View Full Version : Elemental change gone a lil' too far?

Ran VoN 4 with a PUG earlier. Had a fairly easy time with the quest as a whole. Only person to die was a newish character, and he got womped pretty hard by the Master Control Unit, so not entirely unexpected. Things were going smoothly until we got to the 2 fire elementals that spawn near the bridge to the final room and the end of the quest...

Had a 6 person group composed of a barbarian, paladin, 2 ranger mixes, a cleric, and a batman build, everyone lvl 7-10, with fire resist and some fire protection still up wipe on the 2 elementals. Couldn't even get one of them below half HP before we died. Batman was the last standing and he made a run for Haywire, only to be gunned down by the ellies while wanding himself.

I know that later in the game, elementals were somewhat laughable in how dangerous they were vs. other monsters, but this seems a bit rough.

I for one was hitting them with a +1 acid longbow of greater elemental bane, with manyshot on and rogue haste boost I. No evasion for me yet, but I was rolling well on my saves (two 20s in there).

Now that I think about it, the elementals at the end of VoN 3 were almost more difficult than the Marute, save that he had more HP. Did a run through 2 nights ago, and had the half of the group blocking up the doorway die almost instantly when they rose up.

A couple of the members maybe, but not the whole group. I solo'ed the right side while the other ranger solo'ed the left. No problems there. Got the boss room cleared with little incident. Stopped to take care of all the mithral defenders in the last hall before we got to the bridge room, again, no problemo. But 2 elementals wiped us, and we had resists and protection up vs. their attacks. Not sure anyone had evasion, but that wasn't ever an issue before.

I don't mind them getting a little more difficult, but this made me feel like, if you don't have evasion, you're screwed when dealing with fire eles.

yea u have evasion... he means that they scaled the elementals too high... especially for lower lever groups... although I do like that they aren't just a push over sometimes I do agree that without evasion it can be rough for groups including endgame and lowbies.
