i didnt know what was up? was i reciving some sort of negitive to my hit for DW weapons.
Also my current fighter is set up the best, considering it was one of the main classes i played i PnP,
he is LvL3 almost 4, HP 89, AC 27, STG 22+ dex 20+, dule weild, and he has Dragon mark of lesser something it boosts my AC and has 4 uses...hes doing pretty well, he not hard to play at all,
but i end up soloing alot....and i have been in groups to know where sercret places are! but i cant spot for ****, i have -1 spot...so i was wondering if it was a good idea to sub as a rogue so when i solo i can find hidden things, detect and disarm traps.
or should i go cleric for self healing, or barbarian for rage and damage boosts, or ranger..i mean i dont want to waste my next lvl up on a sub class and then be unhappy that i didnt pick something better!
not to mention i think doing that will lead to my fighter only getting to lvl 15 with 1 lvl rogue. or if i decide to be lvl 4 rogue and lvl 12 fighter..i dont know what to do..
becasue i dont think i can be a 16 warrior and a 16 rogue. and sub further to be a 16 something else. it would make me far to powerful...
so any suggestions would be of help.
and i am on the Therians sever or however its spelled.
my toon name is...Raganos Pyregnos..
but i have no guild yet, and the ones i have seen i dont really want to join casue of names like. "HAPPY DANCE ELFS"
and " Tik Tik Tik Tik waka waka"....casue i dont take those seriously...
i was in as i said WoW for 4 years. the guilds i went into took application or recuited me by my reputation with another guild.
their names were...Forgehammer, The Legendarys, Ritual de Mord, ect...more serious names.

A sorc or a wiz is **** near impossible to start with and expect to do any kind of soloing. I'm sure there are a few old time DDO players that would love to come along and say how easy they solo on their spellcasters, but that's them and they are probably using their play experience, twinked gear, and 32pt builds to help them out. I couldn't even finish the second quest on my first wizard. But you've played D&D before, you know that arcane casters don't really come into their own until level 5+.
I did a couple things that helped a lot on my spellcasters. I hated moving my hand to press the number keys. I inevitably end up losing where my hand is or I hit the num keys a second too late. I remapped three buttons to make them more accessible. First, I use the middle mouse button (the scroll wheel button) to map to the first hotbar slot. I put burning hands on it. Then I remapped 'Q' and 'E' since I never use them to turn. Map them to more hotbar slots. I put charm and hypnotize on those.
But the real trick to starting a caster is to avoid the direct damage spells as much as possible. Use summoned minions and charm as much as possible.

OP questions...
1. Favor isn't additive within a quest. You get favor for the highest difficulty you've run any particular quest. Variety is good. Running on elite is good. Forget drow, you'll get 400 as a matter of course leveling. Try and focus a little on House K and Coin Lord favor because of the extra bank & pack space they award. House P for the buffs and quick run trinket is handy as well.
2. I don't understand but if your talking warforged then they're similar. If not warforged then it's sorceror because of the UMD skill and high charisma, unless you multi-class rogue or something on your wizard and max UMD skill.
3. Yes
4. Cleric because of buffs, status removal and good burst healing. Low levels fighter is fine. Cleric is much easier through the mid-high levels for soloing. It doesn't have to be a battle cleric, either. Cleric is much easier to solo at low levels for new players because they're cheap to run. Easy doesn't mean for everything, though.
5. People will pay for the best. You can find the next best for usually pretty cheap.
6. You're probably posting stuff that has little value. You'll learn to spot good stuff as you play. At low levels, keep your eye on collectibles. Some are used for crafting and you can sell them for modest plat (or even pretty good plat on a few rare ones). Some easy ones you'll run across are vials of pure water, fragrant drowshoods, & silver flame hymnals. Lightning-split soarwood is quite rare and goes for pretty decent money, at least IMX.
If you're on Ghallanda, PM me your character name.

I still dont know what a good class for my fighter to sub into. i was thinking clr just for heals. or rogue so i can go everywhere in dungons on my own. or even clr for heals and rogue for spotting. but then again i dont want to take away to much from my fighter.
Also i did gain enough favor with the coin lords to get my first extra inventory bag. but when i saw BAG OF HOLDING! i was like HOLY **** i know that from PnP it a never ending inventory bag. then i look in my inventory for the never ending inventory bag..and i was sorely disapointed to see. That it was just one extra slot and not endless inventory or to whatever my emcumberence might be. i was kinda sad to see they dumbed down the the " BAG OF HOLDING" like that.
Also for the caster, i think ur right, i should use charm and summon spells, then again i might just wait for the favor of a 32 point build to start one. casue i know even though drows get that +2 becasue of that they dont get the 32 point build.
And i can spot somewhat good stuff, i farmed up 4 muckbanes, just so my clr can have a few, and i got a really sweet caster robe sitting in the bank, along with two named trinkets for both my clr and sorc. i got a nice helm i am saving. also i got a +2 set of full mithril plate. thats going to my clr.
but one thing that bugs me is the way you have to rest to regain HP's, where as other games the HP return gradually out of combat or if you have the right gear while ur in combat, but while in combat not enough to make to big a diffrence. i think that as long as ur not soloing then you can use shines but if you take solo, you will regain HP out of combat.
Also i though this game would be more sandbox, like WoW. where you traverse the contenent, ect ect. doing quests in each area. that takes you into dungons. but its more like guild wars, its instanced. where u have explorable areas, where if ur not in a party ur on your own, and same gose for quests. but u do see others in towns or outposts.
Also even in the PnP after fighting a mob of baddies you gained XP in this game, you dont get anything. you could be over run by 100 monsters slay them all and gain nothing. i dont find that to fair. Expercially considering that one quest in stormreach that you have to fight and kill 200 kobalts.
I tried to solo that one. i was Pawned in about 1 minute. then with my last 11 HP i stood behind some crates and they came at me 3 at a time every 20 seconds or so. till a caster saw me. and then cast that spell where i cant attack knocked me down to 1 HP i had no Pots... and i stood my ground with one HP for about 5 mintues. and then perished. with 100 kills...half way.
i think if i had of subed a clr with self heal, and had Pots i would have survived. also i didnt know they would come at me in droves of 30 or so. and sadly i cant find anyone to take that quest on with me in a group.
one more thing...DONT YOU CASTERS FILL LEFT OUT! i mean we have heal pots in this game but i have yet to see a pot that lets you regain SP..casue without SP your not going to live long enough to need a heals.
but i do know their is a spell that allows u to cast it on someone else to regain SP, but then again their should still be SP pots. just a thought.

I like this aspect because its adds a new element of dungeon strategy to the game. Instead of simply worrying about surviving a single fight, you have to plan ahead and pace yourself. Its different than other MMOG's but its a good thing for a game like DDO because it adds a relatively unused element of critical decision making.

This is to reward you for bypassing encounters. It gives a real benefit to stealth. Allows you to talk your way out of encounters. It also doesn't reward you for failure. I think more MMOG's should do this.

I love that quest. Bring a friend or two, even a hireling. Its a fun one to return to because it gives you a good way of seeing how well your combat prowess has progressed.

There are SP pots, but they are rare and expensive.
As for what you should multi-class into... Man, I don't know. I haven't been playing much longer than you have. I'll let the pros handle that one. :)

I still dont know what a good class for my fighter to sub into. i was thinking clr just for heals. or rogue so i can go everywhere in dungons on my own. or even clr for heals and rogue for spotting. but then again i dont want to take away to much from my fighter.
My advice to new players and multi-classing is don't unless you are copying a solid forum build to the letter. Even hardcore CO PnP guys can get thrown a curve in DDO. There are some pretty profound differences in rule application and practical application.

well i did sub upon lvl up, i subbed barbarian, becasue its a melee class that uses almost exact build. it adds a bit more veritility to my damage. without throwing me for a loop.
i choose it over other choices for one reason my spec is not at all capable of hadling any caster type rolls.
so insead of a having to divert points for Wis, Car, Int, i was where i needed to be.
Also subbing a clr would have added heals but i would be somewhat expected to play a back up back up roll as a healer and head of pack. plus manage SPs.
Subbing a rogue would have just not worked out casue my INT may be 8 but my spot was -1 or 2 and even with points getting a plus mod would have made me almost **** as a rogue and a wasted lvl up.
but with barbarian i get RAGE, faster running, and one other thing thats passive, and it adds to me. i also have a Dragon mark of Lesser that adds +2 to AC, and my own fighter spells that add additional +2 to damage AC speed ect. so even when rage wheres off and i get Fatigue i can boost my AC while raging and when its gone reboost my own STG for damage.
so i gain without losing. and it will make me all the more formidable agasit others.
but i take a loss at being Caotic Good, casue i cant weild the Lawful weapons of Flaming ect...or acid or thunder...ect ect..witch would do alot more damage to foes becasue they are all basically evil.
ONE LAST THING!!!
The Market Place or Auction House for the sell of player items..still to freaking high. lvl 4 weapons are just laughable price ranges.
so to let anyone here who want to know. when i take on weapons that are somewhat good but wont use myself.
i post for between 500-1000gold start and a 1000-2000 buyout..witch is 50-100 platinum, or 100-200 platinum. no more than that.
i am on theians sever if any are interested. my stuff is cheap casue i dont think a +1 sword or kama or whatever of Shock, frost, fire, ect... with x3 modifyer should not!!! cost 1000PP or up to 10,000PP..
i might make another post on this.

Well, looks like you are having fun with multiclassing. Enjoy your first steps on learning how to design characters.
Just make sure when you sell something on the AH that you aren't making LESS money that simply selling the item to the broker/vender.

oh i do, i go check the vendor prices for the item and if i know i can get more of the auction house i do so.
also making a character is not hard, its the one thing i can do well when it comes to melee classes becasue they are my favorite. i have never been a big caster player. and couldnt tell you a good build for one if i were stareing me in the face. let alone a multi class caster build.
one last question.
say i make a custom Clr, but i boost all his points to be that of a wizard or sorcere, then instead of playing clr i run as a sorc or wizard so i would be lvl 1 clr with 15 sub as another class.
technically i would be a sorce or wizard in plate armor and decent dex and protection for decent soloableness..if thats a word.
i never thought about it that way till just a few hours ago. so i though i would ask.
like use a pally lvl 1 for the armor, and sub the class u want.
or a fighter lvl 1 and sub 15 lvls of rogue. so wear plate armor and be a rogue.
a not so squishy caster..not sure it would work they way i would want it to though for reasons of be Over Powered in battle.
and the Whole N/A skills that take twice as much points blah blah blah. but i might see if its at all possible to come up with something that works.

you might want to check my thread for some very fun to play and easy to make builds. i scrutinize them to ensure new players can build them (28 pts, no uber gear) and is also decent builds (last thing u want is something you cant play)

yes technically you can take L1 cleric and other 15 levels as a sorc or wiz. that said, it would depend on what you want to do. if you just want to use cleric scrolls etc, then i'd advise you to splash bard for umd
technically i would be a sorce or wizard in plate armor and decent dex and protection for decent soloableness..if thats a word.
wiz/sorc in fp? not so good idea. all non cloth armors have arcane spell failure. the heavier the armor, the heavier the penalty. there are item attributes or enhancements that can reduce that penalty but in general, most non-elf/drow casters will not be able to get it low enough to get 0% failure. as a caster in the end-game, there is no margin for error. in addition, fp is heavy and can laden your caster
i never thought about it that way till just a few hours ago. so i though i would ask.

the fp will affect the rogue splash less but you deprive the rogue of one of his most useful ability - evasion. evasion does not work with medium or heavy armor and it is huge for boosting survivability. 2 rog has evasion - no damage for reflex pass. at L10 they can pick improved evasion - 50% if fail, none if pass. alot of damage can be avoided by evasion ie spells, traps
a not so squishy caster..not sure it would work they way i would want it to though for reasons of be Over Powered in battle.

some classes will want cross class skills. all my toons have maxed balance. if you are on your butt, you cant really do anything
