View Full Version : DDO quarterly or annual updates on DVD?

I bought DDO as a digital download 2 years ago in Spring 06. Does Turbine offer a quarterly update service where I can order a DVD set of all the module and patch updates and have it regular mailed to me? I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee for this service along with shipping instead of waiting 10-12 hours for the game to update over my consumer ADSL connection with AT&T everytime I restore Windows XP.

Nope, DDO has nothing of the sort. Only discs available are the retail box versions from launch.

Oh man, I am so for this. They do not currently offer anything like this. The only choice you have is to install the game, launch it and walk away for a few hours or go to bed.

It really is getting (with each passing mod/patch/update/hotfix) obscene the amount of time that must be spent in updating this game (I mean on fresh installs).

Now imagine if you were a NEW player and just got home from the store with that shiny new box (if you can actually find one) and are all excited to play and expect that you can simply install it or at most spend a FEW minutes updating it..........

MAJOR BUMMER!!!!!!

Personally I can see monitor sales going up as disgruntled people put their foot through the screen. What a negative way to start the experience that is DDO. Just think, they mighht even come to the forums to kill time while waiting for the updates to load... YOU DONT WANT THAT until you get them hooked on the game first. :D

How hard would it be to offer a downloadable update? people who are in a related industry, can this really be so hard to do?????

It would be faster to download the latest installer from DDO (Mod8), and then update from that version.
