Editing your host file - walk through!

We are aware that some players are currently experiencing issues with their computers being able to connect to DDO. Please follow the steps outlined below to temporarily work around these issues:

1. Please open the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\et c
2. Right-click on the file named "Hosts" and choose "Open"
3. When asked "Choose which program to open this file with:" look in the list and select "Notepad" and click OK
4. The file will open. DO NOT EDIT THE EXISTING TEXT.
5. Add the following line to the bottom of the text: "206.16.13.87 gls.ddo.com" (no quotes)
6. Please refer to the example below to confirm this is how your Hosts file text now appears:

8. Exit the file by clicking the X button in the upper right corner and choose Yes when asked to save changes.
9. If you still experience connectivity issues after performing these steps, reboot the PC and try again please.

re open the file. Make certain that the line breaks are still there.
Aka it looks like what T posted above, and not just one freaking huge continuous line. If it is one line, start hitting enter at the appropriate spots.

Windows Notepad loves to mess up carrage returns at times. (it is the whole Windows/Unix bit.)

Ok I did this and Uninstalled and reinstalled DDO and still Nothing!!! I reinstall it and still get like a runtime error when clicking the dndsetup icon on my desktop And I Try to get into the game and the da## thing wont connect!!!!!!!! *** is going on!!! It was working fine for me yesterday!!!!!

Before editing my HOST file I would ping 206.16.13.87 to ensure I can see the DDO servers (no point if you can't).

After I had edited the HOST file I would ping gls.ddo.com to ensure that the HOST was successfully resolved.

Yep I just lost connection while grouped in GH on Argo. Locked up my PC nicely, now I can't get back on, get to loading screen and it says Searching for log on server, then gives me a failed connection error.

Do I have to do what Tolero posted above to fix this??
