The changes today to the ice dragon quest make this much more friendly and fix the main issue:
-Normal is much easier, the dragon has more hp
-There is a shrine spot before the dragon starts fighting, giants keep coming so you can't spend too much time there
-One of the ice sculptures dropped a +2 tome for a guildee when it broke (no idea if this one was a unplanned rare drop, but he was happy)

Wow, that is the first I have ever heard of a free-for-all +2 tome. :p

DANG IT (was hoping to see this kept secret longer) ... yes there is some very good drops that can come from those ice breakables. I have also seen someone pull a +2 tome from one.
eeeerrrrrrr ...... nothing to see here folks .... move along, move along.

Good, I've always been too poor and too unlucky to get one by any means other than Argo favor. :P

could get more +2 tomes outside favor?
The unluckiest puller ever?
Are they unbound?

And floors too.
Other than that though, the quest is actually enjoyable (now).

Its quite a lot more HP they packed on her too. Soloing, if I keep Aussircaex and Kiljarne in Walls of Fire the entire fight Aussircaex almost outlives Kiljarne.

off topic question re this quest
What is the deal with the chest on the other side of that floor that drops out from under you? Can you get it?

Perhaps a monk with abundant step? I think this was hinted at in press releases. /kip

That is actually the chest with the Tempest Rune, Eberron Dragonshard Essence, and Toothpick (which the dragon makes a joke about when you get near the chest). You get that chest to complete the quest.

You are very silly. Finish this quest and stand at the chest contianing toothpick. Look down. Look across hte way at the hole in the wall.
The essence chest IS the chest you attempt to access when the floor drops out.
For better effect, leave a groupmember there, recall and look at them from across the way.
There are, however, abundant steps up the ice to reach the chest.

Your guildmate should have played the lottery on the day this dropped.

SO I am getting from this that such a drop would be considered extremely rare, like the old D&D treasure Tables, rolling that 100, which moves you to the special table and then getting another 95+ which moved you to the super special drop table...where such things as +2 Tomes live....

Tried that the day I looted my W/P rapier (and again the day I flopped a royal flush in online microlimit Holdem Poker). Won nothing :(

Fireballs tend to break walls and floors if the Giants are having mental difficulties...

What's sad is how many DDO addicts right now are wondering whether they'd rather win the lottery or a W/P rapier...
Well, on second thought, how big was that lottery again?
