View Full Version : So, a few ideas for monks

In PnP, i play monks. A lot. I have played many, many variations of the monk, with almost every race. Here are a few things that would be sweet to add in for the monk class, that i think are fair and well balanced for DDO.

Unarmed damage enhancements--exactly what it says. It goes along with the current system of enhancements very well, by making something that a class can already do better by degrees, like improving the length and power of rages, etc. It doesn't have to be much, caertainly, but a few points would be very helpful in getting Dps to reasonable levels, especially combined with....

Improved Natural Attack (feat)--this feat comes standard on all of my PnP monks, as it increases the die type as if the monk were a size category higher, which is very useful over a long period of time, as the end-game monk is capable of ludicrous amounts of damage

ok, so just two ideas really, but two things that i think would be a great addition to the game.

Improved Natural Attack seems like it should be a shoe in.

Are there Monk's Belts in DDO yet?

Those are a nice, core item.

EDIT:

Oh and special attacks granted by mastery of an animal path (for example once you acquire master of Path of the Clever Monkey, you gain access to the Enhancement Strike of the Imperceptive Ape -After a ki enhanced tumble you spring forward planting both feet on your opponent's chest knocking him to the ground)

I agree 100% with the OP, Our biggest problem imo with getting monks a lil boosty to make them more DDO friendly is all the martial arts fanatics begging for hard to code fluff attacks instead of some SIMPLE solutions. Unarmed damage enhancement would make a ton of sense coming off the dwarf Axe amage and Elf rapier/ss damage. Or as a few of us have said allow our Stance eg.(water III 2d6ice + 2d6ice on crit) damage to be a constant instead of a Ki based attack that i for one never use ove the other strikes.

The DC’s for all the monk special attacks should become 10 + Monk Level + WIS mod. It works for Assassins.

- Ki Focus: Damage: Level: 1/5/10/15/20; AP Cost: 1/2/3/4/5;

Option #1: Description: Each tier of this enhancement grants the monk an additional point of damage so long as they are centered. The damage is added to the base damage and is multiplied by a crit.

Option #2: Description: Each tier of this enhancement grants the monk an additional point of damage so long as they are centered. The damage is considered Bane damage and is not multiplied by a crit.

Both options are limited by the AP cost (15 AP’s to complete the chain is expensive) And an important thing to consider with Option 2 is that the monk’s special effects / ki generation will be able to deal with foes that have a non bypassable DR.[/B]

Description: Each tier of this enhancement adds +1 to the DC of all the monk's Save based attacks.

It's not that i don't appreciate the creativity and effort that the devs put into the monks special attacks and finishing moves, i'm just not fussed to use them. I want to see options out there for those of us that want to play a monk PnP style--barefisted (well, handwrapped, i guess) fighters who dole out huge damage.

the only real gripe i have is with stunning fist (well, and that the DCs are messed up), in that you have to spend Ki to use it. I would rather have seen this implemented per Pnp or at least the same as stunning fist, either with a set number of uses based on monk level (and wis? not sure i recall...) with 1 sec global cooldown, or with the same cooldown as any of the other combat feats, and infinite uses. This annoys me because i remember how much fun my gestalt monk/rogue was to play, stunning and then auto hitting with sneak damage.

So please, devs. I know it's not top of the list, but can we at least see this looked into as an option? Heck, i'd even be happy with this stuff as part of a prestige enhancement, whatever it takes.

Maybe a decent capstone, like all attacks automatically bypass all DR, or decent weapons, or better enhancements, like restoration or buffs that weren't useless in all but 1% of the game, or...
