I'm sorry, but did you say something about changing the background sound effects? I'm having a hard time concentrating at the moment because the deafening sound of lava has left me a little dizzy.

If by noticed you mean 6 voices in chat moaning in pain (almost inaudibly because the lava noise was far louder than the people, despite a 1.00 to .01 difference on the sliders) then yes I've noticed.

It's also tough to keep playing late at night when you've managed to anger your spouse cause they can hear said lava field or cauldera eminating from your headset from 2 rooms away.

were you able to shut off the noise? short of turning the volume down directly on my computer i could find no way to turn this noise down. I tried each individual slider.

It was a bit TOO loud and painful.. immersive? Perhaps. Annoying as hell? YES!

I couldn't even cast because I tossed my headphones aside as I scrambled with audio settings.. which apparently have no effect on this particular sound. And so my party kinda died a bit =)

(luckily I was invisible in stealth mode to ambush the enemies, so I eventually killed them headphone-less, and yet my ungrateful party was not appreciative of my effort! :))

The lava is ear splitting, I had to remove my ear phones just to be able to play. Either fix it, or give us the option to turn down this effect.

There are a number of sounds in the game that play way louder than other comparable sounds. A good example is that spike trap in the west wing of necro.

When they made the mail box chime...

and then made it chime LOUDER...

all to annoy plat spammers into leaving the box, what makes you think they'll get around to fixing something that also annoys players who really can NOT turn their volume off?

*grumbles about the sound effects that are way to freaking loud, kind of like lighting traps*

Warning! This game may cause loss of hearing if you wear headphones.

if you haven't guessed, heck yes lower the freaking thing.

I've noticed that it's relatively loud as well. I tend to keep all my volume sliders at around .15 or .2 regardless, so I can't really imagine what it would be like at 1.00

There is a Mod coming up some day in the 'near' future. We can only hope this issue will be addressed at that time.

Retsam
01-25-2009, 06:27 PM
uh.. quick fix for people until they fix it

in the audio tab, where it says "hardware or software" or so something like that.. just set it to software gets rid of almost all those issues from what ive noticed

in the setings .ini for the game its under..

SoundFeatures=Hardware

just change that to software (or change it in game via the UI)

vainangel
01-25-2009, 06:33 PM
I think it has more to do with Normalization of the audio.
Some tracks were obviously created after others in different batches.
Simple fix is to norm all the audio and have us update it in the next mod.

Well Ok...not so simple, but better than messing with the code.

Exactly. Turbine, don't forget that some of us [most?] play alot in stealth mode.

I've actually set my alarm for 2am to get up and play without drawing wifey aggro.

But seriously, couldn't even hear voice chat [headphones] over the lava [speakers]

Although I've never experienced the loud lava (because none of my characters has ever been to any of the places it's claimed to happen), I find a lot of the sound effects to be too loud. I disable DM narration and music entirely, and set the sound effects and UI sound volumes fairly low.

You guys approached this all wrong. All you had to do is say that the loud lava noise has a glitch which lets you use an exploit. That way the servers would have gone down immediately and the sound fixed within minutes.

Ran POP over the weekend - there's no problem getting someone to stand outside the lava room instead of doing the fight inside. And you have to run about 20 feet away so you can hear again and stop the bleeding from your ears.

Lava sounds are just nuts.. I have all my volumes (dm, sound effects, etc) turned to 0.01 except voice which is at 1.00 and Lava is still painfully loud. I now take my headset off when going through a lava area.

I went for the last month with all sound in the game turned to 0 (except for voice) because I got so annoyed with the sound volume in general (and no, I can't run sound effects on external speakers as it would wake other people up).

Possibly I am doing something wrong with my settings as I haven't spent a lot of time fussing with it to try and get it more balanced (but it seems to be a recurrent problem with many people and it shouldn't have to be difficult). If you have voice set to 100 times that of all other sounds and its still hard to hear people, then something is wrong.

I haven't seen a dev comment concerning any of these sound issues.. if someone can post a link to one I would appreciate it.

I use a headset exculsively. (Did not even get speakers for my new computer.)

I have voice at 1.00 and everything else at 0.10.

The fire room and lava are too loud. If you want immersion or to make the sound so loud that it blocks other noises for 'effect' do it a different way please.

For example, you could raise the volume slightly, but lower all the other volumes some to make it harder to hear anything besides the lava without making us through our headsets off.

Thanks. :D

I run with all of my volumes (except voice) at .01 and lava is way too loud. I'd like to see Turbine acknowledge this BUG and let us know if they plan to fix it or not. For those of us who run with headphones this is unacceptable. Perhaps it's time to file a lawsuit with results from a hearing test to get some attention to this. This isn't just some cheesy graphics bug.

Ok, let's not get silly now. The lava noise is ridiculous and should be fixed, but statements like the above are more likely to get these threads ignored than they are to encourage a response. Let's not drown out an otherwise totally valid complaint thread with this type of stuff...

the not hearing party chat i dont really care about. its a minor annoyance at worst, and i could deal with it as flavor. te reason why we cant hear party chat is a whole different problem. excruciatingly loud noise all of a sudden sucks un-washed hairy crusty donkey balls, esp if you are playing on a headset and forget to turn the volume 110% off.

Make lava MUCH quieter, and while your at it electric traps are disproportionally loud as well.

I mean for most of us to hear voice chat NORMALY we need to have all sounds effects a.01 and voice volume maxed, seriously fix the sound turbine.

I think that all quests with lava in them need to now come with a warning attached...

........http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn12/EnPsyane/ear.jpg

Plaster that warning right under the glowing swirl on the entry door to the quest.

And I'm not just saying that because I and just about every other person with ears who play the game think that the lava is too loud - no, I'm thinking about legal protection for you, Turbine.

From the OSHA Audiology recomendations:
........http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn12/EnPsyane/ear-osha.jpg

Now, I'm not sure if anyone has actually checked the decibel level of the Lava in this game, but I'm pretty sure it would exceed recommended safe limits. If whomever your audio person is is too lazy/incompetent/over-worked (laugh)/ignorant to perform the needed changes themselves - perhaps you can toss the warning sign above to one of your graphics guys and see what they can do about it.

You have the time with the newest Mod 9 delay to do something about it. So do it already.
