So, I have a friend who is on a trial account and the problem is that we are both in Korthos Village, but we cannot see each others characters, or group together...anyone know what the deal is?

You aren't on the same part of the quest progression. Did one of you skip the tutorial?

Yeah. There's a pre-Korthos (pre killing the dragon) and a post-Korthos (after killing the dragon). He's in the 'pre' timeline (dark and snowy), you're in the 'post' timeline (warm and sunny). Creating a coherent series of quests like this, and a sort of advancing timeline, is kind of neat, but at a cost of situations like this, I'm not sure that's a good trade off.

Yup. That's your problem. The same thing happened to me. As far as I could find out, your choices are run solo until you get off of Korthos or reroll and make sure you both either run or skip the tutorial.
