Howdy.
I want to make a character who will just hang out on snowy Korthos and help run noobs/guildies through all the quests on elite. Preferably a character with rogue skills, healing, and melee capability.
I'd probably cap it at level 3.
I was thinking something like:
Human
Str 18
Dex 12
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 12
Charisma 8
1) Rogue: SF: DD, SF: Search
2) Cleric
3) Fighter: WF: Slashing
What are your ideas for a good helper character?

Paladin. Heal wands, good damage, and I can't think of any traps you can't just walk around.

Keep in mind, once you d othe quests, you are "On a different experience" and can't help the new players.
Not well thought out by Turbine (IMO)

Just make sure to leave the dragon quest before completion so you can stay in snowy Korthos.

I don't think you can buy any heal wands on Korthos.

I'll be able to group with them unless I complete Misery's Peak, which I won't :).

this is a NEW PLAYER. Most of the things are easily explained simply by reading the "interacting" NPC's and making sure any quests are advanced (and reading the quest journal of course.)
Honestly, I found the best help to be the solo tutorial for them. Then just having them slowly try stuff out (make sure they do NOT turn off the tips and click to read all of them too....this is where many a vet makles an error as well as not reading the )(*)(*)( quest text :p)
But if you are serious still on being a safety net (really not needed as the intro is quite safe for newcomers and very easy post grotto even for what we vets sometimes call "squishies.") make sure the player has SOME form of FIRE weapon (even if spoell casting primarily.) If not, politely explain how vital it is and since almost all things bind to the character, they can't be gifted the new weapons here and might want to "restart" their character and choose one from the tutorial end reward. Now if a monk, they can wait for those amazing handwraps in the tavern quest
Also, have MULTIPLE pc's to complement theirs. remember the minimum 3 groups are blaster, melleer and supporter so have one at least from each of those groups that is most versitile. Choose any to be the "main greeter" but be ready to switch in a flash.
The idea of a mentor was when the game simply did not explain well how its system works (for all MMO's.) With the NGE, this has mostly been made moot, I can happily say. It's been a pleasure just to group up with new gamers and play. Even my advancement into permadeath when we couldn't join up due to "being on different parts" was fine due to the entry level setup they employed (and not dointg stupidly risky things.)
So no matter what you do: mentor, play or just watch and be a crossing guard for the endangered, etc, enjoy what you do!
I now do and can't WAIT to try a rogue in the new intro....assuming I ever have the time with all my characters now :)

Incorrect, you are only on a different part of the experience once you complete MISERYS PEAK!!!!

Ok, BUT Misery's Peak is a quest, and he said :
Howdy.

He then posted a little later and clarified his position.

But going from the original post (the one I replied to) in order to do ALL the quests on Elite, you need to complete Misery's Peak.
Reading Comprehension FTW
Now if he had said from the start, all but Misery's Peak on Elite, that would be a different story.

made a test character sorc (without the flaming weapon) and even then (with a swap to burning hands later) was able to solo all to elite except the cannith crystal and misery's peak. Just had to take it slow. Made sure I used crowd controlling as well as offensive spells and know when a weapon was needed instead (did as a drow so the rapier worked fine and got many crits.) And yes, the wilderness' MANY shrines helped. Just don't come into that expectation entering the outside quests for hard and elite. Oh, and no way in *(&*(&* could I solo the Arcane skelleton in elite unless you don't mind dying a few times and maybe squeaking by for often crud rewards (remember, if you don't have a resistance spell, and you run out of elec/acid pots AND have no shield or nightshield spell/clickie, the beatdown is fierce...even with a solo meleer in elite.)

Technically he said he wanted to hang out in SNOWY KORTHOS helping everyone, in fact you quoted that just a moment ago. So if someone understood what they read, they would know that he was only going to do quests that would leave him in snow Korthos.
Not that it matters all that much either way though

Exactly.
You can't do both. That was point.
If you complete ALL the quests, you will no longer be in the snowy version.
It's impossible to run all the quests to Elite, and remain in the snowy version.
The OP clarified what he meant in later posts, so it really doesn't matter at this point.

actually you can !!! you will only be in the same instance when you enter a quest together. can't see each other in the town but if you pop into a quest then you share the instance. and if you have trouble grouping up. put up a LFM, have the other person join and let them.
just a lil work around.
when you go out to the island you are in same instance . :D

They changed that with the last update Blak
We had that problem with Sam, when he made a new toon.
The LFM method didn't work :(
