Hi, I'm currently stuck at the connection phase of the log in screen (before you even get a chance to put in your name and password). I've been off the game for a week or two, but still have a current subscription, tried adding the ip to the hosts file like it stated in the knowledge base, tried rebooting, and tried turning off my firewall. No luck.

Anybody have any other suggestions? Would be muchly appreciated. :D

I had this happen to me a couple of times. Both times, it related to Internet Explorer.

I normally use Firefox. One day I used my computer for work and needed to set a proxy setting in IE. When I started doing normal surfing, I reverted to Firefox and went about my business. However, when I connected to DDO, I think I got the same issue you are having (does it say looking for data centers?).

DDO uses your IE internet settings, not the settings of your default browser. I recommend checking your IE settings (Uhhh, Tools->Options->Connection Settings->Lan Settings, I think... most likely want to check auto-detect).

Hope that helps. Any more details, like the message you're seeing, might help too :)

That's just it, I'm not getting an error. I get stuck on the connect phase - you know where it goes through connect, examine program data, examine game date, or whatever, like a list of 5-6 things, where the update occurs if there is one. Only, my client stays on connect, and retries every 60 seconds, to no avail heh

Will check my IE settings in a sec though, but I don't remember the last time I used it ;)

I'm getting this too since yesterday. I have been playing with no trouble (bar a day of errors after last big update), then went to log in last night and it's stuck on connect ticked but examine programs it does nothing...and stays.
I checked my admin stuff again but nothing has been altered from the day prior when it worked fine. Checked my firewall...all ok there too as always.
Any solution yet? Maybe we're not the only ones after all.

i just came back from out of town and noticed some spyware roomate got on my pc while i was gone. figured it was fine time to reinstall windows so nuke and pave. after a fresh install of ddo i copied and pasted my old dir over new one to save all the update time.
no errors during installation but when i first run ddo the launcher shows its messages, a little to fast to read but the last one is "opening main form". it starts to fade to where it would normally give me the login screen but it just hangs semi opaque. when i right click its tab to close it shows the login screen and gives an error

an error has occurred.

now ive reinstalled after uninstalling/deleting, didnt try to copy over from old dir, and im sure this error isnt from that since it does it every time since.
i have all current drivers, .net framework, firewalls/virus proggies are offvand still same error.
i started downloading a fresh ddo install when i got the error message the first time so by now, 1 windows install and 5+ ddo installs later, its finally complete. used that to install and same error.
im using 32 bit xp and have had no problems before going to michigan for a week.
thank you for any help or ideas.

Well...it's been a bit longer than a sec lol but I finally got around to checking my IE settings. Went to the LAN settings, told it to automatically detect....but that didn't help *sigh*

I'm really at a loss here. Like Warrioress, I haven't changed anything since the last time I was able to connect. There may have been an IE update since then...honestly can't remember the last time my Windows update notice popped up. I don't use IE for anything (FireFox for browsing) so I haven't paid that much attention to it, so that could be the problem, but I'm not sure where else to look heh

Sledgehammer sounds kinda good lol

I guess I could add that the launcher says:

An update error occured:
A connection attempt failed.

But that really doesn't say anything that I haven't already stated heh

Just for random giggles.. Have you power cycled your router recently?

I've had some inexplicable problems just go away for people that way....

Come to think of it...it has been a while since I've had a reason to.

However, it didn't help :(
Tried cycling the router and the modem actually. Our set up is
Wall-->Modem-->Router-->2 Computers

I appreciate the suggestion though!:)

Sounds like you need to change it to run as an administrator. I believe the instructions are in the knowledge base.

Okay, I have absolutely no idea what my default search engine has to do with connecting to DDO, but apparently it's pivotal.

For more 'random giggles' I opened up my IE page again and checked out the actual page that was displayed - looked like a default fresh install page (told you I never use IE lol). It wanted me to decide whether I wanted to keep my current default search engine or choose a new one from a list. I told it to keep the current one, saved, and now I can connect to the game.:eek:

Sorry, that was meant to be for Deno521, not the OP's problem. When ever mine gets stuck on the splash screen with the dragon and won't go to the actual login box, it's an issue with the administrator settings not being set right.

Having the same problem. Was working fine till tonight. Internet Explorer can browse uninstall and reinstalled the framework 1.1 as stated in the knowledge base. Still can't connect. And have to wait up to 30 minutes before it retries again.

any help?

Need my fix
