Hello folks,

Recently picked up a Crippling Chain shirt from the Hound Raid and was wondering exactly how the crippling effect works.

It says 'slows movement by half'. So is that just forward movement or do they actually swing half as many times as well ... sort of a DR 50% as they are only attacking half the time?

I see the effect hit in the logs but in the flurry of battle, fogs, disco balls etc, it's hard to tell exactly what effect it is having.

Was also wondering how long that lasts as I don't see any duration specified but I have seen it proc multiple times on the same mob.

And how does crippling work when the mob is already inside a solid fog? Slows them down more?

Guess I'm just trying to decide if I should keep wearing it or try for the Mith Bplate of Destruction?

Oh yeah, this is on a capped rogue.

Thanks :D

I was under the belief that Crippling on the armor functions the same way as it does on a Weapon. It's not a guard so it is applied to your melee attacks. I've not tested the Proc from the armor although I have played around with it on weapons - not usefull for my character and Strength Sapping is much much much better. Crippling only affects movement, not attacks, from what I understand. Am I mistaken?

I would rather have Command or a Weapon Block on a mithril chain shirt. Both add more mitigation then crippling through diplomacy or DR, but this is how "I" play. ;)

It's pretty easy to test. Just get a caster and run into the Vale. I beleive this does stack with Solid Fog or Acid Fog. Cast Waves of Exhaustion, Waves of Fatigue, have the mobs in a Cloud and then cripple them - it's like doing the Running Man! Strength Sapping was also stacking with both Waves although I've not played around with it for a month or two.

The shirt makes all your melee weapons crippling. It only affects movement speed. It procs on crits, no save. I believe duration is 12s.

The Crippling Chain Shirt should have been for all weapons, but since they could not get it to work properly, they back peddled and said, "Oh yeah, we made a typo, it is just for melee" even though there are accounts of developers saying it was going to get fixed. I remember when the first couple days of that mod when folks pulled that item there was a glimmer of hope that the item would be a useful one... Alas, the ugly step child of DDO, ranged combat, was slapped in the face again. Maybe DDO II will have a functioning ranged combat system with raid loot for ranged combat, equal attacks per round as melee..... oh wait, they fear ranged combat imbalance. Nevermind....
