I've seen this proposed guild on Asheron's Call as a Monarchy. :rolleyes: Nothing new here. Turbine has always been a master of balancing and rebalancing without changing the way a system works. DDO will continue to come with nerfs and power surges and nerfs to tone down the power surges.

Hopefully they actually adjust the entire game instead of increasing the power level as it's creating a huge divide that is further and further from the casual and power aspects of the gamer ecology.

So, my proposal for Khyber's awesome Thread on a Reason for the Next Equipment Nerf:

Well it was so long ago (subscription ended in 2006 - moved to DDO) that I couldn't tell you all of that.

My server was Solclaim at the end of my campaigns in Dereth... I had a maxed (at the time... 220 wasn't the max maybe 126 was? or 150) coordination based archer who could do some major damage w/ a bow [non-existant here]. I started on Thistledown however (Jaq-Ton) was first character I had, an UA fighter. I remember my first Monarch was Fafhrd (I think that's how it was spelled). Successive Monarchy's later I can't remember.

I do however think that was the best social system (still is really) ever established for an MMO. And our guild mansions rocked too. I played that game from beta till DDO came out to the chagrin of my mother and her desires for me to complete my homeowork through high school and the chagrin of the many women who wanted my lovin through college.

Witnessed many a Snowreap and Frostfell there.

Killed many an Olthoi, Viridindi and Shadow.

Cool. I didn't hang in Solclaim at all. My main server was Harvestgain under Kenshin Himura and then Dmitri's men. When Dmitri left, rather than let the monarchy and mansion fall apart, I gathered up what was left of his monarchy and restored the mansion (timed it perfectly to purchase after gathering everything) to a monarchy under which we were known as The Last Remnants of Dmitri. Oh before I left I believe I sold the mansion after a good year+ (2 years?) run and swore allegiance to Niniane, who later left w/ her monarchy to play WoW in 2005. *sighs* Sad days...

I also had a few characters on Wintersebb and was second or third place in the Official Chess Tournament on Thistledown I believe. Played from 1999 - 2003 (and still infrequently reactivate to visit for a month at a time). They just passed the 100th Publish in 2008, so kudos to them! Apparently there are still a large grouping of players but the levels are just too ridiculous -- I was mind-boggled by level 189+ characters. My friend Wildman had his tank up to 218 when I was finishing around 134 and leaving. Absolute insane the amount of grinding and experience in that game. :eek:

Reading the forums you can get to 250... they've apparently added some speed leveling mechanisms for the first 50 levels (~4 hours) + w/ buffbots and macro's casters/archers can probably level pretty quickly (I think those **** things ruined the game though and necessitated all the extra levels/xp).

It is in IMHO to date the best MMO out, graphics are no good anymore but were great when it came out. Gameplaywise it was a blast and the allegiance system the greatest social mechanism ever. It fostered care for newbs and rewarded good leaders.

No doubt I agree. Very sound and fun mechanics in that MMORPG -- great questing system & housing as well. That's interesting level 50 in less than 4 hours -- used to take us about... 10 with high-levels tagging along to debuff for speed.

And yeah, by far some of the best leadership in video gaming came out of that social system. If only DDO had a social system other than member/officer for guilds... Other than, "Of course we're going to give you the +3 tome if it drops on raid x!" there's really no reward or emphasis on loyalty & leadership -- it has to be created by the player. Add a mechanic that rewards this behaviour and some players could find themselves changing certain gaming styles (I was never cussed out in a raid in AC, but then again I mostly lead infamous Boboaerlan runs in 20 mins -- 2 raid quests, 20 mins a piece, absolute bliss).

Yes, Turbine, it is high time you GM's got off your collective butts and fixed this obvious flaw in the game. I am supposed to die. Alot. No, really, I'm supposed to be dead more than alive. I used to be synonymous with the death penalty (anyone from Aundair remember the so-called Hordo-Effect?) My toons are affectionately called *NAME*, the Party Wipe.

But for the last 3 modules the equipment and ability to fix my character via feat swaps and enhancement reworks have made me, well, competent! Before Aranticus gets here I must, in his stead, insist that this stop. Now.

So, Tolero, Tarrant, Eladrin and the gang...you have your marching orders. Nerf away. I need to be nerfed back to the Stone Age so that I may retake my rightful place as the most gimped *insert class/race here* on the server...any server...heck, in any game. Forget WoPs, forget the Minos Legens, forget all the other whining and whinging and basic upset-because-you-removed-their-cheat rants and get to work with the real deal and nerf me. Hordo.

I happen to prefer grouping with a Hordo-toon that does not crumble before the first monster that rears its ugly head.

Hordo, I don't think equipment is the issue...I think you just, FINALLY, broke the learning curve to the game. =) Though, you do seem to have a lot of badass loot. I mean, seriously, who else beside Hordoclaus gives away a WoP bow for the holidays? (Thanks again!)

Hmm...thinking about it, maybe everything DOES need to get nerf-nuked to restore the balance of the game--if Hordo is surviving Hound runs beginning to end, he may start surviving VoD runs beginning to end, and then the whole life-death-permadead (Hordo) cycle will be broken, causing all of Stormreach to spin off into the void of the Material plane!

I say, you just institute a change to the game mechanics that states that any equipment worn or used by any character whose name begins with Hord or Lukk grants an oppositie effect from its description (+5 enhancements result in a -5 to AC, attack and damage, +2d6 damage causes 2d6 points of healing to the monster, etc...). Only then, will Stormreach be saved from this imminent doom!

Besides, this thread is specifically sanctioned to address the ever-widening ripples that Hordo's non-gimpiness is causing in the game, not so much reasons to nerf other people's gear. I hear that! That is really the point of this thread. The absurdity of the Nerfites and Nonerfites is astounding to me. The passion, the ferocity, the forcefulness...sounds almost like a Mexican soap opera.

But back to the REAL deep-seated point...I am way to uber for my own good. I need to be nerfed, not by my own deeds or by my own volition, but NO I must call upon Turbine and the Devs on high to do it FOR me! For I am the all-powerful customer and they are my servile minions!

Nerf me! I want to be nerfed so bad that a level 1 toon can PWN me in PVP. Come on...do it! You know you want to! My guild needs it, heck, my server needs it to put the universe back into alignment. Hordo must be gimped and it is your responsibility as devs to do it!

Now get to work before I find a way to cook a gelatinous cube for breakfast.:D

Hordo is one that has always been uber. Unfortunately for us he is becoming uber-elite instead of his normal uber-gimped. I dont think anyone considered how many of the elite players were balanced by his gimpedness. Think of how many of us must become more gimped now. I know 2 of my original toons are gimped, but now all must become gimped to cover for Hordo's eliteness. :eek:

On a quick side note, Hordo is one of the better "hardcore" players to run with. He isn't afraid to admit when he doesn't know a part of the game and he doesn't take himself too seriously. Party wipes with Hordo make the game more interesting and add to his legend. ;) Many of the uber-elite could learn a thing or two from him.

Now back to the theme of this thread.

Hordo must constantly die in quests or else we will face more wipes to replace his death total. On a positive note, Goolan claims a high death total also. Maybe he is willing to take Hordo's death crown. If not...

I can tell you this...Goolan has several thousand deaths to make up before he can come close to my death-crown. The only one who can truly challenge me is Lainney, and she took an extended vacation. Now that she is back, however, the game balance may be broken!

When Lainney and Hordo BOTH died repeatedly...consistently...constantly, the game was in harmony with the universe. The Uberelite triumphed and the casual gamer squeaked by not knowing that their poor d20 rolls were already taken by the two aforementioned dwarves. With just Lainney there is not enough gimpiness to absorb all the poor d20 results and thus chaos ensues. This is why Hordo must be stopped at all costs. Forget Mod 9, Mod 10, Mod-whatever...the Devs should be focusing on the real game imbalance problem here...and that is me. I need to be nerfed. For the good of the game and the stability of the DDO universe, I must be nerfed.

I just did two Shroud runs, back-to-back, and died in NEITHER ONE! :eek:

On my rogue, Lukkie, I came rather close once in part 4, but didn't bite it. And on Hordo *sigh* not even a sniff of the hereafter.
