Not pleased with the idea that upgrades to armor are random----that is all

shroud: random ingredients -> static results
DT armors: static runes -> random results
Pretty much the same, but consider this:
What is more frustating, that you dont get your last friggin' large scale and can't do anything with your item,
or that you may not get the results you want but at least can be sure that at the end of the quest you will get something special.

Random is fun! We can use character planners and Greensteel planners when we want to plan. This adds an element of excitement - and you can always STOP crafting that tier when you get something you like! If not - go run some more. The quests are fun anyway.

Actually, not pretty much the same. In an important aspect. In regards to the shroud, you know which random ingredients you need to achieve the result you want. You can get those ingredients through trades/AH. You grind to achieve a specific result.
But for the armor, you get the same rune every time, and a random result every time. You can grind all day long, but at the end of the day, all you can do is hope that you get lucky and achieve your desired result.

I really dontmind the Random aspect that much..... WHat I do mind is the Collosal Grind it requires to maybe get something useful.
290 Draconic runes are required tomake a fully upgrades set of armor...
TO change a tier, you need to regrind 40, 80, or 120 Runes.... For a new Mystery Effect.....
The amount of runes needed for each tier should be halfed at least.....

Not only is there static runes, you can grind to buy them as well providing something to do till January when next mod comes out. What are you in a big rush for, atleast while you trying to get that last tier, you can help others get their other tiers by swapping runes in chest.
you get 50 draconic runes each time you finish the 4th quest, in 3 days just running and doing new mod stuff I have gotten over a hundred draconic runes, and those dex build with no interest in dragon armor will give you runes as well, there either wearing breastplate of destruction or icy raiments anywho. Its not all doom and gloom.

Or, you could rerun the 4 quests, and get 2 (maybe 3, if you do monestary right) eldritch, 1 tempest and 1 sovreign rune plus 50 draconics to spend on whicheverone you wanted.
hum, which is faster?

It seems to me that it is unrealistic to expect that there could ever be enough content in any game so that people could continually move forward and experience new content on a regular basis (if they are a player who logs in frequently and plays for long hours).
There HAS to be SOME grind - or else you would achieve end-game status and have to wait months for new content.
Of course it would be nice if the DDO world was as expansive and unending as any 'real' world but the amount of resources it would take for a software company to accomplish this is probably not going to happen.
Grinding can be rough sometimes. The social atmosphere alleviates a lot of the roughness for me personally. I like most of the people I run into on this game. Of course my guildie friends make it most fun as is true for most people probably.
I really am not a fanboy here - except that the simple fact from my perspective is that I have been playing a single video game for 2+ years now, and still having an awful lot of fun.
Given the amount of time I spend playing, that fact amazes me.

Grind is not my problem. Anyone that knows me in game knows I don't mind to grind.
My problem is I like my grind to have an objective. To have something planned out and achieve that through the grind.
I don't like the idea of grinding for a while and at the end of it, still having to hope that I get lucky, for 3 different tiers.

I can respect that Mhykke - it is a personal preference probably. I don't mind the randomness and it seems to stir up the planning from my perspective. Problem is that I don't know how they could achieve both :)
Ah well.

Have you even ran the new high lvl stuff yet? Or just read/listened to what others have said? In case you haven't (which from the looks of your post you don't really understand what is going on)
You go through the three new explorer area's to get 3 gems (pick up draconic runes along the way) then go back to GH, desert, and orchard to get the other 3 and now you are flagged for the 4th explorer. Next you need to get 3 essenses, one from each of the new quests. In these new quests you get eldrich rune from kobald and scorpian and tempest rune from prey. Once you get all three essenses you WILL have atleast 2 eldrich runes and 1 tempest rune and will be flagged for sorjeck. If you beat Sorjeck in the optional fight you will get a sov rune and for end reward you will be given 50 draconic runes and the ability to trade 50 draconic runes for any type of armor and then use the 2 eldrich rune, 1 tempest rune and (most likely) 1 sov rune on your armor ... you don't have to grind for that many draconic runes and will be faster and easier to grind out the quests for the runes instead of the draconic runes to trade them in for the other runes.

Ummm, no, it isn't about "luck" with ingredients. There's 6 ingredients. They can drop twice each shroud for you. You can buy them on the AH. You can trade for them.
Compare that with getting lucky for 1st tier effect, then 2nd tier effect, than 3rd tier effect on armor, even if you trade for one in a chest.
Waaa this.

Last night, I was lucky to get a really cool robe for my sorc through these random effects. I was crossing my fingers everytime I put the items in the altar: I was really hoping it wouldnt give me something useless for an arcane, like empowered healing or some other nonsense. But thats just me, I lucked out on that character.
So I move on to the next one, and spent 3 eldritch runes to switch out fearsome on my rangers dragontouched robe. Oh joy the fearsome effect kept appearing every single time. Sucks to get crappy rolls dont it.
My point is: The randomness in the so called armor crafting system will, in the long run, generate A LOT of grief amongst players. The power gamers will grind away until the effects they desired are obtained, but as usual its the casual gamer that gets the short end of the stick.

It's a little different.
Known results tend to be less frustrating than random results.
See all Titan Raid loot threads for further info.

Its much more like grinding for 20th completions in the other raids. I thought it was a decent way to mimic raid loot, without raid timers and things.

Looks like my rogue might be going for a Dragon Vestment. She had no luck on the Raiment over 20 runs this weekend :(

Except you can do them all at once
To be honest while I see this gripe Im not sure it will be that bad - I have burnt a lot of runes so far and don't have any of the specific modifiers I want, but the reality is that I'm quickly reaching the point where statistics would have suggested it'd have happened by now - I've rolled +6 to 3 different stats (just not ones I can put on my armor) and have started repeating effects on tier 1 entirely, just haven't quite rolled that one .. there's just not so many effects on each level that it'll be THAT hard, especially considering how easy it is to get them and, eventually, once even half your friends have something partially done, I mean..
I have a guildie who has his tier 1 done, so every time we run monestayr or kobold he gives me his runes, won't be long before I can do the same, etc
Once this system is in place and someone starts a new item, it is pretty realistic to imagine them going on a flagging run with friends/guildies and leaving the monestary with 12 eldritch runes to go roll it up.
Repeat that one or two times and you're ognna get your modifier.

Run the series just one time and you have everythng you need for a new set of armor and tier three upgrade. Compare that to getting shroud ready, grinding for green steel ingredients, grinding for small, medium, large ingredients and power shards.
I built a Sundering Ooze Guard item in a single day that would have taken weeks in the Shroud. Personally I think the randomness is a lot of fun and a refreshing change froim the Shroud type of crafting.
