Can anyone recommend a good Ftr/Wiz template?
I plan on using a Drow.

TIA!

I was trying to think of a good build for this as well.

In general, ftr/wiz doesn't work all that well in this game, due in part to the lack of prestige classes to make it work. To do well as a fighter, you tend to need high strength & con, and enough fighter levels to get a high base attack bonus (which gives you more attacks, therefore better DPS). To do well as a wizard you generally need high int (for spellpoints and spell save DCs) and enhancements/equipment that improve the damage your spells do. Best bet if you really want a ftr/wiz is probably a WF with 7 wiz levels and the rest fighter. That gives you access to wall of fire, stoneskin, haste and displacement, and gives you the self-repair ability of a warforged caster. You'd be focusing primarily on buffing before a fight, meleeing during the fight, and repairing yourself after the fight, while laying down firewalls where appropriate.

Its very tricky to build a fighter/wizard all right. However, the following is one that I played on the devourer server in europe for about 18 months and it works very well indeed:

First line of my bio: "I know what you're thinking, what kind of idiot multiclasses fighter with wizard?"

Character Name: Irregular Apocalypse
Class: Fighter8/Wizard8
Race: Drow
Alignment: Lawful Good
Base Attack Bonus: 12

Primary Role: Self buffing tank. With firewall.
Secondary Role: Support fighter. I stun, you steal my kill. Grrr.
Tertiary Role: Keep the party blurred, hasted and gh'd when the Wizard has wasted all his sp on fod's. Crowd Control through solid fog only.

Str 16 +4(level) +6(item) +1(ftr) +3(tome) =30

Con 14 +6(item) +2(tome) =22
Int 10 +6(item) +1(tome) =17
Wis 8 +4(buff) +3(tome) =15
Cha 10

'Self Buffed' AC:
10 Base

1 Haste
37 total (used to be 42 but at level cap theres no real difference)

'Friendly Ranger/Pally/Recitation Casting Cleric' AC:

2 Recitation
46 total

'If I ever get the items' maximum possible AC:
3 Chattering Ring
2 Chaosgarde
4 Green Steel
2 Armour Mastery
57 Max possible

Pros:
- Excellent Stunner
- Not bad dual wielding vorpals (critical accuracy 3)
- Excellent Damage mitigation - shield/stoneskin/Fire Shield/Torc but most of all - Displacement
- Totally self buffing with no need for clickies except madstone boots. I hate clickies.
- Ability to free up item slots for uber raid items at minimal cost by utilising level 1 or 2 spells such as Expeditious tretreat or Cats grace
- Firewalls (for a bit of extra dps and to draw aggro)
- Sufficient HP to tank
- Confuses PUG's (what the hell are you?)

Cons:
- Minus Four Base Attack Bonus
- Rubbish AC
- Mediocre Saves
- No intimidate
- I don't have many uber raid items to put in the slots I can free up
- Confuses PUG's (what the hell are you?)

Main questions people ask me:

Why aren't you a warforged so you can self heal?
Why aren't you? Seriously though, my sp is too low to self heal effectively and a 75% chance to successfully use reconstruct scrolls is far too unreliable for combat.

Wow, only 12 BAB and another -2 to hit from twf. Can you hit anything?
This is an issue with very high ac mobs. Of course if I'm using vorpals it doesn't matter but I do have to deal with this against high ac bosses in particular. Luckily there are several methods for doing so. The easiest is to stick on the madstone boots but thats dangerous as when raged I lose the ability to keep myself buffed, especially displacement. So that depends on healer support and timing is everything. Fighters attack boost is a short term option (for beholders for example) and swapping to a destruction weapon is nice too especially as all other melees benefit. Divine power clickies I hate as I think a 40 second buff is too short to be constantly using. Hopefully I'll eventually get the destruction mithral breastplate from the hound which will make all this easier.

Why aren't you a sorcerer?
And have to choose only one level 4 spell instead of three I can constantly swap around as needed? You're crazy. I can live without the extra sp.

How can you live with such a low sp?
621 may not seem like a lot when youre used to 2400 on your sorcerer but trust me, even without the torc its fine. With the torc? Well, despite constantly buffing myself my spell bar is often full at the end of Shroud 5.

Why is your intelligence so low?
Take that back! Oh, I see. Well I use no offensive spells and the sp bonus is marginal at level 8 so its much more economical to use the points elsewhere.

The best thing for me about this build is the vast array of combat options I have means when the **** hits the fan you'll be glad you have me around. Party gets split up in coalescence elite and you get debuffed? I'll keep you buffed and hasted and take out those pesky casters in a handful of blows. Bad luck in devils with pulling more than you could handle? I'll dimension door us back to the start and regroup. I may not be top of the kill count most of the time but your banishes/punctures/dps are being seriously enhanced by the number of stuns I get. Too many undead pulled? I usually have enough spare sp for at least 3 or 4 firewalls.

18 wiz 2 fighter with the 2nd fighter level at 20th level. That would get you gtwf or gthf fighting and 9th level wizard spells. As the other poster states fighter is not good for a deep multiclass of wizard unless you were a mostly fighter such as a 14 fighter 5 wizard 1 monk which might be o.k or mostly wizard. For the mostly fighter build you could take the shield spell and extend and with the monk level have a decent ac. Go twf and wear robes.

The 8/8 split is a nice middle ground for now, although I think I'd be more in favour of 10/6 as a split (aiming for 12/8 final perhaps).

The reverse, 18/2 also works well too, allowing you to effectively be a nearly-pure Fighter, but have access to most arcane wands (shield, expeditious retreat, detect secret doors, etc.).

It all depends how you want to work things, really. And keep in mind a lot of endgame gear have clickies that replicate arcane or divine spells (i.e. haste clickies, stoneskin clickies, etc.).

Level 5 or 6 arcane is a good stopping point, as that gets you the really good stuff such as Haste, Displacement, Heroism, and Rage.

If you take it to 8ish, you get 4th level spells, which opens up Dimension Door, Enervation, Fire Shield, Stoneskin, and Wall of Fire.

So it depends what kind of tradeoff you want and whether you envision yourself as more melee, more caster, or an equal mix of both. Also consider other races if you're interested, such as Elf (displacement fighter via dragonmarks) or Human (expeditious retreat / dimension door / teleport via dragonmarks). Those are quite nice combos as well.

Another option is to consider rolling a Warchanter Bard. You can do most things that a Fighter/Wizard (aka "gish", "bladesinger", etc.) can do, and stay mostly pure. But then you're limited to light armour.

I created a very fun warforged melee wiz. My thread is here
http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=165544
I'm 13th level (12 wiz and 1 barb) and will probably go 13wiz, rest fighter (for + to strength and Kensai 1st level).
I use divine power clickies to hit everything, but since I have 19 of them (usually cheap on AH) its simple.

Str = 27 (18 + 3 lvl + 5 item + 1 tome)
Dex = 12 (10 + 2 item)
Con = 22 (16 + 2 enh + 4 item)
Int = 24 (15 + 3 enh + 5 item + 1 tome)

Feats = power attack, toughness, mental tough, imp mental tough(bonus - extend, max, heighten)

HP = 240ish (unraged - imp false life dusk heart)
SP = 950ish

I buff with false life, stoneskin, GH, resists, prot energy, displacement, rage, jump, and of course haste.
I use divine power clickies to allow myself to actually hit things (current BAB is +7). I have a total of 19 which should be good for running between shrines.
I can cast reconstruct, and cure crit (with +40% helm for 6th & lower) so I get 230ish from recon and 60ish from rep crit (numbers might be slightly wrong).
My AC is 18ish, so I don't bother with that
I use +4 holy greatsword of maiming, vorpal falcion, +1 transmuting of right, +3 para greatsword, +1 greatclub of disruption, +3 frost greatclub of maiming, +3 wounding, usually standing in a firewall, with a smattering of glitterdust and cloudkill.
My sp are used for buffs, repairing and AOE spells (firewall, cloudkill, solid fog, glitterdust). I use wands for stuff like scorching rays as I hit for around 60dmg.
