I'm thinking of switching from my digital cable service to DSL.
I currently see latency 60.0 ms, sent 280 Bps and recv 800 Bps
How will my gameplay be affected by switching services?
(note: my download speed will be reduced by 80%, premium cable vs std DSL)

I am on DSL in Germany and cannot wait to get back to the US to switch over to digital cable.
I can't speak about DDO because have only been playing since getting to Germany but for other computer functions DSL is so inferior that I cannot even begin to describe it.
Compare pipe size. That drives nearly everything. If you expect an 80% drop in service then you have your answer already.

You should be prepared to do your research. Find out if your DSL provider uses error correction and if they wire snoop for marketing purposes, both will decrease your QoS. Pay special attention to your SLA. Best bet is to check with other locals in your area. If you own your own home it might be in your best interest to upgrade your wiring to cat6 and inspect your xconnects. Fiber over Plastic might be a better choice but only if Cogent or FoP is available in your area.
Good Luck!

It will also depend on how fast of a DSL service you get.

in the chicago area, i had ATT DSL and I would average around the 40 to 50 range. I went to Comcast(Insight) Cable and my latecy now varies from 50 to 100.
But, it all depends on where you are and the routing tables for that location and the type of service you are using.

I had cable, then Comcast bought the local provider and now the closest internet connection is 50 miles away.
I now have ATT's best DSL service.
I live in a 2-bit town, with 2-bit services, and live in a pre 60's apartment.
Best I get is low 100s, and a VERY rare 90s.
I've used both services for DDO, here's my 2 copper.
On DSL
- DPS Lag in places like the Shroud was absolutely horrible. As anybody I ran shroud with on a regular basis. I needed somebody to call out 'next portal' for me because otherwise I'd never be standing in the right place.
- Teleporting Devils are the end of you.
- Patching takes forever
- Large numbers of monsters increase latency greatly and usually result in a soulstone sighting.
On Cable
- 0 problems with DPS Lag since switching. I still run shroud a lot and never lag behind on DPS.
- Patching is noticeably faster
- Large numbers of monsters means more shake 'n bake.

I'm on DSL as that's my only option and my ping is normally in the 70's.

My 7 MBIT cable gives me 40 ms with 600 send 3000 receive.
I've never heard of DSL giving better performance than cable.
I am on dsl and my ping runs 60-80 and only time I seem to lag everyone else is gripping about it as well and for me it very seldom seems laggy. I dont go cable because the provider here cant even keep all my tv channels free from interference or being out so I dont think they can be my dsl service.
