I took a 3 month hiatus from this game and only returned yesterday. I didn't know anything about a new mod so it was just co-incidence that I chose yesterday to return.
After downloading the updates, I logged into a new server, Thelanis, so that I could start fresh and leave my old geared up toons behind. I wanted to remember what it was like when I didn't have everything I could need/want.
After logging in I was shocked that the character selection screen was different, and very much cooler. Then in character creation the process was made simpler and much more along the lines of something like NWN, in that you can choose ready made character paths. Great work.
After creating my new cleric, I log in to find myself in tattered robes and without a weapon on some strange island. I must say, I myself felt much like my character in game, without a clue as to what had happened.
After completing the first basic quests and moving on to Korthos Village, I quickly came to see that the dev's had re-modeled the initial quests and made them much, much cooler. The story beats the hell out of good-blades, and you actually feel like you have accomplished something when you defeat Jacoby Drexelhand.
I solo'd the initial content, including the explorer area and the redemption quest on normal. I just want to applaud the epic feeling of the quests. I near soiled myself when I first ran into that room with the dragon, and thought how am I gonna take on a mind flayer!? And when the Ice Flenser came at me, that was just cool.
Overall, I just want to thank the dev's for putting a much grander feel to the first adventures people will take in DDO. It leaves a much better feeling and certainly excites me enough to stick around.
