With dragontouched armor giving out spell pen 8 and greater spell pen 8, skiver giving out archmaji, and occassional rr archmaji rings ml 15 dropping, and in mod 9, supposedly greater potency 8 items dropping from high lvl quests, would it be alright for a tank to loot a Bracers of the Glacier they got in a chest from a VoD raid? It would benefit them while meeleeing, inflicting dmg upon the mobs that are attacking them and reducing fire dmg in the shroud, VoD, and Enter the Kobold. The 7fg can be used by any class with UMD, so I presume that the Bracers can also be used by any class looking for a fireshield (cold version) but without the plat to buy a cloak of ice and no UMD to use fireshield scrolls.

The main reason against it is that the bracers from Hound are both superior for tanking, and easier to obtain (because Hound is faster and easier than VOD).

The damage it does to your enemies is minor and unimportant, and the fire defense will hardly ever work when you need it. It'll help some against Arraetrikos or Suulomades if you're in melee at the time, but most of the other places where fire damage is a threat, it's from caster-mobs who won't trigger the bracers.

If the Bracers of Glacier had a clicky to cast Fire Shield, that'd be something else... but they don't work like that. The activation is unreliable, so you'd normally be better off with Chaosgarde (+2 AC) or Levik (+20% healing)

Your loot is your loot. However, if you decide to keep something that the vast majority of the party feels would benefit other players tremendously more than you....well you might not get that next raid acceptance/invite.

I pulled the hound SR ring about 4 times on my barbarian, and passed it to a spell point user everytime. I took the SR ring on hound run #40 instead. I could have used it, but felt if the mana users needed it more they could have it given it wasn't critical to my build.

Personally I wouldn't take it, though I've seen a pure level 16fighter take the gloves of the glacier. It was not by mistake, and the player in question wanted to vendor it. I didn't need that item, but one of the arcanes/clerics in the raid definitely did. That player does not get raid invites to any raid ever, likely across multiple guilds that were in that run at the time.

Worst case - tell the group early and often that you will take it if it drops. That way nobody can freak out on you later. If they don't ask you to leave/drop you, then they're fine with it.

Edit: As per the post above - the Hound bracers are far superior for a melee in my opinion as well.

I do agree with Angelus.

I'd say it depends if you're a ranger or Paladin where its not just the Fireshield that benefits you, but the sp can benefit as well. More Zeals/DFs (paly) or Healing (Ranger & Paladin). Then I can see it being "Logical." However, I would be inclined to throw out the opinion that if the casters (wiz/sorc/clr) in the raid need them, I would pass them off like Pyro has done with the ring. Though if your build is an AC build, then I must say...don't bother with 'em. You're not getting hit enough for the proc to matter.

My barbarian absolutely loves his (guardian tank build). Meanwhile, my one bard that a) gets hit a ton like the barb and b) could use the spell pen - has been barred from rolling on them more times than I can count. If they drop for you, and you can use them, take them. Just don't expect others to necessarily respect your decision (see other thread). If you get hit a lot, it goes off a ton, and mitigates damage in places like Arrae too. But as R2 said, if you are an AC build, it's not going to benefit you really at all.

I wouldn't use them on an ac or lawful good build. But like Samadhi said, for a barbarian they would be nice. With the belt of brute strength, that would give me the +6 str, and I can easily get a +4 insight bonus to ac from Dragontouched armor, making the additional +1 from the levikk's bonus not worth it in the grand picture. The +20% healing can also be gotten from the Dragontouched Armors. The cold shield is useful when being hit alot. I have the bracers on my main caster and when in use, the cold shield goes off quite alot, which is why I know my tanks would also love one.

I wouldnt roll on them, altho if they dropped for me I would keep them UNLESS I personally knew the caster in the party.

point is moot for me anyway, b/c I got the chance to take them in my 20th reward list

if you have a use for it, why are you here asking for validation?

Just wondering if it would be bad form to loot one on a tank. Looking to see what other tanks have done when they pulled the bracers and could have used them. I don't want to be blacklisted for looting something I could use. I'd put it up for roll if I would definitely be blacklisted by many for looting them. I do have the bracer slot as an available slot since I have a Belt of Brute Strength on my tank, and a DT leather with +20% healing amplification.
