Hey there, I am new to DDO (played trial, liked it, bought it :D) and I have a couple of questions.
1. Do the encounters get more challenging (maybe scale with party size)? I am only level 3 but I dont have issues with solo play (even on normal/hard) and when I play with my brother we have almost no challenge unless on elite. Even then it is not common. I cant imagine how easy the game would be with 4-6 in a party.
2. Is there a primary plot/story after the newbie island? I have taken and completed some quests in Stormreach and have not seen a central story forming yet. Dont get me wrong, the quests are very well done I am just looking for a DnD type long term hook.
3. Is a lvl 3 axe really worth 750,000 gp? If so, how the heck does a level 3 get that much cash? Or where can I find items like that? Are they random drops in quests or something else entirely?
Thanks in advance for the answers. My search-foo is weak and lazy. :D

The encounters do get harder at higher levels. Some quests are easier than others. The monsters get more abilities/immunities/spells at higher levels.

There are multiple storylines in higher level quests. There are a bunch of miniseries and a few major ones. The next mod I believe will once again focus on the Devil Invasion from Shavarath. Even the standalone quests have their own little storylines.

Auction house prices are inflated. I would not buy any items at lower levels at that price. After a little time in the game you will get a better flavor of fair pricing. The trades and selling that goes on in the marketplace forums will also provide a good price reference for a specific item. Once you reach level 4 the House D weapons broker usually has a good range of weapons avaliable at slightly higher than base price markups.

3. Is a lvl 3 axe really worth 750,000 gp? If so, how the heck does a level 3 get that much cash? Or where can I find items like that? Are they random drops in quests or something else entirely? - It is to someone. People like to twink their lowbees and they have the cash to do it. For things like that axe go to the House D vendor. You'll find plenty of good weapons for lowbees.

In my experience, there are very few quests that actually get easier with more than 4 people and most are easiest solo/duo as long as you know the tricks to them (and they are physically possible with 1/2).
edit - For the record, I think this is a good thing

Now, back to House D a sec. Do I need max favor with them to purchase the weapons? Or maybe just the middle ground favor?
If so I need to start working on it now. :)
One thought that I had is are you doing level appropriate quests? I.e. you are lvl 3. Are the quests also 3? I know it is silly but it could be why some are very easy.

If so I need to start working on it now. :)There are house D vendors that are unlocked with favor but they aren't the ones you are looking for in this thread.
The ones you are looking for are in the shop notated on your minimap. Inside you will find 3 vendors. One for highlevel items (10+), one for mid level (6-8), and one for low level (1-4). These are all weapons that other players have looted and sold to vendors so it is possible that you might come in here and have it empty at times (they clear the inventory if noone enters the shop for 5 mins or something like that) but there is usually weapons in them and you will occasionally find VERY good weapons in there.

Oh wow, thats a very cool concept. Thanks for the info.
As to the quests and level appropriate; I was on the newbie island (obviously). But once I got to the city most of the quests are lvl 2 and I am lvl 3. Well was lvl 3. I hit 4 today and moved into the market place. BIG difference. :) I am having more of a challenge now and I love it!
Anyway, thanks for all the help, you all rock.
