Great-axe for swing animation timing?
Maul for dex damage/stunning blow and cuz mauls just look cool.
-Both 20 (x3) weapons

Or with the chance of triggering weapon effects on glancing blows, does the falchion's
18-20 (x2) come into play as your Kensai weapon of choice?

Crit effects on the falchion: 7 crit numbers with Kensai III and improved crit slash/keen.
-Radiance, Enfeebling, Burst/Blast Effects, Smiting, slowburst, crippling
Others?

Other than Radiance and maybe enfeebling, none of these really make me want to trade out the faster great axe speed. Both weapons will get the new expanded, yet currently unknown, chance for glancing blows to push the weapons effects (have we had confirmation that all weapon effects will work with glancing blows or will this be like the handwrap fiasco?). Though I could see wounding and vorpal being the biggest non-crit attributes when you want your glancing blows to contribute.

Still going Greataxe for now.

(This is on an old old toon that doesn't qualify for TWF but is glad to see the upcoming bumps to THF).

Great-axe for swing animation timing?
Until you actually play a BAB 20 character you won't really know what the swing timing is going to be (unless you took monk or rogue levels so you stop at BAB 19).

However, on a hit-for-hit basis a falchion is the best. Not only does it trigger effects more often, but it has more straight damage too.

To see which weapon type is best on a per hit basis, compare the Critical Power. For kensai 3, the CPs are:
Club 1.10
Sword 1.20
Axe 1.25
Rapier 1.30
Pick 1.40
Khopesh 1.45

Since there is no two-hand equivalent to pick or khopesh, the rapier-equivalent Falchion has the most dangerous two-handed hits.

for 2H weapons, a dwarf with a greataxe will be the most popular.

Go 18 Fighter/2 Monk and use Qstaves :).

So I was wanting to go maul for something different from the norm great-axe I have on my others. Can a maul keep up with DPS when compared to the great-axe?

More or less.

Well ok less but the different is not very significant.

I belive they have the same swign speed animation ATM, soo the Axe has a d12 to a mauls d10 with is 1 damager per hit average, + possibel dwarven enchments, green steel goes to 3d6 axe 10.5avg maul goes to 2d8 9avg soo it loses another half point...
Soo fro a dwarf that might start to adds up 3-3.5 less per hit for other races i would not worry about it, WF would beable to get even higher chance at effects on glancing blows.
