I ran Rainbow for the first time since Mod 8 last night. I had only run it once before and did it zerg style with the gamma turned up like everyone else. It was a fun quest. Not great, but fun.

Last night, with no help from gamma adjustments, the quest went from good to great. If you were going to make a movie of a dungeon crawl, you could use our quest last night as your inspiration.

Zerg? Forget it. We huddled together in a tight group around the torch carrier and moved slowly through each section. Sure, some of us were relative newbies but there were 3 people who had run it many times and they still wouldn't run far from the light.

In one section, a party member missed a jump and ended up in a pit. Our torch carrier had to drop into the pit so the guy had enough light to find the path out. VERY cool.

Because I'm new to DDO, I get very few opportunities to run quests without a tour guide. The changes to Rainbow in the Dark made it feel like a dungeon crawl should feel. Great stuff, Turbine.

Having not stepped into the Vale since the new mod came out, let alone do any Vale quests, I have one question: does the minimap still work in Rainbow?

Won't keep you from falling in pits, but can help if you have no other navigation and need to catch up with a party halfway down a hallway.

It definitely still works. I'll admit that there were a few times when I was blindly navigating using just the map if I got behind the torch carrier. I would equate it to feeling my way along the walls :)

The times when you REALLY need the torch are when you're working your way up the ledges.
