Tolero,

I played M:tG for quite some time, and Wizards had a program for mentoring other people to get them into the game.

They sent me a package with information, starter packs, t-shirts, etc, and I went to the local gaming stores and brought people into the game.

Can we do something along these lines with DDO? It should be fairly inexpensive, and I personally would LOVE to recieve a DDO mentoring package that included:

Flyers (that I can post in my local gaming shops), perhaps with my server referenced.
T-shirt (at least 1 for me to wear when I go pimping the game at the shops.
15-Day passes that can be handed out to new players.
Anything else you can think of.

When resources are limited, use what you have - the players.

I for one, and surely many others would gladly step out a couple nights per month to sway people to at least try DDO.

The local aspect is good as well, because we will make friends (that we can actually hang out with), have LAN parties, and hook people into the game much easier.

Something to think about, anyway.

Actually, I like this. Not sure it would be feasable, but the idea itself has merit.

And put me on the list, too. I want a Pimpin' DDO shirt!

I would be willing to do this as well. I have done it with a couple other companies in the PnP world. Would love to see it work in the MMO arena.

Good idea, however they REALLY need to get the trial account problems fixed, for good, before attempting to pull any more players in. Im sure they've already lost many accounts that may have become paid customers due to this, judging by the complaints recieved by those players, and the lack of information (we'll get them fixed "soon"?) and support they have recieved.

If you work for Best Buy they'll hook you up with the appropriate car. :D

But seriously, I like DfC's thinking. I could pimp these packages around -- I'm very influential with the right packages. Send me some! I'll get them buzzed on DDO faster than a shot of vodka and juice.

on a side note... those lands rock and are still in WAY high demand:-)

on a side note... why not send a bunch of trial codes to comic book and game stores? there's a card (MTG) store by me that would put anythign I tell them to on their counter. even ****. and trial coupons are better than **** right?

I wish they were able to incorporate a CCGish into DDO as a distraction (along with sitting in chairs, etc in the pubs) where you can sit down and put your skills up against another guy at the table while waiting for a group.

For instance, Three Dragon Ante would be a good translation to start. Also a game of dice would be nice (no cards).

And as a final masterpiece, work out a deal with the creators of Munchkin and allow us to collect Munchkin cards as new loots and utilize custom decks later (Deck of Many Things for your Munchkin cards, anyone? ie 1 slot to hold them all & organize your deck).

These new mini-games (especially a collectible one) could be utilized to really draw in Gamers that want to play their CCG at times while in a static mmorpg. Included with the Free Trial could be something like five randomly unique rares, 10 uncommons and a full starter deck (bound) to the trial account. Just another way that DDO might eventually advertise. Play DDO & take a break to play Munchkin? Heck yes! Or even M:TG although it's not in the spirit of Dungeons & Dragons as much as Munchkin.

If there were concerns that people would request the package just to get the stuff, and never make any honest efforts to recruit, then you could set qualifying conditions (ie, must have 5 referrals, or something along those lines).

Oh Tolero!!! I know you're there.

Worse case you could make your own t-shirt, flyers etc and try it at gaming shops, malls, etc. and give them the link to the free trial...if your that dedicated...

p.s. nice idea btw

I definitely want to give out SWAG and recruit.

As can be seen in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3v8BMNdDvo), I've got nothing better to do. ;)

I have 3 area game shops I would hit up. And yes a nice looking medium duty flyer, with a server/player hit would be nice.

You all may want to check your local shops for their rules. I know the Gamestop near me wont allow solliciters of any type in their stores. Even people promoting games. That has to be arranged through their corporate office first then the stor employees get their kickbacks for putting up with you hassling their customers.

I love the Idea though and would do it myself had I had the appropriate lead time to establish hotzones.

Gamestop? no, no, no. I'm talking about the little hole-in-the wall gaming shops that sell M:tG, D&D, Warhammer, etc.. They have gaming nights, sealed deck tournaments on the weekends, etc. We have lots of those around here, and they are usually wide-open to customer ideas for organizing and introducing new games.

I would do this at my local gaming shop.

I would even be willing to pay for the T-shirt if that's what it takes to qualify.

Ah cool, we have a few places like that. More like comic book stores and the like that sell PnP gaming supplies.

I am still very interested in hearing whether or not something like this is feasible for Turbine.

It seems that the playerbase would be interested in helping out, and I think the 'Pimp Package' would be a wise investment for Turbine to motivate us to do so, at the same time giving us some tools to help the cause.

As I understand it, it is not feasible for Turbine to do. Atari is in charge of marketing, aren't they? It is they you should be petitioning if I understand correctly. However, Tolero may have their ear, I don't know.

Don't they have a forum somewhere that we can register for and pester them about this?

How about something like:

I didn't consider a 'recruiting kit' to be advertising so much, but perhaps you are correct.

To me it seemed like something 2 secretaries could have put together in an afternoon at Kinko's. Throw in some trial cards, and good to go.

Perhaps there is red-tape that I do not understand in this situation.

I would be all over a CCG in DDO. That was the most fun part of Final Fantasy 9. :-) I played that card game for more hours than I played plot.

Hey Buddy, I think that getting involved is a great idea. But like in other threads started here on the forums today, it doesn't cost anyone any money to market, but can ultimately be more rewarding. Viral email and blogging campaigns can be far more successful than throwing money at the streets, especially in an online gaming environment like this (YouTube, Google, MySpace, Napster, etc, etc).

Retail stores are closing faster than their corporate offices can keep up, and 100 year old Newspapers are shutting their doors due to waning advertisments.

I think your heart's in the right place, but maybe if you just start with getting your guild to visit this thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=164575), it would do more for us than spending valuable resources on tshirts and bumperstickers.

Not that you can't just purchase some Turbine swag and wear/display it...

It's one thing to provide good word-of-mouth advertising for your favorite product/service, it's an entirely different thing to actually go out and hawk the game like Davey is suggesting. Turbine, this thread should tell you something... arguably something you should have already known long ago.

I refuse to do the job I am already paying to have done.

Nothing to see in this post, move along.

This thread is not the answer to all problems, of course.

It's underlying purpose was to show Turbine that the users are willing to do their part to help out with the game and the battle of bringing in new players.

I saw the other thread and did what it asked, then bumped this one as a display to the 'suits' at Turbine that we, as players, are dying for avenues in which we can do more to help out.

thanks for the insight as always Gunga.

I love this idea, I'd do it for Free, heck I'd almost be willing to work for Turbine for free.

The only problem I see here is from the other companies involved with DDO getting involved and preventing this kind of outreach from taking off. It has happened in the past with other avenues for grass roots marketing strategies for DDO.
